Well, I saw this pointed out but Twilight already used two spells in previous episodes which caused species transformation so it's not like it's REALLY the first time we're seeing it. Which was Best Night Ever where she turned mice into horses to pull the carriage, and the spell where she was trying to turn an orange apple into an orange in TMPP and hit a bird and frog, turning them into a creepy mixture of the two. Honestly, I think you take this show way too seriously by some of your gripes with it. You hated Big Mac and Cheerilee because of an end of episode joke? "Cheerilee and BM rubbed salt in the wound by acting like the love poison never went away. It was cruel, disgusting, and out of character of Big Mac (for a while, he went into my hated character list" On that point I have to say, Seriously? Lighten up a bit. But hey, I DID find something that both of us can agree on. Somepony to watch over me had the worst and most dangerous moral to date. "Want your older siblings/parents to trust you and believe you're capable of caring for yourself? Go do something extremely reckless and dangerous but survive." Honestly, this was a terrible episode that really portrayed AJ out of character and I didn't find funny at all.

Well, I'm back to debate little more with you. Given your statements about this episode as well as OBA you make it clear you want punishment for bad things, and even say so in the top of of your statement. I'm not saying that being bad should be seen as okay, but this is another one I can't fully agree on with you. Lightning Dust was basically RD but without a moral compass. RD wants to be the best too, but she won't throw other ponies down to use them as a stepping stool to greatness. But what exactly is so wrong with the original ending? Again, I'm not saying everyone should just ignore what LD did, but if nearly killing the Mane 5 finally made her realize how selfish and reckless she was being, and was genuinely remorseful and apologetic and resolved to change her ways than that is character development by learning from your mistakes, which is basically the point of half of the episodes of MLP. So I don't see it as exactly a negative. If she learned her lesson and still got kicked out that doesn't set a good example either. It could be seen as more realistic as even if you regret doing something not everyone will always forgive, but if you make an attempt to fix something and no one acknowledges it and only sees the negative it doesn't exactly make the person WANT to make the change stick. You know, in going back and rereading your original post I see you flat out said about Rarity(paraphrased), "I don't care if she learned her lesson. I want some punishment, damn it." You know, you talk about how bullying is not black and white, but with lots of grey. And that's how it is with life too. Sometimes we can get away with things because no one figures out the truth. To have every episode with someone doing something bad end with an equally appropriate comeuppance would just not be realistic. I disagree with you on your assessment for that one as well, that Rarity should have been shamed and embarrassed for it all. I think it worked out better as is. I think it's excusable, not RIGHT, excusable for Rarity's actions in that episode. There will always be more birthday party's. You have a birthday once a year after all, but she felt that her life's dream was on the brink of coming true, so her putting work over friends isn't a huge stretch. If it had went the way you suggested Rarity would have been caught in her lies and have to beg for forgiveness. The way the episode actually went she was faced with a choice at the end, to choose to stay with her life's work or her friends. And she choose her friends, fully expecting it to mean she would be forever be seen as just an uncultured country pony. She CHOSE to stick with her friends rather than it being forced into an apology. You want to tell me you've never done anything really selfish and gotten away with it? In regards to OBA you brought up bullying being excused in the script. But keep in mind WHO was saying it , and WHY? The CMC are all kids, and thus have simpler notions of right and wrong and forgiveness and blah blah. So it makes perfect sense that they would easily forgive Babs. You can call it victim-shaming, but it doesn't change the fact that their method of standing up for themselves was vengeance on a large scale, which was to terrify Babs(which I'll call turnabout is fair play on that point) and make a grand fool out of her in front of the whole town when the float crashed. However, like I said in my earlier post, that could have led to her getting seriously hurt. When the CMC made the transition from being the victims of abuse to concocting revenge plots they stopped being in the right, and neither of them were fully in the right or wrong for it. While I'll fully agree that telling an adult won't always stop bullying, it's always a good place to start. The alternative is either ignoring it, silently suffering, or trying to handle it on your own, and we saw how maturely they handled that when they tried it. How fighting back and defending yourself from bullying is wrong, period. If you ever stand up to a bully in any way and fight back against a bully, that makes you the bully. That is wrong. What they did wasn't simple defending themselves. If the three of them had stood up to Babs and told her we ain't taking any more of your crap and maybe got a little physical like a shove or push to show they're serious, than it would be perfectly excusable. But, again, they went way overboard to that and endangered her life. Like I said before, revenge doesn't make them any better. It's a cycle. Babs was tired of getting bullied, so she bullied the CMC. The CMC got tired of being bullied, so they became bullies as well. I don't exactly get this. If bullies are packing deadly weapons, than confronting them is a bad move if you don't know what they're fully capable of. In that light, if you actually applied the moral the show presented, tell an adult, than it would be the RIGHT move. So how is that going to put them in serious danger?

