  1. are any cats involved? all hail joojcat! sorry, find no reason to repeat what DusK's already asked. Just had to make an OCR joke.
  2. I'm not so sure, I abuse the favorites button on Soundcloud
  3. There's a reason for that: when you're in soundcloud, any url that is specifically "you" /soundcloud/you/tracks is only visible by you when you sign in. If I follow that link, the page will load with MY tracks, not yours. Instead, what you might want to try is http://www.soundcloud.com/(your username here) for instance, my page would be http://www.soundcloud.com/anoraxofficialmusic, and if the grand benevolent overlord Feld0 had a soundcloud page, it'd probably be www.soundcloud.com/Feld0 As for specific suggestions, I don't really have any, at least right off the bat. We'll see what you have so far and go from there.
  4. Someone's already said it, but yes. Soundcloud uses "favorites", but they function the same as likes. there's no need for a duplicate system.

    Song of the Month

what would qualify as "song of the month"? The "top song" of the month, staff pick of the month, etc.?
  6. ooh, new pill nav. Too bad there's no keyword search function. Oh, what if you added a tag system for tracks that allow the artist to apply custom tags to their tracks? This way a keyword search can be added. This can be used if someone wants to search for songs that have been tagged with "luna" or "twilight", or if they want to search for a keyword within a track title. EDIT: Screenshot time! Small mobile issue, it seems. Screenshot here, apparently I can't post as a straight image. Android 2.2 Gingerbread, device is Samsung YP-G1. page is zoomed out as far as default browser will allow. The dropdown menu of the various search criteria is clipped on the left page margin as shown here. EDIT 2: It seems that this is not an issue on the iPhone. weird.

    Pony.fm Mascot

Hey guys, have we decided on the official mascot of Pony.FM, or if there even is one? If so, will it be an OC or one of the show's characters, main or background?
  8. I intend to upload all of my future pony music to PFM - unless it's something that would be considered album-exclusive and such
  9. Alright, let's get this ball rolling.
  10. I feel as if this thread needs a good solid BUMP I'm leaning towards option three. Now, guys, this is especially important, not only from an artist's perspective but also from the perspective of our resident alpha listeners as well.
  11. Here's my (rather fancy) idea for the notification system GUI, which can be compatible with real-time notifications, but not dependent on them. Ok, so! This is a four-image progression to help explain my idea. You begin with no (new?) notifications. Notifications will follow you around as a dropdown system built into the navbar, using this icon (as per the current Pony.FM design) When you get a notification, the icon becomes correctly colored, and has a notification image showing you the TOTAL number of notifications. In my case, one. Clicking on the active (or Notif_Yes state as I named it while designing) icon will open a dropdown menu, consisting of only two icons, as well as a further-detailed notification count. In my case, one notification for content. Now, here's where it gets weird, because I don't know how to go from here. Somehow or another (click?), you get this panel, which details your new content notifications. In this case, I have one new album, which is displayed in the format of · Artist - Album title ... ...timestamp > At this point, you can click to go right to the content that the notification references, or you can go to the notification page to view all notifications. It's a similar idea for the new tracks, and the Feedback notification types (or type singular if you're not an artist?). One thing I just thought about though is using mouseover to navigate most of this panel. Mouse over notification icon to open dropdown, hold mouse over one of the icon types, and then the only click you have to make is on either the notification itself or the "show all" button. What do you think? EDIT: I also made an animated GIF to go with it, but I couldn't get it to embed properly, so DusK did it for me thanks DusK. Don't know why I couldn't get the GIF to embed properly.
  12. the current design is this which matches the current layout 0% Feld0 says that it's fully customizable, so... ideas on what the BB embed should look like?
  13. namely, this one: the dropdown menus won't reposition themselves in regard to window size, and if your computer's display isn't big enough, the furthermost menu (the username menu) will be partially cut off as shown above. Please note that there is no horizontal scrollbar shown when in fullscreen HOWEVER, if you are viewing the page in a cascaded window, there is a horizontal scrollbar, and the dropdown menus are off-screen, still distanced according to the draw distance set up by the maximum page size (fullscreen mode). But, when you click on the far right dropdown menu, the page extends slightly to allow for the dropdown (which would normally go off screen) until it is closed. EDIT: by "fullscreen" I mean the window is maximized. I don't mean fullscreen as in F11 Whoops, should have posted to the bug tracker.
  14. Once again, this notion is seconded. IF you have any concerns or ideas about this, please head on over to this thread where there is more detailed info on this idea for you to read through and contribute to if you feel so inclined.
  15. I personally don't mind the Soundcloud notification system. I don't know how familiar you are with it, but I don't mind it at all. Although it seems that the main concern right now is how to set up a "read notification" system. Now as for your diagram Bohtty, is that the intended GUI design, or just a simple proof-of-concept mockup?

