CavyShy 169 April 26, 2014 Share April 26, 2014 G4, hooves down. If I HAD to pick one other than G4...I'd have to go with G1. It wasn't the worst of the worst, and it had an actual plot, plus fairly dark villains. G3 is the one generation that pretty much had no plot or just the slightest amount of interesting-ness at all. Bland. Creepy. Boring. No villains. G2 was also kind of bland and exhausting. G1 had humans though, and those are kind of just something that stood in the way(no pun intended....hahaha.). I watched a G1 movie once, and I must say, it wasn't terrible. But G4 is so much better. G1 makes them feel just like talking horses. If they didn't talk...they'd just be....horses. *The Cavy Queen*
sonicdude558 27 April 26, 2014 Share April 26, 2014 Honestly I never had a favorite generation. G3.5 is what I grew up with. All the weird commercials, toys, etc. I cringed at the commercials when I was a kid. G4 made me change my mind about the whole mlp thing. Its a whole new thing brought to the table. Frostgage 7,975 April 26, 2014 Share April 26, 2014 I was never interested in the previous generations. I can't speak from experience but I doubt they had the qualities that FiM has. Rarity Paige Belle 1,854 April 26, 2014 Share April 26, 2014 Generation 1 is definitely my second favorite because its fantasy elements and creatures are closer to FiM, with that said; the human characters were really boring and felt pretty unnecessary. I've watched all of Generation 2 a few months ago and I have to say I don't think it was that bad-despite being less fantastical and set in a more rural setting it did teach a lot of good lessons. Generation 3 I only made it through five minutes of a clip on Youtube before I had to stop, so the only knowledge I really have about it is from reviews-take from that what you will. Generation 4 is still my favorite, but I can definitely see how it was influenced by G1 as well as its character's personalities were implemented (specifically, Firefly). How could you have watched G2? There was no G2 TV series! Beautiful, Stylish, Fabulous AND evil! What more could you want? (Thanks Kyoshi for letting everyone use your sigs!) Shanks 10,816 April 26, 2014 Share April 26, 2014 G1: The ponies are significantly more child like and tend to rely heavily on the human girl Megan but I will admit I like Firefly. It has more diabetes inducing moments than G4 does but the irony is that the villains are significantly darker than G4 (I am not joking) which is both surprising and I really think makes G1 worth watching. My current avatar is a G1 villain named Tirek, him and Grogar are everything that King Sombra had the potential to be. I like G1 despite its flaws, in many ways G4 is like an improved version of G1. G1 1/2: A lot of people mistake this for G2 but G2 didn't have a cartoon and I have to say that quality wise things took a serious nose dive in this cartoon. The ponies are bland boy crazy Mary Sues in a rather sad and obvious and failed attempt to cash in on the early to mid teen market. It is at least not as bad as most of the teen shows on these days but that is not really saying much. G3: No offense to G3 fans but what the fuck is this? 1 Rarity Get's Cockroaches
Wingnut 6,990 April 27, 2014 Share April 27, 2014 Hi @! We have a very similar thread on this topic so to help keep the forum uncluttered I'm merging your topic with it. I think that Generation 1 is pretty decent all things considered. The 1980s cartoon was made by the same people who produced the contemporaneous GI Joe and Transformers series for Hasbro. It had a mix of action and slice of life episodes similar to G4. My main gripe with G1 though is that the ponies were too dependent on their earth friend Megan to save the day. She was flawless, a true Mary Sue character and the total lack of imperfections or quirks always rubbed me the wrong way. Nonetheless, this series was the inspiration for Lauren Faust to create MLP:FiM so G1 deserves our respect for that if nothing else. I can't comment on G2 or G3. One had no cartoon at all and the other appeared to be kind of toddler fare Scootaloo sarcastically mocked in Look Before You Sleep. Each has their place but to be honest I'm not interested in either of them.
Foxx 258 April 27, 2014 Share April 27, 2014 Looking back, I can see that G3 is quite crappy, but watching it brings back so many childhood memories. For that reason alone, I can't really say I hate G3. Nostalgia, I guess. Dattebayo 2,850 April 27, 2014 Share April 27, 2014 I don't get the logic "well, the previous generations weren't that good, but without them, we wouldn't have FIM, so they deserve our respect". You wouldn't have Shingles if it weren't for Chicken Pox, it doesn't make it good. /I don't really like the previous generations, btw ^Click for my Deviant Art^ You truly are the Rosa Parks of not understanding what r34 is. But I'm not really too fond of the other gens, just the first and fourth. Same with me.