Any ideas for a new Babs episode?
Never2muchpinkie replied to JayStorm's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion

Y'know, I understand some of your points, even if I disagree with them, but I think the big issue is that I can't address things with a neutral mind. After all, I just recently finished up a fanfic where the CMC go to Manehatten to visit Babs and confront her old school bully and she learns to speak up for herself, so clearly I have a bias here. That doesn't mean that I think Babs was in the right for her horrible behavior, but I can't help but be softer on her for it. If you'd like her to be "properly" punished than watch Seed no evil from the FIW series, where they use dark magic to make Babs go blind. One thing about his review that I think you can at least agree on is that the second half put way too much time portaying her as a smug jerkass who was loving every minute of picking on them, and not enough time showing any regret for it, which is another area where the show dropped the ball and makes her later sudden guilt seem a bit forced. I guess it's because I don't have any kids but do young children really put that much stock into value's episodes like this? Besides that I'll check out the links when I get a chance. I'm an overnight worker so it's almost my bedtime.

Any ideas for a new Babs episode?
Never2muchpinkie replied to JayStorm's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
You know, you done stole my idea! Sorta. I made a fanfic of the CMC going to Manehatten, but it's because of Applejack bringing them along to visit her Aunt and Uncle Orange. In it they meet Babs new friends and confront her biggest bully from her old school. That was my response to reading that there would be no Babs in season 4, which ticked me off given the premise was there with Apple Family Reunion, but AJ kept interupting before we could get any real details. I wanted to know more about her new friends, and if knowing she had five friends would be enough to give her the courage to stick up for herself. But nope! So I made a fanfic about it! It's only like a 20-30 minute read, so check it out if you're interested. http://www.fimfiction.net/story/175175/cmc-in-manehatten-an-apple-and-orange-mature -
It would end up the same way regardless. If Applejack thought it was strange AB was on the floor Babs would give her a threatening look behind AJ's back and AB would just say she allowed her cousin to take the bed so as not to be a snitch. As for your last part I personally don't agree with it because of the way I am. Honestly, I think I enjoy the show more than most because I don't put a ton of thought into every single thing. I take each episode and judge it only on how much I enjoyed it. None of the episodes are perfect, but none of the writers are either so it's fine with me. I think I may be the only person who had NO problems with Equestria girls, and still really didn't on a second viewing, mainly because I leave the in-depth analysis and things I miss to people who have more time and patience than I do to sort through the dirt.

A: I can maybe understand Silver Spoon, who clapped at Granny Smith's family appreciation day, but when did DT EVER get character development? B: Applebloom sleeping on the floor wouldn't necessarily set off any red flags. Applejack: Oh, you're lettin' your cousin take yer bed while she's here? That's so sweet a you fer givin it up to her. D: I disagree with you on this point. Haven't you ever heard of the cycle of revenge? DT was a bully, which got BS to be a bully, which got AB S and SB to be bullies. As you say there isn't a one size fit all solution for being bullied, but are you trying to say that sinking down to a bullies level would have been the better moral here? Is that a BETTER thing to encourage children to do? Standing up to a bully ISN'T wrong, but the method in which they tried to do it was. Now this is a kids show, so we see the worst that happened was the CMC wound up in a mud puddle, and the same would have happened to Babs if they didn't push her out, but who knows what may have actually happened to her in a real life similar situation. You seem to be saying that the CMC were in the right, but that's saying what you should do when you're bullied is publically humiliate your bully in front of everyone, which would make them no better. E: While this may not change your mind on anything, I wonder if you might take five minutes to watch a review of this episode by Digibrony. (The actual vid is almost nine minutes but only the first five minutes are about the actual review) He does address some of the issues you speak of. As he points out "If this was a more realistic show than there would have been a lot more ambiguity and a lot less resolution but this is MLP and I don't expect it to be completely true to life."

