  1. Another reason why Epic Games sucks and why Steam is better -

My drives were like this: C: (SSD), D: (HDD), E: (HDD). I had games installed on E: for both, Steam and Epic.

I installed a new SSD, and I wanted to have it right after [ C: ], so it would be like this: C: (SSD), D: (SSD), E: (HDD), F: (HDD)

So I pushed [D:] and [E:] forward to [E:] and [F:] respectively, and assigned the new SSD to [D:].

    Steam
I totally expected problems, but to my surprise, just like this it automatically noticed, that the disk with game library had its letter changed. I literally didn't have to do anything, Steam has the updated directory and the games normally continue to function as if nothing ever happened.

    Epic Games
It doesn't know the games are already installed and the only option I see is to install again. When I'm trying to install the game in the new directory where the game is stored, it says the directory should be empty. LMAO, it's right there! bruh open your eyes! I can't find any options to point it to new directory, so I guess I'm expected to manually uninstall all games one by one from system app page and reinstall these again, one by one. It's even funnier, because when I'm trying to run the games manually from their directories, they don't work! They either crash or throw errors, that they're unable to get Epic Account ID. What a horrible platform.

Steam has convenient tools to migrate library, allows to conveniently manage multiple directories. I can move games of my choice between disks at any time. Even the music app I use has the option to migrate library - though there I manually had to point it to the new directory, it reported missing files at first, but I got it all working in just few clicks. All the playlists, song stats/settings and everything were retained.

But Epic? This platform is sooooooo budget, doesn't offer any features, interface is clunky and so slow to navigate, and now this. That's why I never buy anything there, I only have freebies they give. e-twibigbrain.png

Yeah, relatable. I got my PC back when the SSD prices were very high, so my system drive isn't too big either, only ~250GB. I used to have few games I play most often on the system drive to have them load faster (my only SSD at that time), so %appdata% further eating space was a bit of an issue. For example, my Minecraft save I play with siblings online surpassed 1GB, and I do backups from time to time in-game, which basically multiplies used storage on the system drive (these backups are for potential save-corruptions and option to rollback saves in case something really goes wrong). By the way the Windows edition of Minecraft stores the saves in even worse place, hidden deep down in complex directory within local appdata - even crappier design. :maud:

Anyway, that's the reason I now bought another SSD - they're so cheap compared to years ago, and samsungs are currently on sale so it was hard to resist. :P

Now with second SSD I moved the games there (like Genshin Impact, that was eating over 60GB or something) and for now I have plenty of storage left on the system drive. c:

I have a similar issue with music production too, for some reason not every installer for plugins will let you change it from the default locations.

VST is very messy and idk what Steinberg was thinking by putting default install locations in both Program Files and My Documents. Really annoying!

Cuz of that and Windows being so bloated now (and some other issues too), I've been looking into Linux now.

Apparently FL Studio works with no issues on Linux, plus now knowing the stuff that I do use a lot, I will just install and bridge what I can use. And my current system I will use for installing and trying out stuff that may be interesting.

I installed Linux Mint (looked like the most user friendly for noobs like me to start with) on my old gaming laptop and have been tinkering with it since I did jump on a mini PC earlier this year, just waiting for it to arrive... typical international shipping times. :yeahno:

@Twot Shuffle I know, right? It's annoying when you can't change the installation destination. I do have Steinberg audio interface and their DAW installed and it's indeed VERY messy with all these download assistants, elicensers and whatever. Definitely TOO MUCH stuff and hassle for a single thing. :maud:

I have W10 and it's not bad, but I do have W11 on my laptop and switching to Linux is literally what I've been thinking of too. There's hardly anything new on W11, but boy it has soooooo much more unwanted crap on it! That system was definitely NOT made for performance with its free-real-estate garbage updating whatever they want whenever they want. I bought laptop just to put servers on it, and Windows is constantly bumping CPU usage by over 30% on some random tasks no one asked for. All Windows is made for is to play chess in Excel and text-based games in Word, and don't you dare to do anything else on this OS, because office will get angery and start updating itself to clog your CPU.

Also the focus mode on W11 - LMAO! On W10 you just toggle it as you need to mute notifications and the like. On W11 you have something like sessions instead, where you work for like 45 mins and have 5 mins break - what the hay is that for? e-lunalmao.png I don't know what those boys at macrohard are smoking there, but man, I don't want Windows to babysit me. e-twiwth.png

It is clear this OS is made for businesses, where your entire life is limited to an excel spreadsheet. Celestia forbid casual users from touching that OS, for this is illegal.

At this rate I imagine more and more people will want to switch to Linux. I'm glad I have W10 on my main machine and I prefer to skip W11, hoping the next system won't be as dumb and laggy. :mlp_icwudt:
