The CGI Smurfs are creepy, yeah. The original designs look great, I can't understand why they couldn't do it more like that. Those ones in the image you posted actually resemble the original ones, unlike the realistic eye ones.

While I'm far from a Smurf expert (I've never seen much of the cartoon or read the comics), I found the idea of having the Smurfs visit our world pretty terrible too. Fictional universes (like Smurfland in this case) are a lot more interesting to me.

@Tacodidra Agreed. But you know marketers. Can’t have pop culture references and product placement if the story took place in Medieval Europe like it does originally. 

I don’t get why movie makers are so reluctant to just put in cartoony designs in WITH the live action. Just Rodger Rabbit it, no one will mind.

But ultimately, I think fully animated is the best way to go.