In rewatching Griffon the Brush Off the other day I have to say that Rainbow Dash clearly wasn't that truthful about all the pranks being random. We don't know how many there were in total, but we do see four, and only the first one seemed to actually be random, which was the hot sauce in the lemon drops. When she was screaming about it being hot RD pointed her in the direction of the dribble glass. Beyond that the only other two pranks we see were CLEARLY meant for Gilda. It's her party, so who else was going to open HER presents, which had the fake rattlesnake prank, and again, HER party, so who else was going to be blowing out the candles on the cake which had the relighting birthday candles? So at the very least half of the pranks we saw WERE intentionally meant for Gilda.

From Hearts and Hooves day and Pinkie Apple Pie respectively. Big Mac at first seemed to strain with the extra weight of the house, but right after that just seemed to say whatever and kept dragging it with no problem. However, in Pinkie Apple Pie he lifted the stove to prove he was "the strong one" and we can see him sweating with the effort. I guess you could claim it as just using different muscles, or the difference between pulling something and lifting something, but the weight difference between the two should make that irrelevant.

request Can someone draw an OC of mine?
Never2muchpinkie replied to Never2muchpinkie's topic in Requestria
Well, I found a pony generator and I found a combination that pretty much perfectly captures the way I imagine her. -
I'd prefer her to be show styled, but beggars can't be choosers. I'm just looking for a simple pic of her, but if you're the type that wants to throw in a background or something I won't complain. The OC's name is Rose Blossom. She has a pink coat, and I envision her as having a red mane done up like an opened rose, with a green tail that looks like grass with brown eyes. Rose Blossom is about Scootaloo's show age, while Scootaloo is just a bit smaller than the mane 6 in the time frame I want the pic to be drawn and has a scooter cutie mark. Rose Blossom is a character from a fanfic I wrote. http://www.fimfiction.net/story/169912/scootaloos-growth-from-baby-to-champion What I would really like is a pic of Scootaloo and Rose Blossom side by side riding scooters together, with a forward facing view, but at a diagonal.

Okay, maybe out of character is a bit wrong. You can say it's more about exploring a mostly unexplored aspect of the Apples, but at least they had reasonable reasons for their behavior in past episodes. Big Mac was worried for Applejack, which was why he tried to tell her she couldn't handle everything on her own. Applejack was worried for Applebloom, which was why she was so overprotective about her sister staying away from Zecora. The gabby gums incident made a fool of her siblings for the entire town, so being ignored/scolded by them is perfectly reasonable. Maybe I just don't understand it because I've never had too many big family events like they do, but I just didn't enjoy this episode. If it wasn't for it being Pinkie that was the other main pony here I probably wouldn't have anything to enjoy about it given that Pinkie is my favorite character for her random and unpredictable nature. Just like in real life, while Pinkie may be a master at it, I don't want to deal with a whole bunch of negativity and try to find enjoyment out of it. And speaking of people saying its like what would happen in real life, this is a world of technicolor magical flying ponies. In my opinion they could just as easily had a blast and enjoyed themselves as much as Pinkie but then there wouldn't be any lesson at the end. Well, who knows? At first Flight to the Finish didn't thrill me the first time because I was expecting Scootaloo to finally fly after hearing about the premise of the episode. Now that I was more prepared for it I really enjoy it now, so maybe a second watching will change my mind for this episode too. On a semi-related note does Applebloom's singing sound totally not like her or is it just me? I don't think Applebloom has ever actually had a solo before this so I'm not sure. Flight to the Finish's song also at first made me feel like the singing sounded weird so I'm not sure what the deal is with this season for CMC singing to me.

