It's been many years, how's it going MLPForums?

Hello everyone. To those who knew me back in the day and have stuck around the forum, I'm sure you didn't expect to see me again, and with good reason. To say it's been a while is an understatement. To say it's been an eternity is probably closer to the truth.

There are those who said this day would never come where I'd return, those who have some understanding what happened all those years ago, and those who don't. So it's time to set the record straight, turn a new leaf, and put it all out on the table. This is going to be a long one so please bare with me. I'll try to split this into sections to make it a bit more palatable, and hopefully I can make sticking around for the whole thing worth it.

Part 1: Apologies

Well, this is where I should start. It'll give necessary context for everything that happened back then, and the circumstances that led up to now. Back in ancient times (2012-2013) I was a fairly popular user on this forum, and had a significant following both casually and with a lot of die hard friends I made along the way. But there was a problem, I was a dumb fourteen year old kid full of vanity, and this was the first time I had ever been what I would consider "successful" in a social situation. Those are the ingredients for stupid decisions.

Having what I considered to be "fame" (I know, thinking that having people like your posts on a MLP forum often is 'fame' is pretty laughable in hindsight), I felt invincible. And I felt that I could treat people any way I wanted, with no consequences. And it should go without saying, that's a morally egregious way to behave. In retrospect I'm frankly quite disgusted with myself and I look back on a lot of the things I said both to users and to staff trying to keep me under control with sheer embarrassment and sympathy for those who had to put up with me. Even if I could have gotten away with acting that way it still wasn't right, and that's why I'm actually glad all these years later that I did get banned. Because after the anger wore off, it started sinking into my head that the way you treat people is important.

Being funny isn't enough to excuse being a jerk. And I was just too stupid to get that through my thick skull back in the day. I harassed a couple of specific users, even going as far as to go out of my way to cause them trouble offsite by insulting them on apps like Skype.

It should come as no surprise to anyone then that I got the boot, a permanent ban slapped on my account, and rightly so. The moderators back then displayed insane amounts of patience with me and frankly I don't know if I could have handled fourteen year old me as well as they did back then.

I'm sorry. And I am not just saying that. It's been many years but when I think back to things I've done that I sincerely regret, the way I treated people here in my last months before the ban still comes to mind. I know words cannot properly convey sincere regret, but I hope that now that I've been graciously been allowed back into the site I can once again contribute positively to the site, and this time it can last. I'm a twenty one year old man now, and it's been an immense weight off my shoulders to, after all this time, finally get to say sorry.

I hope that if you were around back in the day and were affected by my terrible behavior, you'd be willing to put that aside and allow me to start fresh, but if interacting with me again is something that some people don't want I understand completely and will respect those boundaries.

There's no justification for what I did back in the day and I don't wish to try and justify it. I hope I can once more be a positive influence here like I used to be in what boomers like me may call "The good ol' days".

Part 2: So what exactly has happened since the ban?

Well, I could write an entire novel detailing the amount of things that have happened since then, so I'll keep it concise and put it into a bullet point list to make it more accessible for anyone who just wants a brief summary of what's been up.

-I got semi-stable work as a freelance writer, doing mostly commissions for fandoms.

-I moved into another house, still live in the same state and town though.

-I enrolled in college, though that's currently on hiatus due to the pandemic.

-I improved my health and can better manage my Type 1 Diabetes

Obviously there are thousands of other things that have happened between then and now, but those are the most relevant to the overall state of my life. I look forward to catching up with any old friends who may still be around to this day. I've already reached out to a few.

Part 3: Why did I come back, and what happens next?

To answer the first question, there's no single concise answer that fully explains it. It's more of a compilation of small factors. The main contributing factors were my desire to apologize to those I've wronged, the fact I found an old fanart of my pony OC while going through a old hard drive, and that I befriended someone on Discord who is part of the fandom and reminded me that it's still kind of a thing, even if not as much as it was all those years ago. I was nostalgic for this place, and I sincerely missed it.

The answer to the second question is more exciting. I'm back and just going through the backlog of my old content right now, and while a lot of the things I did were pretty silly, I did have a few good ideas I plan to continue, such as the interview series with users of the forum. One of the fondest and most vivid memories from back then was me getting the chance to get to know so many of you through that, and so it brings me pleasure to be able to continue it.

I plan to become active in the forum, and the fanbase as a whole once again. I haven't watched the show since the middle of Season 4 so I'm quite a bit behind, but I'll end up irresponsibly binging all the episodes in a row some day like the weirdo I am, don't worry.

If anyone has any questions for me, relevant to the blog post or not, I'm willing to answer them in the comments.

And yes, Celestia is still best pony. Some things never change.

Hey, we were all young once, even me... I think...

Welcome back, at any rate. I'm not sure how much we interacted before your ban, but I was definitely on here before, so we might have.

Best of luck second time around! :)

Thank you! And I do remember you quite well actually from back when you were known as Full Spectrum.

Not too sure if you'd remember me, but I do remember you. It's great to see an old face again.

I do remember you. I've spent the better part of four hours looking through my old interactions with people and it's jogged my memory considerably. It's good to see you again.

