  1. "She kicked us out of the shop!"

That wasn't even the worst thing she did to you personally, Rainbow. She literally insulted you for being a 'small-town pony'.

  2. "I hate Rainbow Dash being forceful and boastful."

This is literally the situation where the episode would have benefited from her being like that.

  3. I can't honestly believe Rainbow is the first one to attempt to call Fluttershy out for her hypocrisy. None of the customers said anything before Rainbow? Really?

Also I like how Applejack wasn't insulted at all, but Rainbow was insulted to the point of it being...god, I don't know if it'd be considered racist, but it's stereotyping, that much is for sure.

A friend of mine had told me about this episode, saying that it was a very bad Fluttershy episode.

Tough i haven't seen it in for myself yet, so I am planning on watching it soon.

  4. WAIT A FUCKING SECOND

    WAIT A SECOND

They were busy! That's the whole reason that they couldn't help before! How come they're suddenly free now when it comes to giving Fluttershy a lecture!?

The episode went at length to say "okay, this is why these ponies aren't helping and why Rarity asked Fluttershy specifically" - why would they be put back in the episode??? I'm honestly baffled by this decision.

Literally the way this could be fixed is just to have a different reason for Rarity to ask Fluttershy specifically, oh my god.

The RM5 were virtually useless the entire episode. The only reason they were involved in the first place is to connect a (good) charade joke with Spike.

@Nightmare Muffin brought up an excellent point in the aforementioned discussion thread, too. Rarity houses Smokey and family, pays for their living expenses, and praised them for their work and personality right in front of FS in their presence. If something goes really wrong, they'd hurry to Rarity first, not the RM5; they're more connected with Rarity above the others.

Yeah, the humor in this episode generally has just been making me cringing, but that charade joke was pretty good, I gotta admit.

Too bad it's good because it's a tried and true joke. I've already heard it before.

  5. Dragon-charades actually sounds kind of fun.

...but when did you get to play it, Spike?

  6. Yeah, now she's insulting her customers rather than attempting to sell the products.

  7. Yeah okay, she's snapping at her assistants, definitely feels like "Putting Your Hoof Down" 2.0.

      Holy shit.

      "Go back to the forest."

  8. "Woke"

I want to get off this episode's wild ride

  9. I don't like to say there are "pacing" issues with an episode, but it is a little strange we aren't getting a new "character" until like, 2/3rds of the way into the episode.

  10. Valley-girl teenager breaks the snootiness. Classy.

  11. That cut to Rarity honestly kinda feels like it was just to pad out the episode... What was the point of it in a narrative perspective?

  12. Fluttershy... You are allowed to let others correct you.

Push the snootiness further? Anyone getting "Putting Your Hoof Down" vibes from this?

I am. What's strange to me is that Fluttershy's tactics in appealing to customers were working from the start, yet she decided to move on to being condescending to customers, for some reason.

  13. 'Manehattanites'. What a...strange comment to make.

  14. I haven't read how other people feel about this episode other than a lot of people didn't really like it, but I'm going to hazard a guess that people were bothered by a pretty pervasive problem with the episode I'm already noticing: Rarity was clearly ill-prepared for this event that there's no way she and her assistant ponies wouldn't have known about in advance. Which is really strange for a business owner and creative such as Rarity, who I would honestly expect to be better prepared for this sort of thing. It seems like she asked everypony last minute. Why would you do that to yourself? Procrastination never appeared to be an issue that Rarity seemed to have (except putting off that one thing for Twilight in that one episode, but she already learned her lesson from that...seasons ago).

      Dark Qiviut

I noticed that, too. It was the same problem from Honest Apple, and it persisted here. I don't care if it was a joke. At least make her responsible.

  15. I mean, to be fair, the persona that Fluttershy put on there is actually a really good business persona and a great way to answer if you don't actually know the answer to the question a customer is asking.

It's all about the attitude. If you have the right attitude, you can convince anyone of anything.

  16. Okay, hold the phone. Why is Rarity not leaving Fluttershy a sheet that details her clothesline so she could reference it? That issue became apparent to me once the guy asked the thread count - if Rarity is organized, she'll have a sheet that describes all her products. It's the same sheet that you use in order to cross-reference for a barcode, to make sure that products are in stock/out of stock.

If Rarity doesn't have that, I'm questioning her ability to keep her stock organized.

"I don't know enough about fashion," which is why you tried to give Rarity fashion advice, right?