I just watched the episode yesterday. I gave it some time to marinate, as sometimes when I watch a new episode I jump into judgment, then I'll feel differently the next day. It was a very underwhelming episode to me. It felt like a season 1 episode, where in order to have a lesson be learned everyone has to act in such a way to reinforce the lesson. I think the main reason the Apples behavior bugs me is based on two simple things: their closeknit family behavior from previous episodes, and the pony they're 'being good' for. Take a look at just about ANY episode that involves the Apples. When do we EVER see them fighting so much and getting on each others nerves about everything? Yet apparently in this episode every thing they do annoys each other. I guess the Sisterhooves Social episode was an illusion, which was one that clearly demonstrated how much AJ and AB love each other and how close they are. And of course, the second that bugs me is that it's PINKIE PIE they're supposed to be related to, and that pretty much speaks for itself. Try and count how many times Pinkie loses her smile throughout the whole trip. She has a blast throughout all of it, and even tells them she thinks they're all super WHILE they're in the midst of arguing. It might be more understandable to do a 'best behavior' bit if it was Rarity, who already dislikes the dirty farm work and has very high standards, or Rainbow Dash, who only likes to do cool things. But super sunny, overly happy Pinkie Pie? That makes no sense to me. Don't get me wrong. I do understand the lesson, that no family is perfect, but back in the SSCS 6000 episode, Applejack already counted all her friends as 'honorary family members' and she's known all of them and worked with them to save the world, etc. So NOW she's all of a sudden super worried about image? It just didn't feel real to me. So maybe someone can change my mind. What is your opinion on the matter? Do you think their behavior felt off, or do you think it was justified?
-
Well I suppose you can also look at it as simple heartache for having to use something that showed a bond between them against her sister. So she left them and her castle behind because it was too painful. My personal headcanon is that the tree and elements were sealing away a dark power that existed before the time of the sisters. That is why the forest is so different from the rest of equestria. We saw in the castle episode that a shadow pony does exist and it showed up after the tree was almost destroyed. That was probably the risk that was refered to.
-
So this is something I'm curious about. I mean, it's easy to say "Because the writers hadn't though of the TOH yet", but in-universe it's basically said that taking out the elements to use against Discord was a risk. Yet after beating Discord they held onto the elements. And then after sealing away Luna after she had turned into NMM, she just left them to become inactive in the remains of her castle.

Never2muchpinkie replied to Never2muchpinkie's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Well, that's not quite true. King Sombra was a unicorn. However, maybe he wasn't an alicorn simply because he was evil. Aside from that, we have only seen a small portion of Equestria. There could be many more rulers we don't know about. In Ponyville the highest level of ruler we see is a mayor, but other places could have kings or queens. -

Let's look at the cakes. In canon, we have two earth ponies who just happen to have unicorn and pegasus blood in them from a few generations ago, and have twins of the two other pony species. I don't know much about genetics, but the chances of that happening seem astronomical. And yet, it did happen. Going by that, is it that inconceivable to believe that there is, no matter how small, the possibility that an Alicorn could simply be born as long as they have the right genetics in their bloodline?

This is something that bugs me about the winter wrap up episode. While walking around in the beginning of the episode, she comments to Spike about the vests everyone is wearing, and states the color of each vest and what team they apply to. I can understand that she's new, so that's why she'd assume that she'd get her own vest when she showed up for the day. However, knowing that each vest stood for, she never ONCE thought to ask before what the teams do? "Green vests for the animal team, huh? What does the animal team do?" To me it just felt like a way of info-dumping exposition on us. We don't know what Winter wrap up is, so someone has to be dumb and have it explained to them so we'll know what it is too.
