  1. A.K.A. trial-and-error adapting him into my style and/or pimping him out a bit. I'd always thought he'd look better with underbelly scales and more colours. And, of course, without fail, I always mix up which side his horns are on. Oh well.
  2. I like the design, but the character herself... who is she?
  3. Barney and Co. are all designed and stuff, as well as most of the phoenixes. Still haven't gotten around to making the finalized, cleaned-up pics of them yet. I'll post some of the stuff I've done of them tomorrow.
  4. Here he is! He was a difficult one to draw, for some reason.
  5. Okay, I normally stop at my set number, buuuut I really like your OC in both design and the character himself, so I'll draw him as well.
  6. @IIFlyingGraceII Got yours done! I know the busted shackle wasn't in the description, but I thought it'd look neat.
  7. Got yours done! Gonna finish the others tomorrow, 'bout ta crash...
  8. First three people to name a pony gets it drawn. Can be any canon character or OC. OCs need to come with reference, please. #1: Lightning Blaze - DONE! #2 : Project 2759 - DONE! Not as good as it should've turned out, but it's actually 5 am now and I should really get to bed. Prolly fix it later. #3 : Sharpwit - DONE! (Need more practice on 3/4 view things.) Extra : Blue Blur - not done yet.
  9. Yep; I've designed four of 'em already. Still, this may continue to be held up due to school and work stuff; I'm finding myself with not enough time these days. Things should be winding down soon...
  10. I guess that's not entirely a bad thing, seeing as that he's: Grumpy Easily annoyed Has a horrible bedside manner Not overly fond of other people Generally kind of a jerk So if people like that rub you the wrong way in the same way this does, I'm 82% percent sure that I've managed to accurately sum up a character's personality in their design, in which case, schweet. It is that he looks like an unpleasant person in general, right? I'm not understanding that wrong?
  11. Took me about two hours total, but here he his. I have the others on the way, but school 'n stuff's been keepin' me busy for the last while. I went ahead and posted Doc here first to compare and contrast to my first attempt: It's also worth noting that the older one was done in colored pencil and the other one colored digitally. both were hand-inked, though; I just use the 'contrast' tool in GIMP to make the lines solid black and thicker. Also, if you ever have trouble coming up with a color scheme that compliments itself well, use this useful doohickey. You enter the main colour and it comes up with different types of complimentary sets; I usually opt for the mane or coat as the coulours to compliment. I also had a little fun with layers and lines; I tried some minimalist colour stuff: ~Constructive criticism always welcome!~ EDIT: Hee hee... i just noticed in the shaded one above, the silhouette looks like it could be some sort of frou-frou model or something.
  12. I can see the burton-esque in Oracle, but that must've been subconscious. I actually started drawing ponies like this after watching about seven hours' worth of Fairly Odd Parents.
  13. Yep! Barnabas is the ringleader/boss of the fairgrounds. Here's a list of the staff--there's a LOT of them. It's a good-sized fairground: Barnabas Kelvin (Owner of the whole rig and ringmaster to the Phoenix show. Earth pony, Male.) Pezuña Bronco (Groundskeeper, trims, waters, and fertilizes the plants and shrubbery around the fairgrounds and in the garden. Pegamule, Male.) Doc Stitchwell (Fairground medic. Unicorn, Male.) Mongo (Janitor, as well as general gofer and ticket seller. Pegasus, Male.) Taffy (Food stand owner in charge of candy. Unicorn, Female. 6 mo. pregnant.) Baker’s Dozen (Food stand owner in charge of baked goods. Earth pony, Male.) Kuchukua ‘Pichi’ Picha and Nzuri ‘Michi’ Michezo (Photographers. Michi does advertising photos and general scenery shots, and Pichi takes and sells photos of the fairground-goers. Zebras, brother (P) and sister (M.)) Buster and Bruiser (Fairground guards. Twin pegasi, Males.) Rivet (Maintenance engineer. Earth pony, Female.) Oracle (Fortuneteller and seller of hoof-crafted odds and ends. Unicorn, Male.) Gravity Wells (Ferris wheel operator. Earth pony, Female.) Ballyhoo (Lighting operator. Pegasus, Female.) High Wire and Alley-Oop (Balancing act ponies. They do the first act of the warm-up show before any of the guest acts--those come before Barnabas and the phoenixes go on. Earth ponies, Male and Female.) Calliope Keys (The mare behind the music for the show. Unicorn, Female.) Shepherd (Runs the small petting zoo they have. Earth, Male.) All in all, that's... 18. A lot, yes... but I accept the challenge!</p> Also, fun fact: The Zebra's names are Swahili. Kuchukua Picha = Taking Pictures and Nzuri Michezo = Beautiful Color. Also I got several of the names from carny lingo.
  14. I'm not overly fond of this picture. I made his neck too thick and long and the mane is too dark. I'll make a better one later, probably. I'm working on full-body illustrations of all the... er... *counts* Twelve to fourteen of the circus staff. ...I'll explain about that once I have them all done and posted.
