That I'm expending too much energy and time on reinstalling a bunch of software so I can watch a DVD of an old anime, but now it's the principle of the thing.

Darn straight. Playback software for physical media have been getting worse and not better in recent years.

It's neglect. And the reason for that neglect is that a part of the industry is really pushing the streaming services, even though those are maybe just now passing their peak. 

I bought a blu ray reader and burner for my computer, and I was really bummed when I had to go to Wally World and just buy a dedicated Blu Ray player.

Basically, PowerDVD sold me software that claimed to play blu rays. 

It had to download new assets each time, and after they updated the software 3 months later, then they wanted more money. 

It's highway robbery and playing along with something like that is beneath contempt. 

The blu ray player I bought is okay. I don't like that it has only two types of output in the back. 

It is kinda cool and kinda weird that it has it's own wifi, but I guess that just means that I won't get stuck with blu rays I can't play.

As you said, it's the principle of the thing. 

If you don't have a physical copy that you can access, you don't have it. 

They're literally charging folks for nothing now. 

It is based on an argument that anything "old" isn't worth watching anymore, and that's an even bigger problem, but that's a rant for another time.

Although it is unfortunately paid for software, you can use Red Fox AnyDVD if you have a copy already installed before it got taken offline, which will decrypt the physical media for you and allow you to rip them to your hard drive, you may need another third party app to convert it to the file type of your choice however, but I can tell you it does work, if you're concerned about the quality of media players and dwindling support for DVD, I would suggest making yourself a backup copy then keeping the decrypted version on your computer. The downside is AnyDVD is not compatible with Linux, there are probably some alternatives to this software however, you may have some luck using Wonderfox HD video converter factory and it supports HEVC codec for mp4 files.

I'm with you on that one, I disagree with people's claims about old isn't worth watching anymore, it's personal preference, I have the same opinion about generations of Transformers, My Little Pony or whatever other cartoon series. I still keep my DVD collection even with the problem of companies pushing digital streaming on people, it's planned obsolescence at its finest, and if DVD's were rendered useless by these decisions, they would be responsible for a large portion of plastic items being thrown away, just because, which cannot be good for the environment.

I'd recommend the computer but if you can't afford the games along with it, probably better to get the art instead!

Oh, I already got the games. Just can't play most on my current one.

I played Red Dead Redemption 2 earlier this year. I feel like the longer I stew on it the more and more I like it. The character writing is just so good. RDR2 ending spoilers:

I keep thinking about the final scene between Dutch and Arthur. Some of Arthur’s final words as he’s dying just telling Dutch how he gave him everything he could right up until the end. Even as Dutch was tearing the gang apart and giving into Micah. We get to witness all of that happening slowly, Arthur’s friends dying one by one because of Dutch. And in the end Dutch can’t even reply, just walks away while Micah’s yelling at him. Hard to think of a video game ending scene and death that hits as hard as that did. The fact that I’m stilling thinking about it all this time later speaks volumes to that. I loved Arthur.

I usually don’t even like Rockstar’s writing that much but RDR2 really was different, probably because they actually took the game seriously.

Wondering if there's any point in trying to get mob heads tomorrow with my enchanted trident in Minecraft, been waiting a whole (real life) day for a thunderstorm to occur, none happened. Should I just give up with it and use a different decoration for my castle dungeon instead of Skeleton skulls? or carry on with getting the Skeleton Skulls? I've not been having any luck with it, I know how to make Charged Creepers, but unless the thunderstorm happens I may as well pack up my Skulker Box and go back to base to do something else, more bad RNG equals wasted time.
