Episode with the dumbest complaints

I find it weird tho that you say most people seem to be critics in the fandom, oddly, I've found it to be the exact opposite for some reason.

You don't notice the endless bitching and complaining about everything, that's been steadily rising since the S2 finale? :P Where are your glasses, my friend :D

I got annoyed when I heard a complaint about Leap of Faith "retconning" the brothers into con-men. I was just like: "Hey guys, um you know flim-flam is a synonym for swindle, right?"

Oh man the writers decided to let them be more than just Music Man spoofs? For shame!

The "Canterlot Wedding" episode. So many assumptions were made during that time before. But turned out to be an episode worth watching.

Personally I thought that ''Fili Vanilli'' had the most dumbest and most stupid complaints I've ever heard. I've seen alot of people over at deviantART who kept on saying that Pinkie Pie should go to hell because she made Fluttershy cry.

Yeah:

1. It's Tartarus, not Hell.

2. Pinkie gets oblivious a lot. Deal with it.

Why don't you go telling the people those things? I'm not the one complaining.  :P

Do I need to bring up "Feeling Pinkie Keen" for the 100th time?

No, no, no! Save that for those complaining about her eyes!

Too late! D:

admit it the original voice they gave her was terrible

Actually, her voice marinated my soul. It told us that DHX knew about us and threw us an adorable derp-eyed bone.

The new one was generic as balls. And balls are very generic

I agree with the quote and hate how fans hate Last Roundup because of the controversy. I watch it for Applejack, but I want to defend the Derpy scene.

From what I've researched, when Derpy was first voiced, the VA didn't realize she was a female, and so voiced Derpy as a boy that lived nearby. It was an honest, not-meant-to-offend-anyone mistake. Personally, I like Derpy's censored voice much better, but then again I saw the censored voice first via Netflix's viewing of it before I've heard the original voice.

I think the real complaint that got Bronys upset was the fact that they removed Derpy's name from Rainbow Dash's line. Censored, less offensive voice, fine; Removing mention of her name; hey!

Here's a video from Youtube comparing the 2 versions as well as a third that keeps Derpy's name mentioned, but has her use the non-offensive voice. I'd go with the third one, myself.

personally, I watch it for best pony myself as well, but to the fandom the intro was important, and in my opinion, the name they gave ditzy, is just... Disgusting to me, having been bullied most all my school life I've come to hate names that insult ones intelligence, such as "derp"

Most of S4's episodes, and at least half of S3's episodes. Fandoms, particularly ours, seem to treat complaining on the same level as breathing. Everyone needs to be an analyst and a critic, and remarkably few people can enjoy things at face value without nitpicking it apart.

I enjoy good nitpick when it's all in good fun, but there comes a point when people get so hilariously upset over some things that you kind of have to shake your head and go, "Bro, it's a cartoon about talking horses. I think you'll survive."

Every episode where a character does something bad and some people automatically label the pony as out-of-character and dismiss the episode as crap/bad writing.

For god's sake, not everyone's perfect–– if somepony does something that gets under your skin... maybe it was part of their character, y'know? A flawless character a good episode does not make.

This is by far my biggest peeve with this fandom's resident nitpickers. Nobody seems to understand that just because a character's personality influences how they'll behave most of the time DOESN'T dictate that they will never, ever, under any circumstance, say or do something out of the norm. This happens with real people all the time, and to write it off as "bad writing" [no pun intended] does nothing but flatten the proverbial third dimension of these characters. The "This character would never do this!" BS is the bane of storytelling because it outright murders the concept of motivation, and how people can be motivated to behave differently under different circumstances. There's a reason the human (or pony) mind is considered anything but simple.

OT (finally): Gonna go with MMDW - correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the main complaint with that one that RD's "being a bitch" or that it "makes her look bad"? Um...how, exactly? She's definitely doing some attention whoring, there's no doubts there. But it's only human pony to let attention go to one's head, much less feel threatened by some nobody stranger who comes along to steal your thunder from out of nowhere. Not exactly the first time a "thunder thief" episode has been explored in cartoon history, so why's it such a huge deal when it's RD and not the countless other characters who've experienced it?

"But Thrashy," you may be saying, "it's widly OOC for her!" Again...how? Read again my mini-rant above regarding how much of a cop-out I feel the OOC complaint is, if you want, but I still don't see it. Was it not established from the very get-go that Dashie is obsessed with "awesomeness"? Of course she would want to do whatever she could to maintain her awesome image throughout Ponyville. That's kind of been her gimmick from the beginning...or did we all suddenly forget about "20% cooler"? Furthermore, this obsession of hers works well in the episode's favor by ultimately turning it around on her, imparting the lesson that there's a line between self-confidence and arrogance, and that crossing into the latter will only end up pushing people away from you. Quite a poignant lesson for such a widely panned episode, isn't it?

