Hawaii really has no way to discern the difference between seasons other than looking at calendars and how late/early the sun sets/rises. We don't even get snow or cold temperatures here (except on the top of Mauna Kea). Regardless of the season, heavy rain happens at random points throughout the year, but lately is seems to happen a bit more in the summer and winter.

Hmm... To make a long story short, there was a science fair and I got so engrossed in my project that I didn't even realize that the deadline for the submissions was approaching. I eventually managed to finish it (right on time) and later, when I saw all of the other projects on display at the fair, I realized just how important and far-reaching science was and how much I wanted to learn about it to understand how everything worked. In short, I was inspired to devote myself to learning as much about science as I possibly could, eventually resulting in my cutie mark and maybe more importantly, one of my jobs right now.

Capitalism. Even though there are inherent (major) flaws associated with it, it's (in my opinion) the best choice compared to all the others. You can make your own path if you can or if you wish to and become successful as a result. Of course, you could go bust, but you do miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Ideally, there would be a capitalist system with government regulations on monopolies to allow for equal chance, but otherwise as little other regulations on trade and commerce as possible. (Essentially/in the vein of liassez-faire capitalism)

I'm pretty sure that's like passing Thanksgiving off as "The day where we began to turn against the Native Americans and nab their land after they helped us to survive". Saying "at least I have a day off" is a perfectly reasonable thing to say, especially if you don't want to sound like a raving lunatic. Also, it's really daft of you to say that his response was nonsensical and immoral, considering that you made yourself sound like an ass by ranting about a holiday's name.
