None, so I'm getting bored and depressed as I have nothing to do but scroll the forums *Siiiiigh*

I used to play Wizard101, but quit due to so much drama and wasting money on it.

Does anyone feel like the term "MMO" is a bit looser now?

 

Like, from what I understand, World of Warcraft mostly involves instanced dungeons now - no more chance of somebody coming across you in  the open as you're being chased by two lvl60 Caldari Tigers and saving you. And most online games are like that, to reduce server load and such.

 

Think of it this way: If Team Fortress 2 had a "town" map where players are divided by world region, and can then go to a board to start a combat mission, but everything else is pretty much the same, would it suddenly be considered an MMO?

It's an MMO. MMO is for pretty much any massive multiplayer online game. With server lobby or not. S4 League(Anime Third Person Shooter) is an MMO and it has pretty much has a  pick a match or random match chooser. There are multiple types of MMOs. MMORPG,MMOFPS,MMO Hack n' Slash, etc and so on.

I am starting to get over Mabinogi :x not to many MMOs stand out or keep their entertainment value after a while now.

You're missing the point. Think of Borderlands 2; it's thought of as an FPS that you can join someone's game in.

 

Now, imagine that in Sanctuary, you could see other players. That, on its own, would pretty much put its feature-set on par with all the other games considered MMOs; you have central town hubs where you interact with people, and then you go through challenging dungeons with a smaller group of players. Usually, there's also guild features and such; actually, many simpler FPS deathmatch games have those too now. And, TF2 has a huge trading community, and ALL online games seem to have a levelling-up mechanic now.

 

There's very little left that actually uniquely identifies something as being an MMO. Now, that's not a bad thing - it just means that it's harder to classify one game as being "one's favorite MMO".
