If we're talking about the show? None of them, honestly, as I don't personally think shipping really has a place in the cartoon itself, at least as far as the main characters go. Any of them could potentially be enjoyable in fanon though, and that way you could enjoy the ones you like, and ignore the ones you don't.

 

Honestly though I'm just not that big of a shipping fan.

Neither. The show doesn't need that, at all, for the main 6. It would ruin the theme, to throw them into that kind of relationship.

I'm okay with imagined romantic pairings outside of the actual show itself, but I don't particularly want to see them in the show.  "Shipping" whatever characters you want in your head has no real influence, canon-altering effect.  I certainly don't want to see any of them officially paired with stallions.  And I seriously doubt that they'd make real (so far as a cartoon is concerned lol) the mare / mare pairings I like.

I don't really have problems with the mane 6 in relationships just as long as it's developed and doesn't overtake the main purpose of the show.

 

Oh, and use existing characters if you can

I enjoy romance subplots. I'd be cool with them doing it in MLP as long as they were willing to give it the time and effort it needed to be up to par with the quality of the show. But I'm also cool with just sticking to fantasy shippings.

 

I doubt they're going to have romance in the show, though. They had an opportunity with Flash Sentry and didn't go anywhere with it, so I think that they have decided against it.

I don't care for actual relationships on this show, this is one of the few that I think should just stick with occasional hints at romance and the crushes they've had so far, like Trenderhoof and Spike's crush on Rarity.

 

But like I always say, if they pulled it off well and the writing was good, I could buy it and live with it. Just be ready for the backlash from fans and accusations of waifu stealing if it happened.

 

If I had to choose a pony, I'd go with Rarity, because that seems to be her area for some reason.

I think it might be a good idea, so long as it was well developed. I definitely think the Rarity and Spike shipping should be further developed, as in my opinion it's one of the better ships out there!

hmmmm, it really depends on how you define the actions that would be implied in "relationship".

As for the show itself, I honestly don't think a full-on romantic relationship like that found in shipping would work very well, and I don't think the show really needs it. That being said, it also doesn't mean that there can't at least be a hint of a relationship between two characters, or at least a more apparent and stronger bond or fondness between two characters that would not lead into romantic cliches or extreme demonstrations of affection, but would be enough to just subtly hint at the fact that if the show had to end, those two characters would be very likely to engage in a romantic relationship in later life. 

I think sometimes people do over-estimate the intentions of shippers or at least people who express a fondness for the pairing of two particular characters. I'll be straight up honest, I enjoy and approve of the Spike Rarity pairing, but I honestly don't believe nor support the idea of the two actually forming a real established romantic relationship on the show. That would be very unlikely and possibly harmful to the show if not handled well. But that doesn't mean that I'm not already happy with the close fondness the two characters share already, and I still do think that there are opportunities for their relationship to grow stronger without becoming a serious romantic relationship.

If anything, all I ask for is that the fondness between Spike and Rarity is maintained consistently. For example, I liked the development and consistency of Rarity's fondness for Spike in "Dragon Quest", so really just the occasional indication or slight enhancement of that fondness in future episodes would be enough without getting too romantically serious, but could also be interpreted to imply that the two may get into a romantic relationship in future off screen and far past the show's overall run.

But as far as for other characters? I don't think it would be a good idea. It would also seem a bit out of place, as only Rarity and Spike have expressed desires and needs for romance in their lives very early on in the show, whereas the other characters have never really expressed that desire or interest, so it would be weird for them to suddenly gain that later out of nowhere. Not saying it couldn't be done, but I doubt it could be done well with the rest of the main cast.

However, I wouldn't mind seeing Rarity and Fancy Pants as a pair. ^^
