Studying the internet has approximately the same effect, albeit less condensed. Humans are pretty horrible in the present too.

While I hold the Japanese culture in high regard...they just didn't give a fuck about human life...at all. Ever read about what they did to the Chinese? Or the christian missionaries back in the 17th century?

Dude, European hangings and torture got nothing on Feudal Japan. Nothing. But WWI, things got Japan-like.

@Duality Studying the internet, yeah, very much like being slit along your temples, tied up, then hung upside down over a pit of shit and piss until you die. The slits made you live longer. And the pit of shit allowed bugs and flies to mutilate you slowly and infest you with maggots.

I don't know man. People need 'safe spaces' at college campuses just because someone speaks opinions they don't like. To me, we got it way too good nowadays.

My point isn't that our overall modern situation is as bad as war-crime torture, but that people still do things as bad as war-crime torture (as reported on the internet instead of in history books). It's harder to get away with nowadays, but seemingly mundane suburban residents have still gotten away with torturing and murdering scores of people and dissolving their family members alive and literally chaining people to the wall of their basement as personal slaves and so on.

Humans aren't better, they're just more heavily policed.
