  1. I'm looking forward to seeing this! ...And I'm starting to wish I'd known more about Game Maker, as I've spent the last two years building a platformer from scratch in Java...oh, well, at least I'll have an editor to go with my game... You say you'll make a new forum? ...Do you mean a new topic?
  2. I think you did a great job; her fur being a "paint" pattern (a term from real-life horsemanship) instead of a solid color is a good change, and what I liked in particular about her backstory is how she gains bursts of strength and speed under the stress of seeing her loved ones in danger. I'm kind of a sucker for worldbuilding, and in the world of Equestria, earth ponies (like Sketchbook) do have mega-strength, so it'd make sense that she'd find it in herself to stand up to creatures bigger than herself. It might be a good idea to give her a few more character flaws if you want to use her in a story---though I have to admit: going days without food or rest because of a project is no small flaw (think Twilight from "It's About Time" in Season 2), nor is it unrealistic: I've read about what Isaac Newton did...
  3. Welcome to the forum! I'm a Computer Science major myself; glad I'm not the only one around here into computers (by a long shot!)
  4. Cool. I've been spending most of my free time on fan-projects, so unfortunately I haven't had the time to try Minecraft out, but what I've seen of Minecraft on youtube looks pretty impressive---not just for Minecraft as a game, but as a medium that lets players build their own games and artwork inside the game. What kinds of things have you built on your Minecraft server?
  5. Thanks for subscribing! I have about two series about WoW out there; one from around 2007-2008 called Does Blizzard Really Hate Paladins (written before even Wrath of the Lich King came out), and one I'm hoping to wrap up soon called WoW, Then and Now. Check them out if you're interested! I haven't worked with C++ in probably a decade, but I have been working with Java all that time, which is close to C++ in a lot of ways. And I think I remember what I learned in college about C++, so I can probably give you a few pointers here and there if you need them. I think it's worth stating that easy to miss things when you type in all sub letters. I think I understand why you're typing in them; it's totally in-character for Fluttershy, and it is cute, but it's also easy to miss.
  6. I believe it! What are you using to build the game, Flash? Or is it built from scratch in a programming language like Java or C++?
  7. What's your game called, and what genre is it? I'm in the process of making a fangame myself, and I'm about ready to release a proof-of-concept of it---I just need to complete a couple other personal projects before I'm ready to release it. It's a platformer/shmup and comes with a level editor.
  8. I know. I proved as much. Cool. Thanks for letting me know! Someday I might try it, but not for my current project; I already replaced the music video with a different idea.
  9. Well, I kind of do and kind of don't have videos about it---I'll be posting a lot of videos about it once I get a few other personal projects completed, and many those videos will be tutorials about how to the level editor works. Mostly the videos on my youtube channel are about World of Warcraft, but I have one video that contains a little footage from the game and the editor near the beginning:
  10. I'm afraid I'm not familiar with 2D fighting games. I figure that there are hitboxes and physics to the way objects move in 2D fighting games, and I had to handle box-collision-detection and motion for the 2D platformer I have been (and am) working on, but apart from that, I don't know that much about fighting games.
  11. ...You're making me very eager to release my WIP proof-of-concept platformer, which I have been working on for the past two years, and hope to add dialog, inventory, and quest systems to so I that can expand that platformer into an RPG. (I just need to finish up some videos and maybe do a little debugging before I can release it.)
  12. Does FL Studio have anything that helps you stick to a particular beat? I ask because, a while ago, I tried to make an entirely a capella song with Audacity with multiple tracks, and I quickly found that Audacity wasn't the best tool for that---probably not what it was designed for.
