A small song to go with today. Happy Independence Day!

(It is where I got last year's little poem, it is a decent little song, give it a listen.)

    Spoiler

On another note, I will also be declaring independence from this site today. Or basically, there is some house cleaning to do and then that will be it. As to why: 1. I created this account as a result of the *gasp!* January 6th thing, as why not if that was going on, there's worse things to do, probably, and 2. You know that feeling you get that says "get out" or "you shouldn't be here" but you don't know why, but you follow it anyways? Well that is what I have been getting. So:

@CheeryFox I'm not exactly sure who you are or why you followed, but good luck in life.

@Deae Rising Shine~ Have a good life in Holstein or wherever you go. If it ever makes it to 1,000,000, please message me, I'd like to see that.

@DreambiscuitGood luck with you and your family, if you keep the last job I recall you writing about, we may run into each other. We'd probably never know though.

@Kujamih I wish you good luck in finding your next path in life. The U.S.A. isn't a bad place if you chose to come here. The oilfields pay very well and don't care who you are as long as you do good work, which I'm sure you do.

@Lucky BellsI hope your schooling goes well and I guess I have the same advice as above, if you can't find work, welders are something that are always fought over in the oilfields. You'll never not have a job as a welder, so I encourage you to keep on it.  They're quite literally what keeps the world held together.

@Oleks Good luck with the war. Stay safe and alive. That goes to everyone over there.

@Patty Thundersnow Your weather trivia was fun and interesting. Good luck in life.

@Props Valroa It was fun and interesting reading what you posted in the debate section. Good luck with the site and life.

@raykv423 I guess I'm not entirely sure why you followed me either and I didn't really get to know who you were. Good luck in life regardless.

@Silky the smol I guess its the same as above, perhaps I was just a misplaced thumb or click when "friends" were first implemented. Regardless, good luck with the site and life.

@splashee you're banned? Well....that's a strange turn of events...and...well I doubt you will see this then, but thank you for the interesting conversations, telling me my musical question had no answer, and I hope one day you get to try Root Beer aka sasparilla, or however that is spelt. Good luck in life. If he isn't banned, someone please tag him, but I swore he was a mod and it won't let me tag him which usually means that user is banned. I believe you were my first follower and the first interaction on the site too...

@SpongeBobsLittlePonydon't have a clue who you are, but have a good life.

@The Spitfire SimpAgain I don't really know who you are but have a good life.

@TheRockARooster I probably had the most interaction with you or DRS, but it was good while it lasted. Your PM isn't showing up for whatever reason, so I don't know what you said. Anyways, good luck and have a good life 'under those Southern Stars'. P.S. there's an Australian version of that Chevrolet USA song if you are feeling patriotic, along with a few other interesting jingles, such as one like "underneath those southern stars, we like meat pies, football(or was it rugby?), sunny skies, and Holden Cars". Holden was General Motors Australian division, but usually they kept pretty close to Chevrolet or GM itself.

@Tom Gallagherit was fun and interesting reading your posts, I believe it was you and TRAR who posted about daily. Good luck across the pond...if that saying is applicable on that part of the island chain, but anyways Good luck and have a good life.

@Twilight Sparkle  last but not least, thanks for the site and the year or so of exploring what I missed or didn't miss. Along with proving I wasn't insane for having the site watched by someone. Good luck in life and with your ventures. I didn't know you ran a few other forums either.

No offense intended to anyone, nor am I leaving due to anyone. I simply have that odd feeling I shouldn't be here and should go. My views align with a few of you, and I'm surprised you're here at all, but anyways, my parting note will be take a look at the .gif in my profile description of Schultz.

Also take a watch of the show too, that ain't bad.

P.S. kyoshi or whatever your name is now, we're not evil bad people. Take a shot at trying to get to know us. Please try to understand that people see the world differently and that's just the way it is. No need to be angry. Good luck in Illinois or wherever in the world you find a place to be happy.

Also whoever you were who liked debating from the U.K.: the world has different countries for a reason, we all see it differently and some things work better in some places with some people than work in other places with other people. It's just the way it is, and good luck in life too.

God Bless you all and help you. We'll all eventually meet again one day, whether we will know or recognize each other from here or not I don't know.

Signing off for now, Northern Star, with the profile picture of the 1976 Bicentennial star and the profile background of The Declaration of Independence.

P.P.S. I'm signing off the site, not life. I'm not in that kind of "leaving" mindset. Too stubborn anyways to do that. Just want to make that clear.