Which brings me to another point; it's not like she's never been known to show a bit of petulance and narcissism in other episodes. In fact, I'd say it's a fairly consistent character flaw of hers, so I really can't fathom why it's so egregious in this episode in particular. In fact, I'd even go as far as to say that this perfectly nullifies any argument as to her behavior being OOC, since it's decidedly in-character for her to be a bit cocky and self-absorbed at times.

Lastly, she learned her lesson. Shouldn't we applaud her for becoming a better person pony in the end? I just don't see the need to endlessly harp on her for this one episode.

If there's one thing I would truly get on her case for, it's for not putting two and two together after realizing MDW does magic AND has wings; if the possibilities of "alicorn" or "multiple MDWs" didn't occur to her, she must've had a serious case of the brainfarts that day. -_-

Same. I adore being overly analytical about the show. A huge chunk of my topics on this site are big, overly anayltical topics. But the thing is, I enjoy using my analyitical creativity on expanding the canon through fanon, discussing the show's characters, settings and themes with 'what ifs', and 'how abouts', and I dare say the 'classic' way of overanylyzing, in which we're talking in-universe about things, not making walls of text about how the writers didn't do this, this, this, this and this right, how this could have been done better, how so and so character was out of character and how that's somehow effecting your view of them as a whole, etc, etc, etc.

I sometimes wonder how the latter is even considered analyzing? It seems more like critiquing to me. I feel like some of these analysts went from analyzing the show to being critics of the show.

Yea I agree, I like to analyze the show from time to time, and I have stated several times before that I don't think "missed opportunities" is a good criticism AT ALL.

It's not that he didn't do ANYTHING, it's that what he DID do was not important. The most important thing he did was give Shining Armor herpes on his horn. Everything else happened in the backstory rather than on-screen.

I don't mind Twilicorn, but the way it happened was a huge anticlimax. There was a ton of building up to this huge event that would change Equestria forever, and in the end it took up two or three minutes after a mostly unrelated adventure full of boring, forgettable, gimmicky songs.

I would have ended the episode after Twilight got blown up, then made her coronation into a follow-up episode in order to give it the attention it deserves.

What do you mean by gimmicky songs?

The "Gilda = good, Pinkie = bad" crowd...

They keep forgetting that Gilda stole, risked Granny Smith's health, and reinforced Fluttershy's... um... "agoraphobia," while Pinkie's "revenge" was just a party meant to make Gilda have a Heel Face Turn.

"A Canterlot Wedding wasn't good because Luna is absent and then just shows up at the end like nothing happened!" No. We really cannot say what Luna was doing during that time. While I would like to have seen more Luna in that episode, the plot worked just fine without her. Focus on what the episode is, not what it isn't.

I only have a few problems with the whole derpy incident. I thought the original was completely fine. I understand where everyone who was personally involved with the change is coming from, but I feel the change caused more harm than good. The first and original recording has the best voices, the best reactions, and the best flow. The edit however really irked me in one particular way. They changed her to ditzy not derpy... that's fine. But rainbow dash's new lines make derpy seem like she actually is mentally challenged. It sounds like she is really frustrated but can't lash out because ditzy is mentally challenged and it would be really offensive if she said anything but calm, encouraging things. SO with that third fan made edit I feel overall the scene is saved. The voice is not offensive (I never thought it was but oh well), Dash is treating her like a normal pony, and the voices sound like they relatively belong together. The new voices did sound off even without context, but overall if by some miracle Hasbro allowed the fan made edit to take place, I think that would satisfy everyone.

That's just my personal opinion.

Honestly, those sound really exaggerated too

She stole an apple, oooooooh. I'm not saying stealing apples is good or anything, but it's not like she was holding anyone at gunpoint either

Risked Granny Smith's health also sounds pretty exaggerated, though people are probably only saying that because she's old

As for the Fluttershy thing, it's Fluttershy*shrugs*

I'm not saying Gilda was in the right or anything, but I do feel people really overexaggerate her actions(imo, at least, and I feel there were plenty characters that did worse than her, yet don't get as much hate)

Like the teenage dragons from Dragon Quest who were planning to do the equivalent of an abortion to someone else's baby.
