general How often do you check your email?
KPackratt replied to ExplosionMare's topic in General Discussion
I check my main email account every day whenever I get an email notification on my phone. I don't check my other two email accounts often as they're not used for important stuff nowadays.- 34 replies

Hello there. Nice to see another retro gaming enthusiast here. I do have a few LaserDiscs, but no player ATM. Since those discs are titles I already own on DVD, I'm in no rush to get a LaserDisc player. You have a pretty nice console collection. I should post a photo of mine someday. I've even modified some of my consoles to output better video formats than they normally would (NESRGB for example).

How Many Years have past since G4
KPackratt replied to TheUnknownPhantom5's topic in MLP Generation 5 (G5)
If that terminology applied to G4, then Sunset Shimmer would be in her forties considering the portal to the Human World was open once every 30 moons (before Twilight opened it permanently) and she moved there on the previous opening cycle. Sunset being a few decades older than the rest of the Canterlot High students and even her friends would be a pretty peculiar situation. I'd say the definition of "moons" was changed somehow in the generation that followed it. -
Hasbro's plans for G5 in March 2024 have apparently failed
KPackratt replied to FirePuppy's topic in MLP Generation 5 (G5)
If they actually went through with debuting the G5 cartoons on linear television, I wonder what channel they would've picked to air them on. Could you imagine if Discovery Family decided to air MLP G5? Considering the actions caused by the WB Discovery merger and how they've held most of G4 hostage from streaming (until recently when KiDoodleTV picked it up), there'd probably be an outrage. Plus their contract with Hasbro will expire next year, so there wouldn't be a lot of time for them to air G5 (plus it could also cause an incentive to renew the contract again, which could be a bad thing). -
If you could change anything you want within MLP
KPackratt replied to Conbon's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
In my opinion, most of the episodes from seasons 6-7 felt like filler content to the point where they were tedious to watch. Had they made some of those episodes 11-minutes long instead of 22, they probably would've worked better. I know Lauren Faust originally intended for FIM to have 11-minute long episodes, but that was changed during development of the third episode in the series. It would've been nice to know what Rainbow Blaze's relationship is with Rainbow Dash. For those who may have forgotten, he's the rainbow maned stallion who accompanied Rainbow Dash at the Equestria Games in the flashback scene from "Games Ponies Play". It was confirmed that he wasn't her father, contrary to what fans believed prior to the release of "Parental Glideance". Was he her uncle? Her older brother? Her cousin? I guess we'll never know for certain. I'm a little embarrassed to mention this, but since the OP said that you could mention any idea no matter how crazy it may be, I guess now would be a good time to set this one free. For some odd reason, I've always wanted to see Rainbow Dash eat an egg sandwich in either a Friendship is Magic episode or an Equestria Girls cartoon (maybe both). I figured since we've seen her eat sandwiches at least a few times in the cartoons, and we've seen Rarity and Sweetie Belle serve fried eggs in "Sisterhooves Social" confirming that ponies eat eggs, it would be the perfect thing for Rainbow Dash to eat for breakfast. She did eat a breakfast burrito in the Pinkie Pie ending for the Equestria Girls CYOE short "Wake-Up!", so I guess it kinda happened, albeit not exactly how I imagined it. -
I sourced my current avatar from the Fluttershy ending for the MLP:EG CYOE short "The Road Less Scheduled". I thought the shocked Twilight Sparkle face was funny, so I figured it should be my avatar here.

I'm currently a Windows user. I've tried switching to Mac computers, but each time I did I ended up going back. The biggest issue I have with Macs is that you can no longer upgrade the hardware in them (for example: If you need to upgrade the RAM or storage capacity, you have to buy a new computer because Apple soldered those components directly to the motherboard). For this reason, I refuse to buy an M1/2/3 Mac unless Apple decides to make them serviceable again. Windows does have its problems (mainly telemetry and unwanted software being automatically installed at times), but there are ways to turn those off. As someone who does creative work, Linux would be a bit of a hassle for me to try to convert to using as a daily driver.

gaming Do you keep or sell your old consoles?
KPackratt replied to joanro's topic in Media Discussion
I keep all of my old game consoles. The only time I sell or get rid of one nowadays is either if it's broken in a way that I can't repair or if I have too many of the same system. A year after my family got a Wii, I got rid of my old GameCube because the Wii was backwards compatible. My launch revision PS2 had a broken disc drive, so I ended up getting rid of it and replacing it with a later revision one (still the Fat model though). I used to have a late revision Original XBOX, but its disc drive stopped working and replacement drives were hard to find, so I bought another Original XBOX and ended up donating the broken one to a thrift store. -
gaming What Video Game levels/bosses make you rage?
KPackratt replied to Moon Rat's topic in Media Discussion
The final Bowser boss battle in New Super Mario Bros. 2. Just when you thought you defeated him at first, he comes back to life, grows giant, then destroys the stage. That was infuriating for a bit. There are other games with hard moments that made me feel like rage quitting, but this was the only one I could think of at the moment. -
Some time around late-2011 or early-2012, I started noticing people using MLP avatars on the websites I visited (mainly YouTube and a few forums that I don't remember), I also saw a clip from the show used in an AVGN YTP. I didn't watch a full episode until 2013 when someone was talking about it non-stop on a forum I used to visit, I also thought the MLP character designs looked cute, which was one of the main reasons why I got into the cartoons.

