So since 42's last post I've posted 6 times and my last post is 11, Zachary has posted 5 times and his last post is 10.

6 x 11 from me is 66

5 x 10 from him is 50

66 + 50 = 116

 

The digits of 116 add to what the digits of 42 multiply to and vice versa.

1 + 1 + 6 = 8

4 x 2 = 8

1 x 1 x 6 = 6

4 + 2 = 6

 

And now a question for 42: there are only 2 combinations of numbers that work that way with the number 42, what is the other one?

(I'm talking combinations not permutations, so 161 and 611 don't count)

I would like to ask a clarification question: are the combinations of numbers 3 digits long or can they be any length, and do you include 0 as one of your digits or do you only work with digits 1 - 9? I just did some quick mathing with the assumption that the combinations are 3 digits long and the number 0 excluded and found that 116 was the only combination that worked under those conditions; no other possibility exists.

 

I don't have the time to properly solve this question yet. It took me about 20 minutes of working trying to find another 3-digit combination to show that no such combination exists (unless I made a mistake, which is quite possible). As a busy uni student, I don't have that much time to dedicate to things like this, especially if I want to actually catch up on all the comments here. But rest assured, I will return to this problem once I have the time! This problem you posed is very interesting!

So... Did I just get dethroned twice? I'm not too sure whether that should count. You basically just disarmed the trap guarding my throne, rearmed it, and disarmed it again. But then again, you had to spend one of your hard-earned 42 Coupons to do it, so it would be cruel to take that from you.

Coupons subtract 2 but you only took one away. I assume you're using the post to use a coupon, not to disarm a trap, so you wouldn't also raise the count by one for a net change of -1.

See, this is why we're doing the testing. Now we found an issue we need to fix.

 

I'm a (somewhat) benevolent overlord, so how about we put these issues to a vote? For both of the issues below, whichever option is the most popular will be what the rule shall be from now on! Or if you think there's a third, better way of approaching them, feel free to suggest that too.

2. When using the coupon, should the user get their usual contribution to the count added to the changed total (effectively resulting in a net choice between -1 or +3) or should they not get to do so (resulting in a choice between -2 or +2)?

1: I just did it to see what you would say haha but if you need a lore to it then you could say that we found a blueprint or a portal to you next layer? 

2:I don't know? using a coupon to move forword an additional space seems a bit pointless unless you do it at 41 to make sure you get the dethrone but still, however it seem's like it would be a little redundant only going back once aswel so maybe you can get +3 to represent you working hard or back -2 to represent you not disarming a trap at all but what not? so what I suggest is either +3 or -2?

I have no idea how, but I never heard of Shogi before. But I looked it up, and it seems really interesting! If you don't mind playing a complete beginner who barely knows the rules of the game and probably won't be able to reply as frequently as Trottermare and Not Lyra are, then I'm game! At least once I teach myself the rules.