Honestly, I think this episode would work better if Fluttershy acted exactly as she did then, where she pretends she knows more than the artist, but then she heard about 'thread count' and she was like wait wtf is that

i don't know as much about this as i thought i did shit

  17. They actually referenced "affirmations" LOL

  18. This episode is really phoning in the continuity. It keeps referencing past episodes, like, a lot. It's almost a little obnoxious.

  19. It's interesting how Rarity asked Rainbow to help run the shop first.

    1. Nyactis Mewcis Catlum

To be fair, it kind of makes sense. She's canonically used Rainbow to help model for her before, and Rainbow doesn't seem against fashion as a whole, just concerned about the practicality of it.

I kinda like how Rainbow said no, btw. She didn't outright dismiss her, just "sorry I'm busy".

  20. Aight, I'll probably give Fake It 'Till You Make It a look in a bit.

  21. I mean, she literally wanted a chicken cart in "The Cart Before the Ponies". I embrace our chicken overlord.
  22. "Ready Player One". Went in ready to mock it for not understanding gaming and gaming culture, went out of it going "wow, that movie was actually pretty damn clever".
  23. Assault is not an "expression of free speech". It's a crime. It is not, and never has been, protected under free speech. Punching people counts as assault. Tearing the city apart would count as vandalism, which is also not counted under free speech. I'm a left-winger and I hate Antifa, not because they are the "new punk-rock", but because they're literally assaulting people and damaging property. On topic, because this is off topic, but I stand by what I said earlier in the thread. Racists generally expose themselves as others have said, and I caution the mentality of "exposing" people to begin with. Many of the people who would argue for that now used to espouse pretty ignorant stuff themselves when they were younger.

Ah. Never played Spyro. Don’t play any video games really for that matter.

  25. Fair enough. You are right that it would be exaggerated for the sake of a cartoon since it would enhance the comedy/make it easier for kids to pick up. I'm probably just bringing too much personal baggage into the episode, which is something I try not to do when watching normally. Also, sorry about that, that's lack of clarity on my part. I don't think the intention was that he was deliberately abusive. I just think that he came off that way as a result of how he was being written, based on that lack of realism factor, and that it was hard for me to see his actions as not being so because of that. So yeah, you pretty much phrased my complaint in a better way than I did in my previous replies. While I stand by that complaint for my initial reaction, I can concede that personal bias probably plays something of a factor into why it felt like that to me. I can understand that. There is definitely a perception that people don't try certain things just because they're not as competent at it from the get-go. In a real world situation, that effort is usually communicated through an explanation of that behavior from someone who acts similarly to Mud. I believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt. At the same time, I don't think anyone is owed anyone else's time. Perhaps that's why I'm coming off the way I am in my replies. I don't mean to say that there can't be accommodation in society in general, but rather that you can't expect accommodation much on an individual level. Having support with getting a career or taking classes to better help develop social skills is one thing , but I really can't expect my friends to take care of my mental health, that's help I should be reaching out for on my own. Of course, I'm definitely someone who thinks we should all be more understanding, or at least attempt to be understanding toward each other, so I certainly agree with and get that part, and in my individual case, I would definitely be more likely to give a real person the time of day even if their disposition is grating to me. I think I'm just concerned that this can go from simply offering a hand to those who need it, into making people feel obligated and guilty for struggles that other people go through that aren't their responsibility. And I also know that just because we would prefer that everyone be understanding, doesn't mean they actually will attempt to be. There are some people out there who simply don't care about stuff like this, and a part of me can't really blame them. Also, the issue with comparing this to changes that are made to accommodate the physically disabled is... Well, to be frank, mental illness and physical disability are not treated the same and perhaps this is pessimistic for me to say, but I don't anticipate they ever will be. I know I'm not going to be taken as seriously as someone in a wheelchair. I have already seen countless people trying to discredit the effect that autism actually has on people. Hell, even those who want to help do so in misguided ways. Physical disability, on the other hand, is much easier to understand and much more tangible. You can't deny someone is having trouble walking or needs a wheelchair, you can literally see it. That's not to say they don't have their own societal challenges, but it's unlikely they receive the same dismissal. I don't entertain the idea that people with disabilities can stop being disabled, that's obviously ridiculous. Our brains are wired differently, and there's nothing we can do to change that. I guess I've just grown to the idea that all I can do is change myself. Plus, I hate being overly preachy. If someone doesn't want to spend their time attempting to understand me, why should I waste my time attempting to get them to understand?
