THIS IS A QUALITY RATING LIKE GIVING AN EPISODE A 7.5/10 FOR BEING DECENT. NOT TELEVISION RATINGS LIKE HOW MANY PEOPLE WATCHED IT.

according to the ratings graph, the show's quality has remained relatively consistent. Season 3 took a bit of a downturn not surprisingly. Lowest rated Season 4 ep so far is Breezies which was surprising to me. Also surprised The Return of Harmony - Part 2 isn't rated higher.

Highest Rated Season 1 ep: Winter Wrap-Up

Lowest Rated Season 1 ep: Griffon the Brush Off

Highest Rated Season 2 ep: A Canterlot Wedding - Part 1

Lowest Rated Season 2 ep: The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well

Highest Rated Season 3 ep: The Crystal Empire - Part 1 & Too Many Pinkie Pies (tie)

Lowest Rated Season 3 ep: Spike At Your Service & Games Ponies Play (tie)

Highest Rated Season 4 ep: Maud Pie

Lowest Rated Season 4 ep: It Ain't Easy Being Breezies

There's more variation from this season than the others, which I think should give us some pause.  Having extremes of good and bad episodes does not speak too well of a show's quality.

But given the number of votes for the later episodes, it might flatten out over time, and who knows, the ranges might have been more extreme at an earlier time.

I think Derpy skewed "Rainbow Falls"'s score.

Interesting. I should consult the old episode discussions to see if it mostly matches up.

Having mare-a-thoned the first 3 seasons, I didn't really analyze the episodes individually. Just took everything as it came.

I've gotten a general sense of how many feel about them though, so "Too Many Pinkie Pie's" surprised me with it's rating.

The Return of Harmony (Part 1 and 2) have an 8.6 rating, which is on the upper end of things; but since I'm a little out of it, someone should double-check that :P

Pre-season 4, best episodes are Winter Wrap-Up and A Canterlot Wedding Part 1?

Many of these choices surprise me, I would think a more accurate descriptor of the show's quality would be a percent negative/positive index based on the opinions of a sample of the community's top analysts.

I don't trust IMDb users, it's troll haven over there.

So let me get this straight. Owl's Well That Ends Well, The Mysterious Mare Do Well, and most of all freaking WONDERBOLTS ACADEMY and SOMEPONY TO WATCH OVER ME are all...

1. Following an AABB rhyme scheme

2. Episodes from each of the four seasons

3. Worse than this

There is one statement there that's false, and I'm pretty sure it's not the rhyme scheme.

(Also, apparently Hurricane Fluttershy is inferior to Maud Pie. And that rhymes too! There has got to be a pattern here...)

IMBD ratings are about as trustworthy as metacritic's. And by that I mean not trustworthy at all

That said, surprised S3's highest rated episode was Crystal Empire, that episode is usually rated by fans as one of S3's more mediocre episodes. On the other hand, at least it's not Magic Duel

Also thought Boast Busters was worse than Griffon the Brush Off, but seeing the latter doesn't surpise me

Not surprised by Breezies either, I wouldn't say the reaction was more negative than Rainbow Falls, but I've seen enough negativity towards it that it doesn't surprise me

I thought "A Canterlot Wedding" As a whole would get the highest rating, and I totally knew "It Ain't Easy Being Breezies" got the lowest.

This just goes to show why you should generally come to your own conclusions about an episode at hand, and not rely on a review site or video to tell you how to feel.

Highest Rated Season 4 ep: Maud Pie

Haha, people really loved Maud Pie.

I can understand though, her dry humor made her hilarious. xD

I don't trust ratings statistics, especially in this day in age. Neilson boxes, where this data is taken form, sample only 1 in 10,000 homes. .01% of all american households. That is a lousy sample size to base any conclusions off of. Not only that, but in this age of recording programs, as well as streaming and viewing episodes on secondary devices like tablets, phones, and computers may skew actual viewership.

Huh, most of that isn't surprising I suppose, though I don't think Griffon the Brush Off and Games Ponies Play are all that bad really. There's still a bit of Season 4 yet to come though, so I wouldn't crown a definitive best or worst for that just yet. :P

It's not ratings like how many households watched, it's quality ratings voted by users like rating it 8/10.

That's what I initially thought when I first saw the thread.  I had looked at viewership numbers for the show on Wikipedia and I found that of all episodes, "Pinkie Pride" had the second lowest viewership of the season after "Daring Don't"-- so when I saw that "Pinkie Pride" was highly rated, I thought to myself "what" until I looked at the axes.
