    Moonlight waves back at Samurai, and wonders whether his friend doesn't understand the situation, or just wants specifically Moonlight to get extra points for some reason. "Could you take care of these little guys? I can't promise things won't get messy soon." He waits for Socrate to take Moushley and fly away, before turning back to @Dusk Haven. Moonlight smiles mischievously. "Well, who am I to deny a powerful alicorn her prize? You can have it." He moves the cannon towards her. However, when she gets closer, and reaches her hoof or starts enveloping it in her magic, he points it at her and shoots muddy blast point blank, knocking her back! The mud is soft and safe enough that it shouldn't hurt even a filly, but it should buy Moonlight a couple seconds. "-if you can take it from me!" Moonlight doesn't wait to see is Dusk fell or managed to stay on her hooves. He just darts away. He knows he won't get too far, and prepares himself mentally for whatever happens next.

    Moonlight and his pursuers look confused at the sudden appearance of a forcefield. "Hey, what is it?" "That's cheating!" The ponies start shouting with indignation. Some of them noticed Shiny's shining horn, and started going towards her. It takes Moonlight a moment to realize what's happening. "Umm, Shiny? I appreciate the thought, but that most definitely counts as cheating. I'm not in any danger, and it's not like any of them can actually take the cannon away from me." "Hey!" Background pony number 324 protests, but gets promptly ignored. "You can lower the shield. No need to make it easier than it already is." Having said that, Moonlight wants to pass through the bubble, assuming it is possible from the inside, when suddenly... Moonlight happily plays along. "Aha! Dusk Haven! Finally a real challenge!" He stands on his back hooves, and points at @Dusk Haven, accidentally splashing some mud at her. "Oops. Sorry for that. Nice cannon indeed. Maybe Pinkie lets you borrow it after I give it to her." He says, hiding it behind his back.

    Moonlight makes his way through the mud, getting tired quickly from having to pull his legs out with every step. He briefly makes eye contact with @Dusk Haven, but doesn't notice her mischievous smile, as at that moment a ball of mud hits him in the flank. "Hey! Who did that?!" He turns around to fire mud projectiles blindly at ponies behind him, before moving on.

    @Samurai Equine I think you have to take the cannon away from the previous participant for it to count.

    "Huh? Hi, who are you?" Moonlight waves back at the mouse and looks up, to where she fell from. "Did you fall from the balloon? Better stay close, otherwise somepony can step on you." He stretches his wing down, so Moushley can climb onto his back. The ponies around are closing in. One of them tries to pounce on Moonlight, trying to take the cannon. Splat! Moonlight instinctively pulls the trigger, and blasts the pony with mud that found its way into the cannon when it fell. The pony lands further away, with cartoon stars circling around his head, his fall cushioned by the bog. More importantly, it creates a gap in the wall of ponies. "This way! Hold onto something!" Moonlight takes the cannon in his wings and rushes through the gap. "Ah! Dang it!" His forehooves plunge into mud, and he remembers that he took off his rain boots when pulling the cannon out of the mud. "No time to retrieve them now." Moonlight thinks as he continues running.

    Moonlight looks up just as the cannon falls relatively close to him, and he immediately makes his way towards it. He has to take boots off his forelegs to grab it and yank it out of the mud, almost losing his balance in the process. "Got it!" He says, before noticing ponies around him slowly approaching, some holding mud balls, or preparing to pounce, ready to take his treasure away, to score some points for themselves. "Back off!" He says, aiming the empty cupcake cannon at them. "I won't go down without a fight!"

    Still confused about his recent encounter, Moonlight doesn't notice the bog until his boots sink into the mud. He quickly pulls them out and takes a look around. Going around is not an option - the path is way too long, and leaves in the next next section would've been long gone before he would reach them. He takes a minute to look where other ponies go, and carefully follows those who don't sink too much. So far, it isn't that deep, and he has a faint hope that he can reach the other side with a clean coat.

  13. Moonlight Wane
    The light leads Moonlight to the second mushroom field, pointing at yet another light. And then another, and another. Looking back, he doesn't see the previous ones anymore. He's forced to continue onward. Eventually, the mushrooms direct him to what turns out to be a singular light source. It looks like a huge, pony-sized mushroom, until it turns to face Moonlight. The bat pony gets startled when he sees that it is actually a pony, with a mushroom cap on his head, with a staff in his hoof, his body glowing just like the mushrooms that guided him here. "Ooh he he he! Little bat is lost! Lost he is!" He says, pointing his staff at Moonlight. "Umm, I am a little lost. Who are you?" The bat pony takes a step back, not sure what to expect. "I am the shroomite of this forest! I know all trees and leaves! Bugs and birds! Entrances and exits! I know this forest! And the forest knows me!" He gestures around, pirouetting with his staff. "And I can share this knowledge, I can!" He points at some bushes, and they spread out, revealing blinding, natural sunlight on the other side, forcing Moonlight to cover his eyes. "Go on, little bat, go! Fulfill your destiny! Your destiny is to go, mine is to stay! And if fate allows, come visit again!" Moonlight goes through the bushes, finally emerging on the less dense part of the forest. Looking up, he can see the sky and the balloon with Pinkie and Starlight. He turns back to thank the weird mushroom pony, but the bushes are gone, and no light can be seen through the darkness of the forest left behind. Scratching his head filled with unanswered questions, Moonlight continues on, towards the next obstacle.