That's me! (I think) Now I have a similar name to you, and @Silky the smol aka Silly Wings is all confused :P

anyway, thanks for remembering me. I enjoyed our debatiness - forthrightness is a thing I value too, and you could take a bit of spice. Sad to see you go, though :( but the stable door will always be open for you, should you return, I imagine. As for your message, different countries/cultures have a lot to learn from one another - that's why it's good to have spaces like this where we can all debate while sporting silly pastel ponies :D (sadly I got kicked out the DP though, and have since safe-spaced this place, which lets me get on with my stories and get along better with the friendly ponies here, of which @Silky the smol is among the friendliest - I have moved my more debatey self to reddit, where I continue to tweak the tales of folks from all sides of the political spectrum while still sporting a pony avatar...)

ooh, I like this song :3

Reposting here for the sake of offering a proper reply. Sorry to tag you twice North Star but you know we love you

      **reposted here**

ohhh goodness! How a simple mention in this status update has caused me to question North Star's addressing me as a rather... distant.. acquaintance. I was quite confused... but now it all makes sense.

It's quite sad to see you go, honestly. I apologize for never having interacted as much as I would have liked but with so many major life events going on my activity alone has plummeted. I do appreciate your well wishes, however, and I hope the same for yourself! Please do know that you are always welcomed back.

@North Star Awww I'm sorry you got kicked out of the debate section, hopefully the new and improved one coming up shall be better to you. Both of you are more than welcomed to join once it is established. This platform has helped to unite so many people and friendships from all over the world! Whether or not you feel you've done something or a major difference, please know, you've made an impact here to someone somewhere @Northern Star.... and I don't mean @North Star (this time.. even though, yes, it does mean you too.)

Even if you can be rather spicy, which is probably where your "DP removal" came from.  You're still loved and appreciated or remembered fondly among us.

Alright, at the chance of this becoming any more long-winded than it has... please be safe! Enjoy life, and most importantly, don't forget the good times you had with people here. I'm sure they definitely remember and shall miss you.

      All the best /)

  2. Did the forum get an update or something or did the notifications just die on my end?

      Nsxile

Might be the update. I haven't had notifications for status updates for quite a long time now.

  3. Alright, what'd I miss?

There has been a pile of accounts and people related to MLP that have given some type of sign off in the last week or so. Did MLP get connected to a high profile crime again?

  4. Happy Independence Day!

246 years ago, a few people and a small fringe extremist group(some estimates as low as 0.5%) did something most though was very, very, very stupid and by its Centennial it was well on it's way to being a powerhouse and by its Bicentennial it was a powerhouse. It's a mess of different people and thoughts and when some disagree and either are told or say they'll leave, they never do, as there is one thing we all agree on: there is nothing like the USA.

It's a patchwork quilt of cultures, on a land of vast extremes, a country built by dreamers that has past their wildest dreams...

  6. If'n I may ask: what happened to the Discovery Channel?

  7. Its June 6th...

    ...which means D-Day or...

    Convoy Day!

...but just far enough away to discourage me.

  12. A day late and a dime over, we got power back again.

    1. TheRockARooster

      TheRockARooster

I'm glad you have electricity again, Gleaner. ^^

  13. If you've ever seen the show Green Acres you'll probably know about their interesting electrical system. If not here is a clip, at about the 2 to 3 minute mark it gives a decent overview of it.

Basically what we are dealing with now since the bigger generator decided after 50 years of basically no use it was time to break down.

  14. The very stupid game of circuit breaker wack a mole is getting old.

Long story short its day 3 or 4 of no power, so we're running off of generators, but they don't make perfectly clean power and North American electrical code specifies Ground Fault Interupting breakers on certain circuits, they're supposed to sense a short by measuring little tiny differences in voltages(like you getting shocked) but apparently they don't like the generator power, so they trip, the problem is important things like the refrigerator and pumps are on those circuits....so I have to basically camp out next to the breaker box...for the last 3 or 4 days...

The worst part is we could have power, but the electric company forgot to flip a breaker when they were inspecting lines, we were told, and now they don't want to send someone to flip the breaker on for 30 people

    1. ExplosionMare

      ExplosionMare

That sounds super frustrating. :unamused: I hope everything gets resolved soon.

    2. Northern Star

      Northern Star

Hope so too...I'm sick of generators now as it seems like once you get one working perfect, new or old, it dies a catastrophic death.

  15. J.I. Case (and Cummins) and International Harvester to the rescue, as usual.

The entire western half of North Dakota has no power, we finally got our wet snow that was to come last weekend...but apparently most of the linemen weren't on duty so by the time they got everyone back, it was dark and they pulled them. The lines are "galloping" and apparently after the third time they strike each other, it throws a manual reset circuit breaker.

So they'll be quite a few PTO(Power Take Off(the tractor)) generators running for the next few days here, like here.

It is a very weird snow though, not your usual wet snow, it about completely melts the instant it touches anything, but not quite and then the rest turns to ice. Its hovering right at freezing, but with 75 MPH wind forecasted (~125km/h), it won't help much.

