Why do so many people hate G3?

We're talking about g3? Oh man.

First, Gen 3.5 is hard to get invested in and insults the intelligence of all people.

Second, the design, animation, and the stories are just downright sub-par for something on TV. I think Gen 4 is so good because of the reaction of how poorly Gen 3.5 did.

I loved My Little Pony when I was a kid, even though I enjoyed the toys (the G3 ones) more than the cartoon. I watched My Little Pony tales sometimes, but didn't watch G3 a lot.

I do, however, remember "A Charming Birthday" and, as bad as it sounds, I enjoyed it. But I was just a kid after all, and found it was fun and heart-warming.

Now? Well, since My Little Pony has gotten popular again, I started watching FiM and saw a lot of criticism on G3. I didn't know what was wrong with it at first, but when I compared it G4, I started to understand why.

Unlike the G4 ponies, G3 ponies were overly girly, had bland one-dimensional personalities (other than being as sweet as sugar to each other) and didn't have great story lines compared to G4. I'm so glad Rainbow Dash was given a huge character make over, because now she's a fun, energetic pony who enjoys adventure. She's a lot better than the G3 pony, who constantly had to say "Rainbows darling, rainbows!" in nearly every sentence she spoke. Sure, I may not have watched a lot of G3, but I re-watched "A Charming Birthday" (Well, tried to, it was hard to tolerate it, especially with the constant "yes, yes, yes!") and a few clips from a few others. Needless to say, it was boring, predictable and like I said, uninteresting overly girly characters. Oh, the horrors of the past...

So, other than the toys (Come on, the G3 toys were at least nice. Kind of wish I hadn't given them away now) and the designs (The colours aren't great but the way they look isn't that bad), G3 is pretty bad, and god knows why I liked "A Charming Birthday" so much back then (I didn't even get much nostalgia from it). I guess I'm just going to have to come to this tragic conclusion that I clearly didn't have much of a brain back then.

Anyway, those are my reasons for disliking G3, which I'm sure a lot will agree with. I only vaguely remember seeing G3.5 when I was younger, but never watched it. But just looking at it gives me a headache, so I'm not gonna torture myself.

Sorry if I made this too long ^^;

please don't be mad im only curious but why does so many people hate g3? i mean i get why some don't like it coz it is super girly & not very big on story but why hate it? i mean on a lot of youtube videos theres a lot of not so nice comments so mm why

Well there's yer problem, you're looking at YouTube comments. Saying there are hateful YouTube comments on a video (any video) is like saying "the sky is blue".

So...yeah. I wouldn't use that as a metric for how many people (whose opinion actually matters) actively hate G3.

Because people like to hate things that are different. They can't accept that their MLP was not the true MLP, but the others were.

They can't accept that FiM ripped off basically the others generations aside from things from other franchises and movies.

They can't get over the fact that G1 and G2 were even more mature than G4 was, who is, ridiculously clichéd and generic, even for its time.

They grabbed the name of Rainbow Dash and put an stereotypical personality to her. Aside from being inspired by G1's Firefly, who was Lauren Faust's favourite G1 pony. Mine too.

I call BS on this one. "Not the true MLP"? That phrase doesn't mean anything and is just as inflammatory as people saying that anything pre-G4 is trash.

Watching through the G3 specials up to the live-action stage one, I'll say it wasn't the *best* series of cartoons I have ever watched, but I will never understand the hate for it. And for what may have been less entertaining to me, I can chalk up to as me having watched it as a 25 year old.

Some of the specials are better than others, too! The Minty Christmas special was particularly good. I really enjoyed it, like I would any FiM episode.

Just imagine if the studio decided to make the G4 Mane Six with their old G3 coloring...  :wau:

Well, of course. You can't always expect their coloring to transfer over really well to such a drastically different style.

For the record, I quite like that Rarity, Fluttershy, and Rainbow Dash is quite beautiful with the lighter pastel rainbow... Although I'm not sure if that's how G3 Rainbow Dash would necessarily look in G4 style.

I was doing what they're doing with the previous gens.

Yeah, well it sounds dumb and immature when they do it too.

Personally, while I don't like G2/G3 (I actually do like G1) I don't care nearly enough to "hate" them.

I don't nessesarily 'hate' it. A lot of it I don't like, but some of the series I do. One of my favorite ponies- Star Catcher- came from g3. And Toola Roola. And the g3 opening is the catchiest and most likeable out of all the MLP openings, I think.

