Why does Equestria have fat unicorns?
KillerKingBakudan replied to KillerKingBakudan's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
First, if my comparing obesity to alcoholism put you off in any way, my apologies and condolences. I had no idea your parents struggled with it. But you know from first-hand experience why it's a problem, and why we shouldn't just accept it. Drinking is a deterrent to your health. It's not something that defines us as individuals, nor is it something that should be celebrated. Nothing that harms us should be seen in a positive light. Why should overeating and refusing to exercise be any different? That's why I get frustrated when people are always asking me for advice and coming back with excuses. They'd rather just wait till they land in the emergency room because no amount of talking will convince them what I did worked. I'm not an expert by any means, but if I can do it, there's no reason not to follow suit. Not that everyone that's overweight exhibits this kind of behavior. This lack of commitment though is the single-most contributing factor to the climbing obesity rate in America alone. But what gets to me the most is that some people want to make any discussion on the matter taboo. If you say anything about a person being fat, it's like making a racial slur. That's the most asinine thing I've ever seen. Maybe it is hurtful, but most of the time, it's because they recognize that sort of criticism as a harsh truth, and they want to keep to lying to themselves to feel comfortable about the choices they made. That's what I used to do. There's no way I can look back to the time I'd put 12 inches around my waist and not say I was being lazy or neglectful of my own health. Of course, you're not going to see anyone fess up to it like I have. They'd rather just spin the commentary around to make it look like a civil rights issue; it's not about health anymore, it's about the way other people look. And how dare anybody say we need to change our lifestyle! This is the kind of ignorance I can't stand. Why in the world should MLP teach kids it's okay to be different at the expense of your own well-being? That's exactly what's being insinuated here. That's dangerous. I have a sister who's like that. Maybe she's comfortable with the way she is, but the fact remains that having that much weight puts you at a greater health risk. When you're obese, and you're told by a doctor that you're healthy, it's easy to assume nothing bad's going to happen to you. That way of thinking didn't turn out so well for me. -
Why does Equestria have fat unicorns?
KillerKingBakudan replied to KillerKingBakudan's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
In an environment that's as politically-correct as this forum, what ISN'T considered trolling? That's not why I started this thread. I was genuinely curious and asking an honest question. If being fat wasn't linked to life-threatening conditions, I wouldn't care. You'd know that if you actually bothered to read anything I said. And I'm pretty sure that any doctor reading through this discussion would agree there's something wrong with you, if you think it's trolling to say people should change their weight. -
Why does Equestria have fat unicorns?

I was under the impression that learning spells was like learning different academic subjects. Some people are better at math and science than others, and some are more knowledgeable about history. Twilight just happens to be one of those rare individuals who learn very quickly and happen to be good at everything. I don't think that other ponies are necessarily incapable of learning the same spells that she can; only that it takes some extensive training to perform them, and most unicorns are only invested in learning a few of them. -

KillerKingBakudan replied to KillerKingBakudan's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
We've seen more complicated spells than that. Twilight's turned animals into oranges. I'm sure that spells for gaining or losing weight isn't unreasonable. It would just take some studying and practice to use it efficiently. Come to think of it, Zecora gave Applebloom a potion to fix a chipped tooth. If there was a potion that could control weight, then that's something all ponies could benefit from. You know, poisoning the well does nothing. I'll have you know I used to be 80 pounds overweight. You can't tell me I'm not accepting of other people being bigger. What I DON'T accept is self-destructive behavior. I didn't start losing weight until kidney stones kicked in and forced me to change my diet. Looking back at that trip to the hospital still makes me feel like an idiot because since then, I found that keeping track of calories, monitoring my salt and water intake and ditching the sodas took next to no effort at all. It just seemed so goddamned easy, and now I'm getting obese people at work asking me how I did it. And they continue to disappoint me because all they can do is make excuses for themselves, even after they end up seeing a doctor. Understandably, not everyone can lose weight due to some inherent health problem. That's one thing. But if losing weight IS within your ability, but you instead choose to let yourself go and then bitch about having a bad heart or diabetes, that speaks volumes about your character. How can anyone in their right mind say that THAT's something we should accept? That's like saying we should accept alcoholism or drug addiction. But who am I kidding? Some people must be predisposed towards dumping toxins into their bodies, so I guess that makes me a bigot for saying anything about them. -
Shouldn't the Mane Six and Humane Six meet now?