  15. I've been doodling my OCs all day and these are the only ones I deemed worthy of inking and colouring. This is Oracle, the local fortune-teller and seller of hoof-crafted items. Don’t let the appearance fool you; he’s actually a unicorn. A birth defect left him hornless and his magic manifests itself in psychic dreams and mind-reading abilities... which he can’t control or turn off, so, unfortunately for him, he's constantly reading everyone's minds within a ten-foot radius. Meditation helps him, but he can never get full control. It's a gift and a curse. These two are Taffy and Baker’s Dozen, the culinary providers of the fairgrounds. Taffy specializes in candy and sweets and Baker… well, that should be fairly obvious. The young duo have been married for a good five years now and, though you can’t see it in this picture, Taffy’s six months preggers. Baker's Dozen is Barnabas's cousin on his dad's side; the golden-tan coat / ruddy-red mane gene runs strong in the family.
  16. Thing I whipped up for a friend. Figured I should post it here, because why not? Ah, the things you can do with a sharpie and a half-hour in a waiting room.
  17. SILVERWISP! Yay, someone I know! Yeah, the legs were drawn kinda awkwardly... I drew this in the orthodontist's waiting room while waiting for an evaluation. And the darker green patches in the eyes are just part of the reflection--darker in the center, lighter towards the outside, some shinies. I probably shouldn't have outlined the darker portion, now that you mention it. Hmm... Barnabas would definitely be a more cheery RP blog. I was thinking of doing him first and maybe make an Oracle one if I get the time and/or willpower to run both of them. Now I just need to find the MLP RP community...
  18. ((EDIT: I forgot how this thing works so I attached the thumbnail first before I remembered how I was actually supposed to do this and I can't remember how to remove attached thumbnails. Bah. Anyhow, I inserted a better one above.)) So, yeah, ain't been on in about a year now. I've still been watching and drawing, but there's school and life issues and all the good stuff that I have to do now that I'm turning 18. Also, I've gotten more sucked into the Transformers fandom than the pony fandom. I have a Transformers RP blog on Tumblr and am thinking about making a pony one, too... I had an OC, Oracle. Maybe him? Or Barnabas Kelvin! But I'll probably be on here more now. Gonna change my icon, too. Oh, yeah! The last things I posted were some Spike designs, so I figured that another one was the most appropriate 'hey I'm back' thing. What'chu all think?
  19. Thank for taking the time to read it and even though you usually don't like things like this! It really means a lot! I like to write, but I don't very often, so I tend to have some problems like this when it comes to the flow of the story and consistency of tenses. I agree with pretty much everything except the last bit. Spike had basically eaten everything, so there were just a few bits of flesh and fur left. The blood was heavily diluted an, I thought, would've simply soaked into the ground. Most everyone has said that it's anywhere between okay and excellent, but honestly, I was never really happy with it, even when I posted it. I mostly just did to get some con crit (which you usually give ). I'm probably going to completely rewrite this in the future and maybe expand on it. Possibly. Thanks again
  20. A/N : This is an idea I had a while ago, so I finally used it to get myself out of writer's block. It's not as well written as I would like (actually, it's not really written well at all), so I'll probably fix it up later. Or maybe not. ------- He hadn’t meant to, he really hadn’t. He didn’t even realize what he was doing until it was all over and the poor animal was dead. But that didn’t matter now. All he could do was try and rinse the floor and walls clean of blood before Twilight came back. He could still feel it—his claws tearing through the frail creature’s skin, his teeth severing the rabbit’s spine. He could still taste it, too, even after going through the bathroom’s entire stock of mouthwash. That coppery, disgusting, brilliant taste. He shuddered and tried to push those thoughts out of his mind. He needed to get this done. With a final stroke, Spike picked himself up from his hands-and knees position on the floor and slumped against the wall behind him. He stared numbly at his handiwork, clutching the scrub brush limply in his claws. The floor was now coated with a sickeningly pink blood-water-soap slurry that made his stomach churn. That poor rabbit. It hadn’t died quickly. At least he felt better; the week-long bout of faintness and feebleness which had accompanied the sudden six inches he’d seemingly gotten overnight had finally subsided. He did feel like he was going to vomit, though. He sighed and forced himself to stagger to the broom closet and grab a mop. After a bit of thought, he grabbed a bucket, too, and trudged upstairs to the bathroom to fill it, resting the mop against the wall by the gory, bubbly mess. His crippling guilt refused to leave him alone. He should’ve known. Guessed. Something. It was his own body, for heaven’s sake. It was right there in front of him, every time he smiled in the mirror. Fangs didn’t exist to grind hay and vegetables. They weren’t there to crush gemstones to powder. Fangs served one purpose in nature, and one purpose only. Killing. Slaughtering. Rending flesh from bone. The poor thing never stood a chance. It had happened mere hours ago and he could barely remember it. All he got were a few blurry, gorey images of the poor rabbit, ripped open and squealing, and