Pinkie calls Rainbow Dash "he"

I just noted a bit of a freudian slip by Andrea Libman in "may the best pet win". At the 20 minute mark pinkie calls rainbow dash "he". I find this interesting because most of the time I don't think of RD as a "she". I know RD is female, and I don't think of RD as a male per say, but I all most never think of RD as a "she" because of how un "girl like" like she acts. it sounds weird when I here the other ponys say "she" when talking about RD. when I think of RD I never think "she" or "he" I think of "Rainbow Dash", unlike Rarity, who I always think of as a "she". anyone else feel this way?

Update; I think what I am hearing is pinkie jumps (am makes the jump sound) just as the "Sh" sound of she is sad and I am just hearing the "e" sound that is very close to sounding like a "he" sound. (how meany times can I use the word sound in this update!)

I just watched that part of the episode and Pinkie Pie doesn't say "he". Are you looking at the quote "You did, you did say that!"? The first you sounded like a he but she didn't actually say he.

Admittedly, though, I did call her he for quite a long time - I had only seen her in pictures before becoming a Brony and always thought she was a male character. Took a long time to snap out of :)

Before I knew who the voice actor was, I always just assumed it was that same nasally voiced chick that was in biodome and all those other 90s movies.

And what if Dash is a man. This whole time, plotting to get into the group of friends...

here are two of the most "she" like things that make you go, "o ya, rainbow dash" is a girl"

and then you see stuff like this and you forget she is female

I don't think there's really a way to act 'girl', so I don't know what you mean.

meant to say "girl like". I put it in quotes because anyone the is a fan of MLP;FIM knows that there is no one way a girl should act.

its the line after that. "You did, you did say that! (talking to RD) he did say that, that was the rule"(talking to every one else.) it a bit hard to here for !00% because there is a sound of Pinkie jumping at the same time as "he"

I still don't see what is girl and non girl about those pics?  Smiling and posing is non girl like, and reading is girl like?

The first two facial expressions and body langue are Feminine and the rest are masculine looking, that's all. if you take away the eye lashes of the masculine ones and showed them to some one that never saw the show I bet that almost all of them would call RD a boy, but if you showed the first to photo to some one that never saw the show they would most likely say RD was a girl.

Nope, she says "She did say that, that was the rule!" I just played it and heard it clear as day. ;) I think that it being hard to hear, as you put it, led you to hear "he" rather than "she"; but be assured that she is actually saying She.

Girls can be tomboys and still be girls, if that's what you are getting at.

These endless scribbles in my journal mean nothing to you; don't read on....

It was the end days ago.

looks like the freudian slip is on my end then!

Yes.

I see girls with those facial expressions all the time.  They're not ungirl.

I wish I know more girls like that. a girl with a Rainbow dash type attitude in not all the common in my every day life. (knowing some more girls like applejack would be nice too)

Not having traditional feminine qualities is why Dash is endearing. In general the show goes to great lengths to promote an asexual nature in all the characters, but it is more apparent in RD.

But there are times where you are reminded she is a girl, which is NOT a bad thing. Faust did want the show to break away from stereotype, but interestingly ... that is only effective if you remind the audience what the gender if a character is in the first place.

Scenes that highlight RD's eyelashes are one visual example of this.

And I have been reminded on more than one occasion that I seem to accidentally refer to Vinyl Scratch as a he, so I'm just as guilty of gender association

Sigh

this is one of the main reason I like this show so much!

Rainbow Dash doesn't act "ungirl". Rainbow Dash is a female, therefore her actions and behaviours are the actions and behaviours of a female. This is not to say that all females necessarily share these actions and behaviours, it just means that as a female, it is impossible for Rainbow Dash to do things which are unfeminine. Logic.

But I know what you mean. I think a more accurate statement would be to say that Rainbow Dash doesn't behave in the way that the majority of female characters in fiction have historically behaved. And a lot of those characters behaved illogically, with actions that didn't reflect their supposed beliefs due to their creators following a bland stereotype.

A lot of times in my fanfics, I sometimes accidentally type "he" for Rainbow Dash.

Made the slip up a couple times in my most recent fanfic but haven't changed it yet.

I just remembered something else. the first time I saw griffon the brush off (it was only the 5 episode I had seen of MLP) when the line "I guess I am queen lameo" I was like "did they mean king.... o ya RD's a girl"

I still feel weird when I write she when talking about Dash. Her character is so awesome that she simply cannot be defined by her sex. She transcends all gender boundaries. So from now on, instead of saying she, I shall refer to Dash as best pony

Yeah it's hard to be sure, but I increased the volume and heared "she".

You guys are weird. I've always thought she was a girl. Plus the shape of her snout is girl pony-shaped.

its very  fascinating the different way every one uses to tell male from female. for me it has always been body shape. If you put a fake beard, and men's close on a woman, and have them act like a man, they still look like a woman to me. same goes for a man, I can spot a par of female hips from a mile away. but once you take away the human female body shape, it really starts to throw me off. I don't really see the pony snout as female or male looking, I had to learn that there was a different one for each, it did not jump out at me at first the way human female shape do. but that's just me (wow learning a lot about my self today)
