Who's more powerful, the mane six or Megan from G1?

Sombra was not really much of a challenge. A rainbow locket can unlock some rainbow powers, but against six ponies. I highly doubt it.

I say the Mane 6. Because for one thing, that's 6 brains which can come up with ideas and 6 targets to hit. Although it depends on if they retrieve the elements of harmony. With them, they would win for sure, because they had the power to turn Discord to stone. Without them, I'm still pretty sure they would win, unless she can manage to take down at least one pony first. I think she was more of a babysitter with a prototype of the EoH myself, but who knows?

Let's subtract that world saving mcguffin each have for a moment, what do we have left? A farm girl and six superheroes! Yeah sure, Megan was brave and she was clever, but there's just no comparison.

 

The Mane Six are a forced to be reckon with in Equestria, each is capable of amazing feats alone, and when they work together, they're unstoppable! Could Megan or her pony friends do THIS?!

She's totes way more powerful and could whup the Mane 6 with her little pinkie!! 

 

Her access to the rainbow locket ensures only one needs to be present to activate the rainbow attack, whilst one of the Mane 6 could end up being left behind because she is having a "Bad Mane Day" and "absolutely cannot show her face in Ponyville ever again!!" and then there's only 5 and they can't do anything.

 

Power of Friendship? Power of shmendship. Megan all day with the Power of Independence. This is why the show should be called  "My Little Pony: Who Needs Friends When You Got This Serious Wicked Awesome Locket!!"

Mane 6 all the way! Fluttershy humbled a Dragon, TS defeated an Ursa Minor RD took down Starscream(not cannon, yeah... but I really liked that one), I could go on and on. The Mane 6 got that rainbow magic and on TOP of that they have their individual talents. Plus they're just so adorable.

I find it a meaningless question. G1 has humans interacting with the ponies, G4 does not. In G1, Megan provided a character that the audience is meant to identify with and invest emotion into. In G4, the ponies are sufficiently fleshed out as characters that we can invest in them emotionally without needing a human, thus making Megan unnecessary. There is no way to compare them, because there is no common ground between G1 and G4.

They are both different but I wouldn't go so far as to say they have nothing in common, Lauren Faust did base the mane 6 on Megan's pony friends from G1 after all. You are right that Megan was the main character whom the audience was meant to identify with, the mane 6 are much more fleshed out versions of Megan's pony friends. The mane 6 would probably curb stomp Megan though without her locket as we saw how the mane 6 handled the changelings they know how handle themselves in a fight. I kind of wish there were more fight scenes like that and having a few darker villains like the G1 villains Tirek and Grogar would be pretty awesome too.

Mane 6 of course. Deus Ex Machina from a locket is not only stupid, but a copout as far as story telling goes.

For the Mane 6 to have their own individual traits, trials, and growth that not only add to their personalities, but also empower one another with the Elements of Harmony (as well as whatever comes out the box now).  Who they are and what they deal with makes them powerful, and their friendship and the power that comes from that friendship is more powerful than any god-tier jewelry accessory.

I thought Megan gave the rainbow locket to the ponies at the end of the movie...I haven't watched G1 in a while but I don't know if it was ever really belonged to her, she just took care of it for the ponies.

 

Plus I sorta think the rainbow of light is a similar plot device for the story like the elements of harmony...plus with this seasons of FIM rainbow stuff going on with each character...it's almost like it's a tieback with the whole rainbow theme that MLP has had from the beginning.
