It's nothing to really worry over, I think. I mean, I dunno. Not really much to question, honestly.

Just one of our fandom's many little quirks :D

Well.. I'm a Grammar Nazi. So it's my issue I guess. I think I understand.

In that case, shouldn't the thread's title be "A question for which I have been looking for an answer to for a while"?

As for actual question, articles are over-rated (see what I did there?).

Okay, I got this coach. Want to know the real reason?
I am incredibly upset that I could only brohoof this post once. A 10/10 top notch explanation.  Edited by Frith is Magick

There is no real answer to that (at least one we can find out). It was a thing that started back at the fandom's inception and now its's just a thing we say. We don't know who was the first to start the saying but someone did and it's probably somewhere in the bowels of 4chan.

That's really the best answer anyone can give since it started so long ago, probably on the internet's most absurd site, and back when 92% of everyone here didn't even know Bronies existed. Its just a harmless little Brony thing now I suppose.

Now *ahem* Twilight is best pony. That is all.

It seems to be in the same vein as phrases such as "I has cookie." To imply affection.
That said, omitting 'the' from certain phrases is more commonplace than thought. Perhaps not with a noun after 'best', but still so in phrases such as "It is best that you..." I think it is just a phrase, and to make it sound smoother and more concise.

I think it originated from icanhascheezburger, but not sure.