Seasons 8 and 9 haven't been released on DVD, at least outside of Asia from what I've heard (may or may not be legit). Those seasons are available on digital storefronts (iTunes/Apple TV and Amazon Video), which isn't great considering the risks of purchasing digital media, but it's better than nothing. Maybe one day the complete series will get a Blu-ray release, possibly to tie in with the 15th anniversary next year. It would be great to own the series physically in HD.

Do you decorate your personal belongings with MLP?
KPackratt replied to yey_17's topic in General Discussion
The side panel of my computer has two MLP stickers (a Rainbow Dash sticker and a Pinkie Pie sticker) from one of my MLP coloring books, I also have a Pinkie Pie mouse pad on my desk. My phone currently has an Equestria Girls lock screen and Awesome As I Wanna Be as my ringtone. -

technology Ever Use A Beta Max Or Laser Disc Player?
KPackratt replied to Denim&Venöm's topic in Media Discussion
I have a Sony Betamax VCR. I forgot the model number, it has Hi-Fi stereo and can only record in BII and BIII speeds (equivalent to VHS LP and SLP/EP speeds respectively). It was one of my lucky thrift store finds from about 5 years ago. I also bought a Toshiba HD DVD player from a Goodwill thrift store not long afterwards. I have three Betamax tapes: Disney's Davy Crockett, In Search of a Golden Sky, and a blank Sony L-750 cassette which I've recorded some random stuff on when I play with the VCR on rare occasions. I also have a blank 1/2" open reel video tape (sometimes referred to as the EIAJ format) that I found at my local electronics recycling center about a year or two ago. I don't have a machine that uses it, but I believe the oldest deck that uses that kind of tape is a Sony CV-2000, which dates back to 1965! I currently don't have a LaserDisc player (haven't been able to afford one, nor do I have the room to store one at the moment), but I do have a few LaserDiscs: A Christmas Story, Jaws 2, and the complete series of Fawlty Towers. -

I could see Disney Channel or Universal Kids as possible candidates for acquiring the rights to those programs after Discovery Family decides that they're done with them, considering those two channels aired My Little Pony: The Movie back in 2020. Though if they pick Disney Channel/Junior to be the new home for MLP G4 cartoons, I hope they don't take the home video distribution rights (or worse yet, attempt to buy Hasbro) because I'd really like to see Friendship is Magic get a complete series Blu-ray release, and we know how Disney doesn't like to release TV shows to disc. Either way, it would also be nice if FIM Seasons 5-9 (and Pony Life) returned to streaming.

I have no idea why Shout Factory haven't released any new My Little Pony DVDs since 2019. My theories are: A - They had a 10-year contract with Hasbro for new releases of their content, and rather than renew the contract, they decided to just let it run its course (possible considering their first MLP DVD release was Twinkle Wish Adventure, which came out in 2009 - 10 years prior to their final FIM DVD release). or B - When Hasbro renewed their contract with Discovery Family, part of the renewal deal was that Shout Factory could no longer release any more MLP DVDs. Again, none of these are confirmed, they are only theories. Either way, I hope for either Shout Factory to regain the physical distribution rights or Discotek to purchase those rights. I would love to see MLP:FIM get a complete Blu-ray release for its 15th anniversary (or at the very least, seasons 8-9 and the two specials on DVD).

The anti-adblock update and the occasional breakage it causes. I don't want to sit through a ton of ads and I'm not paying for YouTube Premium, given the amount of bad things YouTube has done made me uncomfortable with me giving them my money. The COPPA update (though we already know about that and the issues it caused). False channel terminations and strikes. Videos getting taken down out of nowhere.

The worst video game that I can remember playing has to be Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 for the XBOX 360. My mom bought me that game back in 2016 because she knew I had a collection of Tony Hawk games, I gave it a try since I figured it would be good, but boy was I mistaken. I had a tough time getting past the Tutorial level because the controls were a wreck, once I did manage to advance to the actual game, it wouldn't let me play the first level because of a network connection issue. Never touched that game since then and ended up donating my copy to my local Goodwill store.