the intense urge to eat. He could remember how it felt though. It felt right. Disturbingly, sickeningly right. Then nothing. He pushed the bathroom door open with his free claw. It, like everything else it the library, was finely crafted from hard-polished oak. A small blessing, that polishing job; otherwise the marks of his mindless brutality would never come out, no matter how hard he scrubbed. And the nothing, of course, he woke up in a puddle of blood and mangled bits of flesh and fur. He shuddered at the memory. That much fluid shouldn't have been able to fit in such a small creature. Spike dropped the mop bucket in the sink with a loud clang and grabbed the hot water valve. He struggled with the handle for a minute, trying to get his shaking claws to comply with the simple actions he needed them to do. Finally, he got a grip on it and turned it so hard it almost broke. While the water gushed into the pail, he inspected his reflection. He certainly looked healthier than he had that morning. His scales were already staring to get their luster back and his eyes were looking much less bloodshot. Save for the heavy bags under his eyes from overwhelming shock and the drying blood and gore coating the lower half of his face and most of his chest, he looked perfectly fine. He raised a claw and scratched some of the caked gore off and into the bucket. He groaned, grabbed a rag, dampened it, and began to scour the mess from his scales. After he finished cleaning himself off, he shut the valve, grabbed a towel, and trudged back down the stairs, sloshing water out of the bucket with every other heavy step but not really caring. He’d been charged with critter-sitting that night while Twilight attended some sort of library thing in Canterlot. However, Fluttershy had needed Twilight to watch a rabbit of hers who kept getting into everything while she wasn’t looking that same night. One 30-carat bribe later, and it was Spike’s job. The instructions were simple; Fluttershy would drop it off at ten-ish on the doorstep and Spike would bring it in. He’d been really hazy that day, a weaker than usual. Twilight had noticed and had even contemplated calling off her library thing and watching the rabbit like she’d promised, but Spike had said he was perfectly capable of doing it himself and shooed her out the door. There wasn’t much to remember after that. Fluttershy had brought the critter in a fair-sized chicken wire cage and Spike had brought it in. A few minutes later, Spike heard it squeal and went to check on it. It had cut its haunch on a flyaway wire. Spike took it out to treat its wound… smelled the blood… and everything after was a heated blur. He was almost done mopping up the mess now. He squeezed the mop out one more time before plopping it back into the bucket. He removed the towel from where he’d slung it over his shoulder and wiped off the excess water from the floor and the small areas of the wall where he’d had to scrub off spatters of blood and other unsavory things. With the last of the mess gone, it looked like nothing had happened. Spike had already come up with a half-cooked story while he dumped the mop bucket's contents outside about the rabbit running out the door at some point. Fluttershy would be upset, of course, but it wasn’t like he could actually tell anypony about this. Once more, Spike trudged up the stairs. He gave a last, heavy sigh and collapsed into his now-much-too-small bed, exhausted, and fell into a deep, dreamless sleep.
  21. I'm not done colouring his body yet The orb is going to be the Element of Magic as a stone orb, like the other elements in the Season 1 opener
  22. I"M BAAAA-AAACK! So my Discord whistle kind of exploded so I'm doing this now instead as my art project (the exploded whistle counts anyways, since kiln explosions are unpredictable.) YAY COLOURED PENCILS
  23. While I do enjoy TF2, I actually meant a phrase from the show. Also, to only pick one of the three options. I'll go ahead and edit that in the description...
  24. If you could post a reply with a phrase, pony (except any mane six), or specific scene from the show (whatever is your favorite, please add a youtube link,) I'll compose a short instrumental for it. I'm also looking for lots of constructive criticism, so when I do post, I'd love to hear what everypony thinks!
  25. (Erm, that's a cotton candy cloud ) Yeah, I kinda messed up on the hair; I was trying to make it look like his head fur when I should've paid more attention to the flow, though I think long hair fits him fine. One thing I've thought whenever I see human discord art; his hair is the same colour as his mane, which makes sense, but doesn't look very good (in my opinion.) So, I made is head fur colour his hair colour and gave him mane-sideburns. BTW, thanks for all the critiques you give me, it really means a lot! It says 'I care enough to want to see you be a better artist.' I really don't think you know how much I appreciate it YES! Yes! That is PRECISELY what I was going for : hippie/con-artist, to be more specific, but I'm really glad that it was easy to see where I was going The wristwatch was mostly there for the purpose of making his human-arm look like his eagle-arm--gold and kind of stripey. In other human-ed art I've seen of him, he wears gloves, but it just doesn't look right to me. I'll probably add more to it, like, give him five watches or something crazy like that, and they all keep different time. Yeah. I know it sound weird, but eyebrows are actually my favorite part of the face to draw, mostly because they're the most expressive part of the face (eyes are pretty useless for divining emotion without eyebrows, after all.)
