I hope there's nothing wrong with this post I wrote. I did not want it to sound too preachy.

"I like Fluttershy's element of kindness in My Little Pony. The truth is kindness is the social glue that keeps sentient beings together. With enough kindness, aggression is stopped. Kindness to me, makes life worth living. In the absence of kindness is war and division. Kindness is not a weakness, if it were, why is it that war that robs sentient beings of their autonomy, but kindness does not? Fluttershy is such a well received MLP character because of this, she demonstrates bravery even when not everyone shows her kindness back, that is a form of wisdom worth aspiring to."

Yet, people somehow dislike her for being what they deem a "pushover" when she's just being...the thing the second half of her name says she is? I mean, her name's Fluttershy, not Flutterbrave

I am thinking that people like different things and different shows and this should not be a topic of conflict or commentary. Please stick to the topic of the thread without potentially stepping on any toes of people who may like x y z. No one is forcing you to like anything and shows of varying types will always exist. Just enjoy what you like and share with the community why you like it.

Now I am thinking on what to eat for dinner. :sealed:

Bravery comes in different forms, it is not always about heroic battles, sometimes it is about sticking to ethical principles even when dealing with the cruelty of others. The second part Fluttershy has demonstrated repeatedly in the show. I agree with your last part. I'm just pointing out there are more ways to be a coward.

As for Fluttershy's shyness, that appears to be a form of social anxiety, however her shyness is not necessarily a negative, I see it as her having respect for others boundaries, making her less pushy about what she wants. The problem comes in is when others perceive that as weakness and take advantage of her, like in Putting Your Hoof Down.

I know, but her namesake is being shy and that's why she's called that, main trait first, and Fluttershy does have bravery sometimes, yes, she even learns to not let people walk on her in Putting Your Hoof Down, I don't dislike Fluttershy btw, I'm just saying that people dislike her for reasons that either are problems with the fandom, such as being overrated, or reasons that the show has already solved and they still ignore.

I agree, a lot of the dislike of Fluttershy stems from a complete misunderstanding of her character. It's easy for people to play armchair psychology and call her wimpy in Dragonshy episode but would fans treat a friend with phobias like that? because if they do, they would not be a good friend if I'm honest. There were problems with the Dragonshy episode, yes, however Fluttershy's phobia about full sized dragons was not one of them, I'd be terrified too if I was climbing a mountain to approach a creature that might see me as food. If anything, Rainbow Dash was acting a bit of a jerk in that episode.

MLP fans who condemn Fluttershy for her behaviour in that episode need to take a step back and think their criticisms of her through more IMO.

And yet, they turn around and excuse Rainbow Dash's behavior by saying "everyone makes mistakes" but condemn Fluttershy because her "Iron Will" form made Pinkie and Rarity cry, even though Rainbow Dash trades Fluttershy for a book, joined Applejack in trying to get rid of the fruit bats only because she cared about cider, and plenty of other things

Absolutely, a caring friend would have wanted Flutterbat cured of her curse, not done away with. Fair point that the destruction of the apple farm has more far reaching consequences for Equestria than just depriving them of cider, it's a crop failure, one that would've reduced the efficiency of Applejack's farm.

There have been episodes where Rainbow Dash has acted in service for others instead of herself, like in that Wonderbolt episode. But there have been episodes where she could have treated her friends better. in Dragon Quest she was even worse than in Dragonshy, as she forced Fluttershy to see dragons again, knowing full well just how debilitating her phobia was for her. Was humorous to see Rainbow Dash accidentally knocked down by Fluttershy for her behaviour. But after that I'm surprised Princess Celestia did not notice this and intervene to discipline RD. She does notice when Ponies misbehave sometimes, though.

And Applejack isn't devoid of critisisms either, because the way she acted towards Fluttershy in Flutterbat wasn't at all how she should have acted, I get that it was crop distruction, but she didn't even listen to what Flutters had to say, just ignored her

Not to mention Rarity only wanted them gone because she saw them as ugly, not because they were an actual threat

But Applejack got redeemed because she sacrificed the large apple for Fluttershy

And then again, it could have been avoided if 'Jack just listened to Flutters

Applejack did not consider the possibility that Fluttershy was right about the seeds, if there were more apple trees about there would have been an increase in the number of apples grown every year. The bats did not eat the seeds, not having enough crops can be just as detrimental as the crops being destroyed by encroaching animals that take them.

Yes true, Flutters definitely should have tried to bring her arguements to the forefront more, but alas, this is how they learn their lessons, they make up for it in the end, and further learn friendship lessons

'Jack just acted really out of character in my opinion, usually she's willing to listen, but I guess since she's been the one to care for Sweet Apple Acres all this time she didn't consider that others may be right on the matters about the farm

Where as Fluttershy was in character and with her knowledge about animals, she took an environmentalist approach to the matter. She really did get screwed in that episode though, I don't often see Fluttershy get treated like this by her own friends of all Ponies, but if they had listened to her, she would not have become Flutterbat in the first place. Twilight Sparkle would not have needed to cast that spell which backfired. Magic being as unpredictable as it is, while it can be used to avert disaster in a pinch, should be a last resort solution to a problem. They were lucky the Flutterbat transformation wasn't permanent.

I asked Octavia Scratch what she thought of the idea of Queen Chrysalis redemption. It's easy to hate Chrysalis, however I am not going to lie about this, I would think it be cool to see Chrysalis stop being evil. If MLP FIM had carried on not get cancelled, we could have seen this happen.

The only issue I see there is it putting a hole in the 'not every villain is reformable' thing

Perhaps not, but if Chrysalis did not redeem, it would suck, both for her and other characters. I'm not joking when I say this, if I were in that fantasy world reborn as a Pegasi alternate timeline Equestria, like in my fan fiction, while I may be tempted to retaliate toward Queen Chrysalis sometimes for her rotten behaviour, there would be a mental barrier preventing me because I would not want to escalate conflict or become like her, cruel and selfish. And I think in a normal state of mind it would hurt my feelings, to see her so entrenched in her beliefs that she needs to inflict suffering for the survival of her hive, when Thorax showed a better alternative.

Yes, I would like my personality to be like Fluttershy's in that imaginary scenario, kind and gentle.

Given my troubled past IRL though, I don't know if I could compare myself to Fluttershy in MLP, I used to get into fights with people, I am sorry for it.

Agreed. Tirek / Tirac, King Sombra, Opaline, the Storm King, Cozy Glow and former Queen Chrysalis don't deserve another chance. They know exactly who and what they are and they'll never stop, they'll never change. They'd be someone else if they did.

Trixie, Starlight Glimmer, Tempest Shadow, Discord and Diamond Tiara all did change. In spite of being very stridently in possession of their various unbalanced powers, these latter characters were all in another sense quite naive and somehow childish. It made them nasty, but destroying worlds and hurting ponies in masse, were not features of their epistemic orientation. When their lives took a turn, it brought out something else in them.

The second group of ponies I've listed had serious problems. The first group of ponies WERE serious problems. Problems that needed to be solved.

Friendship is real, Evil is real. Even in Gen 5.
