Games: Positive Influence?

So I've been playing a lot of Persona 4 Golden.

It's great game and I mostly enjoy the characters, story and writing. Some of it is just hilarious XD

But sometimes, very serious.

Anyway, for those unaware with Persona 4 (Golden), in the game, you need to be kind to others to make friends to make it easier on yourself in battles.

This can be going out with them, helping them out and sometimes a heart to heart talk. And if respected, these friends would appreciate and form stronger bonds with you. (and again, make it easier when you are battling monsters. I won't go too much into detail about that)

It made me wonder though. Ever since playing this game, I've been trying to be more kind towards others and be a better friend. It ain't always easy, but the feeling of appreciation is something I believe anyone likes. The fact that you made that other person feel better and you feel better for it.

I know it sounds, how would one call it, pansy? But just like when I first joined this fanbase, I feel I'm more outgoing because of Persona 4. Else I wouldn't be typing this forum for people I don't even know.

Still, I'm curious.

Do you think that games can have a positive influence like this? (and ignore any spelling mistakes you might have seen :P )

I think video games are as good of an influence as any other entertainment medium. With enough variety you learn things, it improves your mental capacities and in the case of video games you also get some physical abilities as well.

I know people who have learned how to read through video games because they wanted to know what was being said in RPGs. There's studies out there that prove that people who play video games have better dexterity, reaction times and hand-eye coordination.

Video games are the ultimate form of entertainment.

Anyone played Far Cry 3? *sigh* I really had to question my character's life choices....

Anyway, I think video games are a wonderful thing. Whether you use them to take out rage, spend time with friends, or save the (electronic) world, They almost always make a good difference in people's lives.

I know I wouldn't be who I am without Ace Combat.

I think Video games can have plenty of positive effects, in fact it's been tested before scientifically, so really it's not a thought, but actually been proven atleast to an extent.

Of course to much of anything can have adverse effects to, but that doesn't mean that there aren't positive effects to video games.

The media sometimes just likes to put drama in and make Video games seem terrible, when they aren't.

Games certainly have positive influences. At the very least keeping a bored person happy, but sometimes leaving a positive impact like any good media would. It's a marvelous thing indeed. :)

And as with GTA & other violent games, it makes people less violent because they get to take it out on the game.   :)

I whole-heartedly agree with this.  99.999% of sane people who play GTA are not going to go out and *ehem* "shoot up some hoes" etc...

On the other hand, insane people might.  But in those cases, it wouldn't be due to GTA - it'd be due to their inherent insanity.