Very true. G3 had the best intro, indeed. ^^

Who knows? Maybe they don't like it because "Rainbow Dash always dresses in style" XD

3.5 was for preschoolers and G3 was for younger fans 5 to 10ish I do understand that just because it's a show for little kids does not mean nothing however people need to understand...it just is not your thing kids have liked it though the years and I respect that so I agree the writing was sloppy but I guess if some liked it it's fine...

Finally somepony who admits that G3 is bad despite having nostalgia for it, folks it's fine to have nostalgia for something despite it being bad, you don't have to defend your nostalgia with the oh so original line "it's for kids".

Yeah, I agree with you. Pinkie Pie, Applejack, and Twilight don't look too good to me, though. And as for Spike, I wouldn't have minded too much if they had kept the old coloring with his new design.

People don't like G3 because it is viewed as extremely dumbed/watered down and as having quite a few of the negative stereotypes associated with "girls" shows such as the dumbing down and bland Mary Sue like characters. What also dosen't help is that perception is what most people think of when they think of My Little Pony in general so a lot of bronies get extra defensive about it because of that, almost like they have to sort of "prove" that G4 is different which it is but it dosen't really accomplish anything. I tried G3 I really did but it is definitely not for me, with that said though I just don't see the point of going out of your way to hate on it because all it does is add fuel to the fire of trolls, we are now in G4 and there are actually more bronies that like G3 than I actually thought there was and I am not one to start fights for no good reason.

I never hate it. In fact, it is my favourite generation. I think most people hate it because it is too girly and boring. Well for one thing, G3 is for girls. MLP is for girls. Secondly, it is for young girls. I watched it when I was 14 and I enjoyed it. Now I am 15 and I still enjoy it.

To all G3 haters, you don't have to go bashing at G3 even if you hate it so much. I am at least kind enough to not go bashing at G4 because to me, it is the worst Generation ever!

I love G1, G1.5, and G4. I just can't get into G3 though. I love the theme song, and the toys are great, but the actual episodes bore me.

For those of you who think G1.5 is boring, I used to be like you. It's not as boring as it sounds. In fact, Patch sees an actual ghost on the first episode. Then, in a later episode, she sees an alicorn and a few pegasi from the future. No fantasy elements my flank! (Patch is like Rainbow Dash with some elements of Pinkie Pie.) Though the fantasy elements are very far and in between. Ponies in Paradise is a good episode in my opinion. I don't recommend Roll Around the Clock though. I mean great moral about being yourself, but that's the reason I hated G1.5 in the first place.

G3, it was boring and nothing to it. Maybe A Very Minty Christmas is a great episode. I haven't seen that one. The episodes I watched were boring.

I'm not like many brony haters though. I don't go out of my way to harass those who do like G3 and G3.5. I may not like it myself, but it doesn't mean no one else can.

Well, I don't like G3.5 at all. There is nothing redeeming about it, and it's not something I would be willing to share with my kids (if I ever have any).

As for G3...I really don't think it's that bad, and I am not speaking from nostalgia as I never watched it back in the day. It's not that good, but I enjoyed it well enough when I saw it a few weeks back.

Well for one thing, G3 is for girls. MLP is for girls. Secondly, it is for young girls.

You completely killed your whole point. MLP isn't supposed to be confided to one demographic, because it wasn't this way at all. When Bonnie Zacherle founded this franchise, it was for all-ages and unisex, even the toyline. This is a very bold vision, even back in the late-seventies/early-eighties. MLP was never supposed to be "for girls," but for everyone. Friendship Is Magic revived those roots that Hasbro/MLP long abandoned starting with Tales.

Being "for girls/boys/kids" doesn't excuse this generation from being poor. The stories relied on plenty of major logic lapses and often contained too much padding. The characters are G3's biggest flaw: Each and every one of them was a stereotype, stupid for the sake of the plot, or both. Any product worth the audience's time should never pander to any demographic. By presenting feminine stereotypes and acting like they can't handle a serious conflict, G3 panders to young girls.

I am at least kind enough to not go bashing at G4 because to me, it is the worst Generation ever!

Wrong. G4, specifically the show, is objectively good and definitely the best generation. Sure, G1 was okay, but it has the decency to respect its adult demographics. G4 doesn't have a clean track record, but it nails it quite often. But when it really nails it, it nails it. One of its most recent episodes, The Cutie Map, is one of the best in the show.
