Ever heard of Occam's Razor?  ^_^  It's not really a solution if you have to introduce new elements to the discussion so that you hypothesis works.

Let's deconstruct this conversation. You think that the problem is the diarchy. That there is no participation of the populace in the process of decision making and you think that the princesses might be corrupt. Right? What is it that you think that they are doing that harms ponies?

The very fact that they don't have a say in who runs the nation is a kind of slavery. I studied medieval history at uni and I can tell you that nobody liked absolute monarchy. Not even the Lords. The kings and queens kept their hold on power by saying that they were Gods representatives on earth. I would say that Luna and Celestia have cultivated a similar image!

The difference here being that nobody actually has been shown to dislike them. Unlike history where we have accounts of how the populace typically disliked their monarchs and we have historical evidence of their incompetence and mistakes costing their nations, the ponies of Equestria, canonically, show no discontent with their rulers. The examples provided, at any rate. Could they be tyrants? In fanon, sure, if you expand the universe and show us more viewpoints. But canonically they seem to be doing a good job.

Queen Chrysalis achieving her life long dream and conquering Equestria. Rules while sitting in Canterlot...Has Celestia, Luna, Twilight and Cadence sitting on her right hoof as her faithful servants(Went into bad fan fiction territory)

Princess Celestia seems to me to be a much nicer version of Terry Pratchett's benevolent despot, Lord Vetinari. Celestia lets the country pretty much run itself, as does Havelock Vetinari. They both only step in when specific problems arise that need their very special skill-sets. Lord Vetinari has Sam Vimes, and Moist Von Lipwig to toss at any growing problem, while Celestia has Princess Twilight Sparkle. It's a good system, and seems to be working wonders on both Discworld and Equestria.

Remember, one pony, one vote. Celestia is the pony, and she's got the vote!

Although in my headcanon, Celestia is grooming Twilight to take over as ruler, so she and Luna can return to their own planet.

(Yes, They're either Gods, Angels or aliens!)

People kinda answered already, but I feel I should too.

You feel this way because in our world leaders don't sprout wings and horns naturally when some magic above comprehension deems them prepared to lead in some way. Like I said before: Equestria is not Earth.

I agree that they have cultivated this image that is similar, but in their case, they are not lying about it.

For dumb, self-important fics about mythology, ponies and fascist griffons that can't figure friendship out.

And I'm just getting started.

I would like to remind everyone of the fact that Princess Luna and Princess Celestia kick ass. First of all. Everyone adores them. Second of all. Ponies.

Though a parliament would look pretty funny in a pony world xD. It would make equestria too complex aswell.

I need to clarify something. The problem I have with a parliament is that it implies the use of the "democratic process" to elect members of this parliament. After all, if the princesses chose the members, it would be meaningless. The problem with that is that an election is very good at choosing individuals that are good at convincing people, not at choosing the ones that are good at getting the job done.

So I rather trust the princesses to know what they are doing.

Why do I have visions of a pony in ragged clothes with a cart uttering the words: "You're deluding yourself. We're living in a dictatorship - a self-perpetuating autocracy in which the ruling classes..."

Ponyville does have a Mayor... but we don't know if they are elected, so there may be some form of representative government bodies in Equestria. Although, as someone kinda mentioned, Celestia seems to be a ruler that only steps that uses her power if necessary or uses her political authority in some instances ( e.g. Diplomatic functions and other boring stuff ). Though Celestia has been doing a fine job according to the worlds canon. The only potential problem with a Monarchy is the possibility a monarchs kid may turn out to be a loser, but Celestia and Luna are both immortals so that's not really a concern.

Also, as an aside: If we want to bring up who could rule by "Divine Right", I think the immortal creature that governs the movements of a celestial body could arguably have that  ^_^  .

If there is a comic or episode portraying Celestia and Luna's rise to power, I'm now picturing a "Help! I'm being oppressed!" scene.

I know there's a place you walked
Where love falls from the trees
My heart is like a broken cup
I only feel right on my knees.
I spit out like a sewer hole
Yet still receive your kiss
How can I measure up to anyone now
After such a love as this?