  13. A whole FPS game...? Wow. Sounds like a lot of work, and I should know: I've been building a platformer from scratch, and I've spent the last two years building it! I started making it in 2012, back when the Elements of Harmony were still in the Mane 6's possession, so I had them using those liberally throughout the game...and then season 4's premerie came... Anyhow, sorry to disappoint, but I'm hoping to build on the platformer I've made, adding a dialog system, an inventory system, etc., and I'm expecting that to eat my time up like crazy---plus, as an adult, I'm working 9-to-5, so I don't have as much free time as a teenager would have. Probably the most I could offer is a few programming tips. For instance, if you're coding the game in Java, and you're using a JPanel for the game, then it might help to use paintImmediately() instead of repaint(). I discovered by accident that paintImmediately took the annoying flickering out of my game altogether, and I discovered that just last week. (After two years of coding the game, no less!)
  14. Thanks for clearing that up for me! I might even do one myself if I weren't caught up in a programming project; I love the worldbuilding FiM gives us to work with.
  15. It seems like different people have different ways of writing, and any one of them can produce something fantastic. With me---really, I've only written one MLP fanfic, and then I started spending my free time building a game loosely based on that fic instead, and I didn't have time to write fanfics after that got rolling. But that one fanfic began with one idea, one scene, and then I built backstory and explanations around that one scene---ideas kept building on themselves in my head, until I had a full story, where that one scene was just something that happened early-on, almost during the exposition. I think that's pretty close to how Brahm Stoker wrote Dracula; he had a dream where three vampire women were standing over him, and then a vampire man shooed them away---that was a scene early in the Dracula novel, and while that scene wasn't the focus of the novel, it was his starting point, and the novel he built around it turned out very good. But, again, different people have different techniques that work for them when it comes to writing.
  16. Hmm... No one exists in a vacuum; relationships with other shape who you are. So maybe if you need to nail down more details about his personality and goals, you should think about what Thorn's mother and father and siblings were like? And/or what kinds of friends Thorn made at school?
  17. You can tell from my "blank flank" label that I'm new to the forums---I'm not really sure what the "analysis" is that you're speaking of; is analysis a type of youtube video?
  18. I've got too many projects going on, myself, to offer to help, but you've piqued my curiosity---these aren't pony FPS games, are they? It's hard to imagine one, unless the player was in the horseshoes of a unicorn or alicorn with a variety of spells at their disposal.
  19. My Favourite Mane 6 Pony: Pinkie Pie How did you find MLP Forums?: I googled it. I figured it was about time I started looking at some brony forums, seeing as how I've been a fan of the show for almost 4 years now, but haven't posted on any forums! How you became a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: I was originally planning to do a parody of MLP Generation 1---a parody I never really got to start on, but while I was looking for material to work with, I found a video of Twilight introducing herself to Fluttershy, and Fluttershy being unable to answer in anything more than squeaks. That video got me curious, so I watched the self-parodying and epic first two episodes---and I was hooked! Hi, I'm new to the forums---new to posting in brony forums in general, in fact. ...As a matter of fact, I find I need to keep an eye on the "Tell us about yourself" guideline above to keep thinking of things to type, here. Well, I'm a programmer---I've been at work for the last two years or so, building a fan-game from scratch. I'm hoping to post it somewhere for download soon, and ideally, I'll be able to build upon that game, adding more features to it, and make it an even more epic experience. But...well, I figured I'd need to start frequenting brony forums if I'm going to go putting fan-games out there for people to play, so that's what made me finally decide to make an account here! I won't lie, I almost feel like Twilight Sparkle in the first episode---I've been working on this game all by myself for two years, not really connecting with anyone else, and now, I need to start connecting with other bronies if I'm going to make this game as epic as it can be. (Of course I actually realize that I need to start looking for friends, and Twilight didn't realize it until she was staring into the eyes of an evil dire alicorn...but close enough!) So far, this place certainly looks welcoming. I can't wait to see what all there is on this site...!
  20. My story is pretty close to that; I'm new here, too, and have been a fan of the show almost since it began---though I've not posted on any fan-forums that whole time! I haven't finished Season 4, either, but I can't complain about what I've seen so far!