Then on the opposite side of the state: severe storms and tornadoes, so large areas there are out of power too. Supposedly a few big lines went down over there.

    1. Kyoshi Frost Wolf

      Kyoshi Frost Wolf

That sucks, badly. Two different dangerous climates in the same states. That's a nightmare.

    2. Northern Star

      Northern Star

And now the generator has kicked out for some reason...

I mean we were overdue, last time something similar happened was around 2010, and 1997 before.

I guess for now it's just an annoyance, we'll find out after the storm just how bad it was.

  16. Prepare for clickbate about this storm!

No its not the worst ever, it ranks about 4th so far.

Things drifted like they usually do.

No the drought is not over. Most received very dry and powdery snow instead of the wet snow they were predicting.  If we got a 1/4" on average of moisture, that'd be a pretty liberal estimate.

On the flat when it was still snowing it was about 2 ft at the most. They predicted 4ft plus for us. Now it has quit snowing and the wind has continued, blowing away most of anything that has accumulated into drifts or the next county.

We did have more snow than the last 4 winters though.

The most newsworthy thing about this storm was the death of snow days. Most areas(if not all, I don't recall hearing about any that lost power yet) went to virtual learning for this, thanks to covid having built the infrastructure for it.

  17. Like every spring, they say a big storm is on the way. Estimates have already been cut in half so I guess we will see.

They were saying 40+ inches and now...24 at the absolute worst.

Hopefully there is no wind and it's slow so it actually does some good.

Ah. I suspose it is rather warm down there. Yesterday here it was in the 60s, now we're down into the 20s.

That last picture I pulled from a Minnesota meme page as...well that is basically Northern Plains forecasts in a nutshell. Many meteorologists have said if you want to always be wrong, go forcast on the Northern Plains.

On a different note, I have seen one forcast say 100 inches, but I doubt that.

Otherwise usual snowfall for us is around 130" I think, as the last big snow winter we had 200"+ records.

    3. Kyoshi Frost Wolf

      Kyoshi Frost Wolf

It currently is 67f here, at 7:03 EST.

The Northern Plains states sounds like my cup of tea honestly, maybe minus 100 inches of snow. :P I prefer the cold. Indiana weather can be very bleh, very unpredictable and back and forth.

    4. Northern Star

      Northern Star

It is 26°F currently at 6:07 Central Daylight Savings Time.

We do get the occasional tornado a few times a year. Baseball size hail is always reported at least once a year. Fargo is always in some stage of flooding(and wants the world to know about it). Last winter we had a week of 70mph wind average with gusts up to 140, according to the nws station, which the barn agreed with it's broken poles, plus a small tornado was reported in that. The snow usually either melts, settles, or blows away(to somewhere inconvenient) during the winter, so usually there is at most 5' in your yard, unless it is a snow winter, then people were recreating our famous snow photo from 1966.hq2cj8nogxi61.jpg.e8e6f941292d62807170176e22d3e9f6.jpg

I've got one of me standing on a snow bank taller than our 2 story house. Then there is the 100° days of July and August. And the bad storms of May through September. You never get rain here, you get thunderstorms, but...that's only 4 months of the year, the rest is snow or trying to snow.

It's an interesting place to live.

  18. I wonder how many will check back here due to r/place?

In a way, that rekindled or boosted my interest in this again.

  19. Not bad so far after being wiped out a few times.

    20220402_042954.jpg

  20. For anyone who doesn't know, Reddit's "r/place" is apparently coming back.

MLP had their own little piece in that, an R.D. with the C.M.'s below it.

  21. You know its spring in a rural area when everyone has the "go away" attitude lol.

  22. I hear it's time for the biannual Canadian invasion again.

Aka, the geese are back, loud as usual.

  23. Random fact of the day: Apparently the government has decided that the town I live near and the associated river are called an offensive name and must change by the summer, to one of their approved names. Which are all already in use near by. And none make sense.

Like the proposed river names, they all contain "butte" or "mountain " like "Tommy mountain ". For the river name, and yes they said that was correct, if chosen the they'll call the river the "Tommy mountain ", river not included in the name.

The town names are worse, such as "settlement 348", and "western east fork of the (chosen river name) settlement gulch" . I'm not kidding either.  Imagine saying you live in "settlement 348, next to the river called "Tommy mountain "" what type of names are those? Who thought of them?

And no, we can't chose our own new name either we were told or submit a new name.

I honestly don't understand any of this.

    2. Northern Star

      Northern Star

Worst part is no one here will call it by the new name and the government said anything addressed to the old name should be ignored, ex: the post office should discard it.

I can't wait until we have another wild fire and no one knows where is what.

It's a mess, with a name given by the group supposedly offended by it. No one here cares that it is called that.