People in real life wish they could just magically melt all their fat away. The unicorns in MLP have that ability, yet some like the puppeteer from Season 4, and the fat pony from Canterlot Boutique are still carrying all that excess weight for no reason. What's their excuse? Are they really just that lazy, or are they so depressed that they stopped caring about clogging their arteries?

Characters you want to hear songs from
KillerKingBakudan replied to ManaMinori's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
The characters share the same personalities between FIM and EQG, so aside from the obvious design differences, they practically are the same. If Vinyl was truly never meant to speak as a pony, you wouldn't see her speak as a human, with or without a crowd drowning out her voice. Regardless, I don't see the harm in making her sing when it's part of her profession. It wouldn't make her less likable, and it wouldn't ruin the episode/movie she's singing in. -

Larson also said in a tweet that she didn't say anything in that episode because she just didn't feel like it. She's not mute. In fact, you can see her chanting with the chorus in Friendship Games' first song. With that in mind, there's no reason for her to stay quiet. Singing wouldn't take away from her uniqueness, but rather enforce it because it sells the idea that she lets her music do the talking for her. I see people comparing her to Big Mac in how his conversations are almost always carried out with simple "eyups" and "nopes" and how that makes him unique, but even he talks in full sentences when he has to. That never made him less interesting, so there's no harm in giving Vinyl a song when the fans are all for it. -

Shouldn't the Mane Six and Humane Six meet now?
KillerKingBakudan replied to KillerKingBakudan's topic in Equestria Girls
I wouldn't mind all of the Mane Six crossing the portal, but I was thinking more about the human and pony six seeing each other, as they are in their own worlds, through new portals. FG showed that the humans could actually see Equestria without crossing over and transforming into ponies themselves, and vice versa. The Humane Six only know the pony Twilight as a human. Surely, they've been wanting to see her for what she really is, not to mention what they themselves are like as ponies? I'm especially interested to know how human Fluttershy would react to her ponied self. Would she want a lengthy conversation, or would it come down to her just wanting to do this? -
Well, shit. I had no idea people lost respect for her. I never noticed her acting that way in any convention footage post S2, and last I checked, she's been signing more of Whitedove's Fausticorn plushes. She even offered to help redesign Fighting is Magic after Hasbro slapped the developers with a C&D. I'm gonna look for some of her whining sessions; sounds really intriguing. I don't think I've been this shocked by any drop in public image since Donald Trump carelessly showed the world what a racist prick he is.

US Voice actors you'd like to see in MLP?

I'm not sure what Lauren is currently working on, but I do remember her saying at a panel that she'd like to go back to MLP if given the opportunity. Let's assume she actually did while DHX was still rolling out new seasons, and one of the writers suggested they put her in an actual episode as the Fausticorn to celebrate. She could even do her own voice. Of course, they'd still need to give her a more Equestrian-sounding name for it to make sense, but it still makes for some interesting possibilities. All the ponies look up to Celestia like she's god. She wasn't born a princess though, so surely she would have needed her own idol. Who better than the ponified version of the show's creator? Her popularity is just dumbfounding for a pony that doesn't officially exist. I wouldn't mind. It could be the next best thing since Slice of Life.

I'm not suggesting that Twilight should drag one group to the other world or vice versa. But now that she's met her humanized self, they could modify that magic-stealing device to open more portals. The ones created in Friendship Games were more convenient because you could see into Equestria without actually crossing over. Both groups must be extremely curious about one another. And who knows, maybe Sunset would want to check in with Celestia from time to time? At this point, I don't see any reason for them all not to get together like this. It's the perfect equivalent to Skype.

Assuming Twilight knows you well enough to let you in the castle, and she has even the slightest clue that you're being called there (a glowing butt could be caused by anything). And even then, I'm not sure she'd be happy with hundreds, if not thousands of ponies crowding the place when the Mane Six have important business there.
-
A human would be fascinating to ponies in and of itself. A human with a cutie mark would just take that fascination to another level. But regardless if it appeared on the map, they can't confirm it's really yours without seeing it on your butt. That could be the whole friendship problem for all anyone knows.