    Auto login.

THIS. While this is sometimes handled by your browser without anything being controlled server-side (in some rare cases), it would still be nice to have this built into PFM

  18. what if you move the "newest tracks" page to the /discover directory? I dunno, a bit out of ideas right now. EDIT: yeah, I think that might work. What if you move the /track page to the now-empty /discover directory and have /top and /random on top of that? of course that returns directly to my original idea (which is kind of the point). However, as you said Feld0 there would need to be some additions to the /tracks page if it were to be moved to /discover, as well as a possible HTTP redirect script to bounce any lost souls that may stumble across the plain /tracks page over to the new /discover page.
  19. in other words, there might be another pony.fm beta to troubleshoot this idea later on?
  20. absolutely. although you did mention once something along the lines of each album having it's own upload page. what if. the songs that are uploaded directly into the album-specific uploader aren't published until the album is, but you can still "link" songs to albums (like it's currently set up)? this way, songs uploaded directly into an unpublished album are published with the album, and songs that are linked into the album are treated as single tracks until the album is published, then the correct tags and whatnot are put in place? if that doesn't make sense let me know
  21. Splintering off of an idea mentioned in this (now locked) thread: http://mlpforums.com/topic/47220-option-to-delete-albums/ What if albums were unpublished by default and could be published at a later date? (Websites like Bandcamp does this, mostly by allowing you to "Save Draft") THis could be useful if you're compiling an album and it's about 90% complete except for that ONE song that that ONE collaborator just isn't finished with yet, but you want to go ahead and upload what IS finished anyway, but set the 90% as unpublished so all you have to do is upload that one last song when it's finished and click "publish" and voila! Album is published, and everyone is none the wiser. I would add diagrams, but are they really needed here? unles you want som comic sons

    Data Wipe

While I couldn't really care either way, I am leading towards the wipe. I personally don't have much to reupload anyway if the server was to be wiped of song data. If I had more music to feed into the site, I might be more protective of it, but I don't really care either way. Although dealing with all these test tracks could be time consuming if we don't do a music wipe (we'll still have to wipe the statistics though to prevent public beta stat skews)
  23. Well, here's what could be done. Because it appears that an album has to be made and designated before any songs can be added, you may want to go ahead and add an option where the artist can upload album cover art from the get-go. Then, as they upload new songs and say that song X will be a part of album X, there can be a code in place that automatically applies the album cover art to the track, unless the artist uploads artwork for the track itself. So basically, the album artwork is applied to all tracks on the album by default, but this can be overridden by tracks that have seperate cover art uploaded. (ugh, grammatical errors that I don't know how to fix at 1:30 AM) I would make a diagram to help explain this, but it's 1:30 AM and I need sleep. EDIT: Diagam. I maed one. Track three already has a cover art for it. Track 1 and 2 does not. Therefore, these two tracks by default will display the album art on their individual pages. Track three will display it's own artwork on its individual page.

    Suggestions

Yeah, we've noticed some issues with the home page, especially when it comes to shrinking your browser window - then all sorts of overlapping text happens. (I think this happens when you take down the width of the page display to around 700-800 pixels? I don't know. I'd have to screenshot it and use a pixel count. To be honest, there's a lot that you've brought up about the fine details that I think a lot of people have overlooked. I know I have. Some of these suggestions have been brought up before, at least I think number 6 has... But at least that means that a lot of people would notice if it WASN'T a feature! :-D