    Moonlight just looks as Samurai knocks out and runs off with Shiny. He's about to follow them, when he sees another light, seemingly closer than the first one. He hesitates, not knowing whether he should go towards it or follow his friends. "It's not like they know where they are going. This way could be shorter." He trots towards the light. As he gets closer, it turns out to be not one, but many little lights, glowing blue. They turn out to be weird, long mushrooms, growing on trees. When Moonlight stops next to them, they all lean to one side, as if pointing at something with their caps. Moonlight looks in that direction, and sees another blue light. He looks back to see if anypony is following him, but he can't see them in the darkness. Shrugging, he goes towards the next light source.

    Wzipp! The last teleportation conveniently moves Moonlight beyond the thorny path, where he can continue onwards. He doesn't run for long before passing the last cupcake and entering the darkest part of the forest. Moonlight holds his own hoof in his other hoof. "Oh." He releases his hoof, hoping nopony saw that, and approaches Shiny. "You trust that light? Do you know what makes it?" He tries to look into it, but the surroundings are too dark to see the source.

    Moonlight waits for his effect to run out, before untying the pony trapped in vines. "Here you go. Take some berries. They should help you get out of here." Having said that, he finds a new target, and pops another berry into his mouth. Wzipp! He teleports next to @Iridescent Edge, with a flash of otherworldly, purple sparks. "Oh! Hi there. Wanna help us get these ponies out? You just eat the-" wzipp! Moonlight teleports to @Shiny Silvermoon, just as her moonerang returns to her hoof, dangerously close to his head. "-berries and- whoa! What was that? I think it cut my hair. Anyway," he turns to Iridescent. "They give you a random magical effect. Try-" wzipp! Moonlight pops into existence next to a mare trapped in a thorny bush. Tiny spikes are wrapped tight around her leg, and moving it causes her pain. "-it out! Oh. Oh my, it looks painful. Don't move, let me help." As she mutters a quiet "okay", he grabs her leg, and tries to see how deep in the bush is it trapped. Wzipp! Moonlight and the mare materialize back next to other contestants, safe and sound, with him still awkwardly holding her leg.

    Moonlight listens as the pony talks about the berries. "Hmm. Sure, why not?" He grabs a bunch of berries and eats one. It only takes a moment for his body to become transparent and wobbly. "Whoa. Is it normal?" He moves his hooves, and sees droplets fly in every direction. "Oh, great. I'm water! And I thought I would run the rest of the race relatively dry." Moonlight walks right through the plants towards the closest pony. The bat pony doesn't feel pain as thorns scratch his liquid body, and can pass through leaves and vines with ease. "Hey there! Let me help you." He approaches the pony who's tangled in vines and tries to untie them, but his watery hooves don't want to hold onto anything. "Oops. I guess we have to wait a moment for the effect to run out." He says as he looks around, pondering who to free next.

    A solitary cupcake bounces off Moonlight's head, before a path of sweet treats emerges among the trees. "Oh. That makes things easier." He says as he starts following it, keeping close to the group.

    "I wouldn't have it any other way, Samurai-san. Lead the way. I will be behind you, scanning the shadows for dangers or lost participants."

    Moonlight looks into the woods, his bat eyes piercing darker corners of the forest with ease. "Most of them are already hidden by trees, but I can still see some. Looks like everypony follows whoever's in front of them, so they all should be forming a line. I'm guessing those in the lead must be lost and freezing, so we should be able to catch up with them, as long as we keep warm. If everypony's ready, I'm good to go."

    "Aaa! Shiny! When did you get here? Also hi, nice to see you." He looks at the map. "Hmm. So it was a mistake. I knew Dyny wouldn't do something like that on purpose." "Thank you, Dusk. I'm sure we can count on these ponies if anything happens." "2,000 years? Oh, right. I forgot how long alicorns live. Still, I don't know any other alicorn who has been around for so long, not counting the Princesses." He turns his attention back to the map. "Anyway, staying close together is a good idea. Maybe we should press forward until we find a gap in the canopy, so we can hear if Starlight and Pinkie have anything to say. I was thinking about turning back, but some participants have already gone further into the forest. We can't just leave them. And speaking of leaving, I wonder where Titanium is." "Oh, absolutely. I would never deny Samurai a hug."
