  1. Derpibooru? Sorry, I've been out of touch with the fandom for almost five years
  2. While my skills towards drawing ponies, specifically, have withered over time, they wound up being bolstered by everything else I'd learned in the intervening five years about color theory, shading, proportions, and good posing! I wasn't expecting this to turn out NEARLY as well as it did, to be honest. I guess drawing ponies is kinda like riding a bicycle! Now, may I present: Dual Core Dual Core is the creation of @superspyro3000 who let me use him for pony-drawing practice! I really fell in love with this guy while drawing him, so here's a short Bio: Dual Core was born with two horns, and eventually developed two cutie marks, on the matching side to each horn. One horn and mark are for an affinity with plants, and the others, an eye for art. Despite having double the horns and technically double the magic, he doesn't have double the power of your typical Unicorn. If he so much as tries to use both horns at once--or, more likely, if he gets startled while using magic and both go off at once--bad things happen. Most of his magical skill boils down to the simple spells, like levitation; it doesn't help that he was born into a small-town community with no real magic users. Dual Core's creator is currently working on a story on him--you should totally follow him if this character's captured you interest at all! ...Oh, also lemme know what you think about the piece! Can anyone give me some tips or resources for drawing hooves at an angle?
  3. Regarding the shading, you've got a pretty good eye for what shadows go where--that's the hardest part! I(I'm also really digging her colors~) As for the technique itself, it can use some more practice. I'd be happy to help you out if you want some tips on that! But first I need to know how you do it now. When you shade, how do you select the color of shadow you want? Do you eye-dropper the base color and just darken it a tad? Also, what art program do you use?
  4. I wanted to make a post in Requestria that links to a Pony Practice livestream on Picarto from 5-9p. The stream is specifically so I can take OC requests and practice drawing ponies, so I can later do commissions with some practice under my belt. And of course, for the community interactivity! Is this okay to do? I don't have commissions available thru Picarto at all, and I'd be posting the finished ponies to the request thread and to the visual arts forum. Nevermind! I went back to re-read the FAQ and my brain skipped over this part on the first read, apparently : "Directing people to off-site art content to promote your art is allowable, provided you are sharing your art in your posts too."
  5. After four years, it's good to be back!

  6. Thanks! I used this guy to practice body anatomy; left all the lines as a self-reference. The anatomy's still kinda wonky and 3/4ths view is not my friend right now.
  7. First one! This one came out pretty well, but I've also drawn this pose about 30 times today already. Also I cheated and hid the hooves
  8. Heyo, forumgoers! I'm coming back to the fandom after a couple years' hiatus, and I've been trying to re-learn to draw ponies. I'm kinda gettin' bored with the mane 6 I've been practicing with sooo... show me an OC pony (ponies specifically for this one, please) of yours and I'll do a 20-minute practice drawing! (Fair warning, it will probably look a little weird and very sketchy!) Constructive criticism very much welcome and wanted, please 'n thankya
  9. Just so y'all know, I haven't forgotten ya, I just got smacked with irl business, plus it's been years since I've drawn ponies and apparently I'm terrible at it. I've been practicing when I've had free time, but since these are supposed to be commission shop examples, I'm saving your guys' for when I can actually draw them with confidence. It shouldn't be too long.
  10. It's been so long since I've drawn MLP I'm having to re-teach myself to draw ponies I did a lot of doodles in between calls at work, so here's a mini-compilation of the ones that didn't suck. The one random unicorn dude in the corner is the only pony I've managed to draw so far that didn't have a really uncanny face. MLP designs are deceptively simple
  11. @C. Thunder Dash I'm only doing single-character requests right now. Are you okay with just Thundy?
  12. @Mentis Soliloquy Sure, why not!
  13. @PripyatPony Oh cool! I'd love if you could do one of Oracle?
  14. I need some examples for a commission shop. I've got 4 slots open! RULES: First come, first served. I need a visual reference and at least two lines of description of the character's personality. You can specify a pose if you would like. [DeviantArt for examples of work.]
  15. 5/7. Coulda been worse. We staved off WW3 for another year so we've got that goin' for us. And whatever your opinion on the outcome, you have to admit, that election was wild.
  16. Heyo, everyone! It's been a bit, but I used to come here all the time a couple years ago. I decided to retire my old account since I haven't used it in literal years, and made a fresh slate! I forgot how much I liked this show, I kinda lost interest during early season four. But, then I saw half of a recent episode by accident, and I'm hooked again! I tend to hang around the visual art forums and show discussion, so... see y'all around! What all forums do you guys like best and why? I haven't really explored much else of the site. EDIT: Dangit, didn't know it'd slap a header up for all three.
  17. First post in like three years--made a new account, same username. If there just so happens to be anyone around that remembers me... hi there!! It's been forever since I drew this guy, I forgot how fun his design is! Anyhoo, I haven't watched any MLP since early season 4, really. I caught bits and snippets of the rest of the season and then not much after that. Then I was babysitting my cousins the other day and we put on some MLP and there was a bigass demon guy sucking the magic out of people. You know, for kids! I changed channels and decided I'm gonna catch up on the series when I have some free time, my interest is thoroughly renewed!
  18. Since nobody ever reblogs art on tumblr and DA couldn't seem to give less of a toss, I figured I'd post here and see if anyone had some feedback on these character's designs? They're gonna be the main characters of a webcomic I'm working on in a world populated by mutants, monsters, and modern magic. Still trying to piece together an overarching plot, so it's just gonna start out revolving around Lagtime (L.T.) and Bruce as characters sharing an apartment. /shrug Need to do more art for Bruce, I've got a lot of unfinished junk.
  19. I've honestly never had a favorite. I'm the kind of person that's in line for ten minutes at a Baskin Robbins deciding what ice cream they want--I like everything too much to pick one! I did initially find Pinkie Pie kind of annoying, but she's since grown on me
  20. Welp, that only took four hours! This is my second experiment coloring lines, and I like the soft overall look it gives. I'm also proud of how the little lines in the mane all turned out, giving it texture and depth, but all in all those lines alone took thrice as long for me to draw as it took for the lineart and coloring put together. 'Wow, Kiffy!' exclaims you, 'Wasn't that hard on your wrist?' Why yes, hypothetical forum-browser. It was. Either I need to find a better way to do texturing or start drawing in smaller res. Still, aside from the things I'm proud of, do any of you digital artists out there have any advice and / or critique for me? It's more than welcome!
  21. @@Odyssey -- Sorry that took so long, I set it down for a while and forgot about it X-X Scroll back up to the top post, I put Globetrotter there
  22. I've been doing some requests for practice lately and I wanted some feedback on how this background looked. I'm comfortable with drawing characters but I rarely draw backgrounds, so this outline is about an hour and a half's worth of work for me. Does the perspective look right? Should I add more detail, take something away?
  23. @@Odyssey, I'm almost done with yours, I just need top know what exactly globetrotter's cutie mark is? So I can draw it right, I'm not sure if the blue bit is water or not.
  24. @@Koukatsu, The problem seems to be fixed, at least for me! Thank-you very much!