I vaguely remember you yes. It's kind of insane to see the changing of the guard. It's like one of those movies where someone goes into a coma and wakes up and everything is different. Congrats on making it all the way up to Admin!

Welcome back, Harmonic! It's as heartwarming to see old users returning as it is to have newponies joining MLPF for the first time. You had excellent taste in Celestia art that I look forward to being graced by again.

7 years is a really long time, wow - you, I, and this site are all so.... old now! :P

Long enough for people to change and for bygones to be bygones, I say; I'm glad to see you getting a chance to enjoy MLP Forums again as I know this place meant a lot to you and you have a lot of good to offer it.

Although you aren't exactly "new," may I suggest starting a Welcoming Plaza thread? I'm sure you'll find - and be recognized by - a number of "the ancients" but I believe your situation more than justifies a fresh self-intro should you want one. Consider it a way to mingle with our newer users and form a new "first impression" just the way you'd like it as the pony you are today, free of the past's baggage. :yay:

Ah, the one and only Feld0. It's great to see you. Yeah, it seems like we're all getting up there in age. At this rate I'll be getting gray hairs soon. And yeah, this place means a lot to me, it has so much sentimental value, especially since looking back it was a huge part of my formative teenage years. It's kind of crazy how much of my social interaction at that time was entirely done online, but then again I live in such a small town it's not likely I'd have been able to meet many people just by going around my hometown.

You will be pleased to know that my Sunbutt art collection has been preserved in pristine condition on my old HDDs and is once again growing. Soon Celestia will conquer all, it is inevitable.

I'm glad to hear you have faith in me to reintegrate and be a positive contributor to the forum, and I'll do my best to make sure it's well placed.

I slid a welcome thread in on my return though admittedly it was light on details about myself so I'll probably edit it to rewrite the post and be a bit more of a proper introduction to who I am, my interests, the like.

Derp; I just encountered said thread - I found this blog post first. Sounds like you already thought of this and I'm preaching to the choir.

Share it forth! Bring it all here. May our Glorious Solar Goddess watch benevolently over us all. :sunbutt:

Just finished rewriting the introduction in a way that's way too long to reasonably expect anyone to read.

Brace yourself for more Celestia art the moment I remember how to embed images on this website. :sunbutt:

I wasn't staff when you were banned back in 2014, but I recall your poise and of course that somewhat memorable animated Trixie avatar. We could all probably write a book about our lives since then. I may not be correctly remembering your talent, and didn't know your age back then, but I do recall being somewhat impressed by your insights into pony back when I was just getting into the fandom myself.

I said this to you privately, but I want to reiterate it here again, none of us are really the same person we were after years of experiences. Nor will we be the same person after years of new experiences. As humans we all have the capacity to grow if we step back and reflect. None of us have to become saints, that would be boring, however we can always try and be better than our most emotional instincts would have us be.

That's enough of that. I firmly believe in not pushing someone's old mistakes back upon them, so I can promise you a clean slate. You do really need to eventually get caught up. You missed a lot! I actually am looking forward to your thoughts on a few of the 'newer' episodes. It is certainly nice seeing a fresh perspective from an old timer.

I did do quite a bit of half-serious satirical analysis of pony-related topics back in the day here on my blog and I am definitely not against taking that tongue-in-cheek approach and talking about some of the newer episodes.

Not sure I'd call what I had poise as much as I'd call it haughtiness but I appreciate the compliment none-the-less. Honestly if my earnest self-confidence was anywhere close to what I used to project as a front for my insecurities I'd probably have conquered half the Earth by now.

Look forward to half-comprehensible analysis of the later episodes as my brain struggles to make sense of so much pastel horse all in one sitting.

I wasn’t part of the fandom when you were on here as I didn’t join until March of 2018. As someone who spent his last year of high school with his head up his backside and didn’t treat some people very well, I’m probably the last person to judge people by how they were years ago. The important thing is that we learn and grow from our mistakes. :)

One does not simply walk away from entities of þðñ¥ and never return. We've all come back at some point or another, be it to occasionally pop in or a single catch-up. I managed to briefly summon @Zoop last year just by challenging his love for Fluttershy. :Daydreaming:

I remember little asides your Trixie avatars, so I guess that's good news for both of us! :mlp_smug: Nevertheless glad to see other Elder Gods still exist from the days of early Feldian creation. MLPF has become far more focused on community-driven interaction since our initial leaves in 14' and 15', and I think it's been for the better. @Jericand his staff have done well with revitalizing what this site was originally intended for and capitalizing on it. Should you decide to stick around at all, I'm sure you'll see for yourself.

You may have forgotten me, but I could never forget you. The belly button Skype group is forever ingrained into my nightmares and sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat.

I can tell from the stay I've had so far that the forums' current focus seems to be on quality over quantity of content which is something I greatly appreciate. Back in the day things felt really impersonal due to the fact hundreds of members came and went all the time.

When you're remembered not for your hard admin work going on three years, your wit, your sass, your creative writing or even your basic bitch graphic design skills, but that extravagant belly button trend you did that one or three times.

That's because there's dozens of hard-working staff members I've met on sites through the years but only one guy obsessed with belly buttons, hence why it stands out.

I'm still trying to find the hard drive with the pics from that group chat saved on it. No luck so far.
