Jon the VGNerd 885 March 14, 2014 Share March 14, 2014 (edited) (Not sure if this should be in Debate Pit, but, it's not related to politics, however.) So in case you guys are wondering, the MH370 from Malaysia Airlines has mysteriously disappeared, without a trace, five days ago. We're all wondering on what happened to the plane; has it flown somewhere else? We all know the reason why because signal was lost, which has resulted in a widespread investigation from East Asia, including Japan, Australia and the USA. If any of you guys have theories from the plane's disappearance (aside that it was "attacked" as both passengers who are not terrorists, only with stolen passports, and the crash, because there isn't any evidence if the plane made a crash landing), feel free to post up. Let's just hope both the passengers and the crews are alright... Edited March 14, 2014 by Jon the Bronynerd
Scootalove 10,689 March 14, 2014 Share March 14, 2014 I think what caused the plane to disappear was when the signal was lost, the plane flew somewhere that the pilot did not intend to fly the plane to the undisclosed location. There have been a lot of theories swirling around the plane's disappearance. 2 Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
Moonlight 7,286 March 14, 2014 Share March 14, 2014 I was wondering when a thread about this would be made. Personally, there's so many theories, some more plausible than the others. The pilot switching route and going to a different location on accident could also be realistic in a way. Either way, I just hope everyone on board turns out to be okay. matching setups with my bff pathfinder

long gone 8,929 March 14, 2014 Share March 14, 2014 For starters, it's actually MH370, not 307 But yeah, this is just a really strange disappearance. How is it that there are six nations looking for signs of the plane and nothing concrete has turned up yet? A Boeing 777 is a large plane, if the fuselage is intact then there should be rather large parts of it showing up above the water's surface, assuming it ditched in the water.

Last I heard, the suspects were both Iranian civilians, with one moving to Germany with his family (his family is already in Germany, Malaysian authorities got in contact with his mother) and the other, I'm not so sure about, but I've heard that he was seeking political asylum from Iran. Ah, thanks for that. I didn't see it well enough, but thanks again. No problem.

~Silver Essence~ 2,625 March 14, 2014 Share March 14, 2014 I've heard about this.... To say that it's all a hoax would be labeling without evidence, but I truly don't know what to say about this situation. Maybe tech communications are offline, that's my best guess towards the situation.
Oblivion 20,266 March 14, 2014 Share March 14, 2014 As Dale Gribble Rusty Shackleford said, it's a government conspiracy Well, to be honest it actually could be, I mean think about it, the only source of information we really got is the lamestream media! long gone 8,929 March 14, 2014 Share March 14, 2014 (edited) I kinda feel that there was some sort of failure in the electrical systems of the plane, disabling navigational equipment, radios and the transponders, and the pilots attempted to turn around to Kuala Lumpur but got lost along the way, eventually either landing at a remote/abandoned airport or, worst case scenario, the plane crashed. I honestly don't believe that Malaysia is properly equipped for a search and rescue mission of this scale, hopefully the US and other involved nations (like Vietnam, China and Australia) can provide them with the proper tooling to find a missing Boeing 777. Nine 707 March 14, 2014 Share March 14, 2014 (edited) That the plane didn't make it to an airstrip suggests to me instrument failures causing disorientation as a best case scenario. Catastrophic structural or component failures (fuselage/engines/any set of myriad interrelated control systems) being the worst case scenario, would obviously also keep a plane from it's destination. The instruments and control systems onboard a jet are supposed to be very redundant, so that any failure or even a number of cascading failures can be identified by the pilot with the help of ground personnel, and steps taken to work around the faults to permit a life-saving emergency landing, if a somewhat rough one. Sometimes very rough. But every now and then, a post-crash investigation turns up a design flaw acting as a potential lynch-pin that can prevent redundant systems from saving the plane, and tragically it's still often due to inadequate or improper maintenance. A lack of radio contact and the disappeared transponder signal has to be an electrical failure (assuming it's not sabotage), and if it were bad enough to affect system-critical controls, then the plane becomes a very aero-dynamic rock. Landing a bush plane with no power or engines is very doable in a large field. Landing a huge, slow, heavy jet outside an airport without means to mechanically move it's control surfaces .. is a very grim prospect for anyone unfortunate to be aboard. Although there's still the possibility that the pilots and crew just decided to take a beach vacation instead. Let's hope for that. edit: I forgot the grimmest part actually. If the plane's been on the ground for a week and not one passenger has made a successful cell phone call .. well it must be a very remote beach. Wind Chaser 4,768 March 14, 2014 Share March 14, 2014 (edited) I have no idea how this kind of thing could happen in this day and age, and I've looked at many different kinds of plane crashes. I knew since the day this came out that it was suspicious, lest the plane turn up intact and held hostage in the middle of who knows where, or intentionally disabled or crashed. I still wouldn't rule out an electrical failure or control failure, though. Edited March 14, 2014 by WindChaserPegasus
