I'm either over thinking this, I'm smart or I'm really slow but I thought of something.

Derpy's first appearence with the derp eyes was a animation error according to hasbro, but before derpy's first apperance she was named as ditsy do. I looked into it and found out that ditsy means clumsy or stupid, so does this mean that derpys eyes were never an animation error?

In before everypony already knows this and I'm just really slow xD

well sometimes, other characters pull derpy faces so its possible they might have planned to make her go wall eyed on occasion but not all the time. hence the "animation error" excuse.

Derpy was an animation error that the fans picked up on and they gave her the name Derpy in reference to her "derped eyes" and developed fanworks about her. She has mostly been depicted as fairly clumsy, somewhat childlike and friendly personality.

Yeah before she was a background pony with no name who's eyes were animated into being floppy on accident in episode 1 season 1.

Derpy was an animation error like everyone said, due to her eyes. They originally gave her the name Ditzy Doo, and they changed it to Derpy and it all started from there. She is usually depicted with a clumsy, bubbly, childlike personality.

Personally, I think they should just cut their losses and give her a new name. Her toys and merchandise leave her anonymous with pictures in place of a name and that just doesn't feel right

 

And don't start about the fandom whining about it. They bought on themselves by making all that fan labor without thinking of official, approved content. The little girls--the people this actually made for--don't know (and hopefully don't care) about the controversy, and won't be the wiser. (Won't somebody please think of the children?!).

Well, obviously "Ditzy" means clumsy, which is why she was heading the wrong way to get the birds, and dropped the piano on poor Twily </3.

 

So really, I think her eye were just an animation mistake, not intentional until the fan base went bananas on it.

You know like those "special" kids you see at school with the helmets and waterwings, ultra ugla clothing their parents puts them into and derp faces making strange noises because they don't have the intellectual capacity to make words come out.

Derpy wasn't originally named "Ditzy Doo". "Ditzy Doo" was a character that was originally mentioned but not shown in Winter Wrap Up, that Lauren Faust later said they could make be the name of the character.
