Getting into the vector community... (A.K.A. First vector)

So, after years of considering to vector ponies, I finally did...

There are probably tons of inaccuracies in there, but anyways, it's my very first vector. I've spent probably 8 hours to do this thing, but in the end, it'll be probably worth it. ;)

It was pretty difficult especially since the picture I worked on isn't that large (308x332), and of course, I am just starting to vector dem ponies. :P

So, as any beginner will say it, any constructive criticism is welcome in order to improve my vectoring skills, to the point where I could draw show-accurate ponies without even tracing. (Or even better, get hired by DHX to help in the show... :P:lol:)

(EDIT: Updated the vector, getting the errors busted that Jokuc pointed out...)

I don't know much (I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING  ) about vectors, but this one looks really good! :)

And keep up the hard work, it's nice to see that you have put so much effort into something! :)

And Dashie is freakin' adorable here

Uhh... equerio is a not-so-lazy Serb who has been to other countries smile.png

He may have been banned from the Welcoming Plaza, but he is still welcomed here biggrin.png

@,

I can see a bunch of small errors, but I'd just feel bad to point them all out. However, a thing that you might want to look at is cut-off edges.

I have a few posts you might want to look at. I'm sure it will help you.

...whatever

Blue needs to be sharper by changing the miter limit (you can find how to do it here)

Red needs to be sharper by converting edges to paths  (you can find how to do it here)

Purple needs to be smoother (just fix it, practice and you'll get better)

Orange stroke lines needs to be thicker (just fix it, all BODY outlines on ponies has the same thickness, if not it's most likely an animation error. The ear just needs a LITTLE adjustment)

Green needs to be better shaped and less flat (at least I think so, unless the reference pic was weird..)

Overall, it's a quite good vector. I mean you did not have any really big errors and from a long distance or when resized to a smaller size, those errors are hardly noticeable. So good job! Keep doing them and you'll get better each time :)

Thanks for your feedback, everypony! Appreciate it! :)
Jokuc, thanks for pointing those errors out. I've corrected them already. (See above, I've replaced the original one. Welp, I have corrected them... At least in my perspective... :P)

I can't really complain, as it is a lot better than I can do (don't know the first thing about vectoring jack), however, if I had one comment to make, it's that her eyes are too dark in colour.

For a first try, that's pretty damn good and you seem to be willing to listen to criticism and revisit your work. That's even better.

As someone who lacks the patience to vector properly, you got my respect.

Let's see if Jokuc left me anthing...

-the lower part of the mane could be a bit more curved toward the tip (the purple area)

-Pretty sure the visible part of the right hindleg should be shaded

Keep up the good work.

REPLIES

Darky: Thanks! I guess you could vector pony tails without tracing, right? I can't do that, as of the moment. :P

Red Cedar: Thanks for the feedback! For the eye colors, I'm pretty sure I got if from an official color guide. I guess it's because of the gradient that I've setup there...

Silverswip: Thanks also for the feedback! And for the curved part, it used to be, but I deleted a node, and forgot to put it back in. :P For the far right hindleg, I didn't realize it until a few hours ago. Thanks for reminding that anyways... ;)

Jeric: I guess a lot of people could create a pretty show accurate vector without much knowledge to Inkscape, and welp, I am one of them. Thanks anyways... :)

Well, today, I have decided to vector again. This time, it's Fluttershy. It's also my first time to vector a cutie mark, and it does look a little bit like mutated butterflies.
Looks like I may start putting them on DeviantArt as far as I could see the reception of my vectors... :yay:

These are very good, but, I can see some lines that don't need to be connected to other lines where ponies SHOULDN'T have them. Anyways, it's great! You might be a popular Deviantartist  (That's what I call them) someday  ^_^
