Rarity Paige Belle 1,854 July 21, 2014 Share July 21, 2014 (edited) Hasbro have authorised a company called Shapeways to work with 4 artists to create fan merch! What do you think? http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/129990-hasbro-okays-artists-to-design-and-sell-3d-printed-toy-art-for-fans-on-shapeways Edited July 21, 2014 by Rarity Paige Belle Beautiful, Stylish, Fabulous AND evil! Fhaolan 4,484 July 21, 2014 Share July 21, 2014 I believe Shapeways was the company that Hasbro C&D'ed awhile back, but I could be wrong. If so, it looks like rather than just giving up, Shapeways did something interesting and came back with a counteroffer, a "what do we need to do to get this to work' kind of thing. At the moment, the range is limited to very specific artists, so Hasbro is trying to apply some form of quality control there, which makes sense. Another thing to throw into the discussion is that Hasbro is supposedly working on producing a simple 3D printer of their own, with the intent of putting it next to products like the Easy Bake Oven and similar things. It wouldn't surprise me to find out that they intend to sell 'patterns', including MLP ones, specifically geared to that toy printer.
StitchandMLPlover 930 July 21, 2014 Share July 21, 2014 That's pretty darn amazing if you ask me! Seems like a fantastic idea for Hasbro! My short independent films about physical disability! http://cripvideoproductions.tumblr.com
Antismurf9001 1,271 July 21, 2014 Share July 21, 2014 (edited) I believe Shapeways was the company that Hasbro C&D'ed awhile back, but I could be wrong. If I remember correctly, it wasn't exactly Shapeways that they C&D'd rather than it was artists that were on Shapeways (wasn't Hashbro one of the more popular ones that got shut down, or am I thinking of something different?). In any case, I consider this to be awesome news. In any case, I consider this to be awesome news. That might very well be true, I wasn't able to find any reference to the C&D anywhere anymore, as my search results were full of this newer news and I'm having trouble sorting it out. So I was going purely off of memory.
Ashen Pathfinder 16,161 July 21, 2014 Share July 21, 2014 Excellent news! Nice to see companies being somewhat open-minded at least. So, can we finally drop these ridiculous stories of Hasbro being an evil, soulless corporation? M'aiq the Liar 5,804 July 21, 2014 Share July 21, 2014 This is pretty awesome news to see after the large amount of fan uproar over the companies issues with youtube videos and animations. A question I would like to know the answer to, is Hasbro making royalties off these figures? If they are that could be a large part of their reason for allowing it. But if it is for a capitalist reason or not, it is great to see them take 3D printing seriously enough to allow this. And it is great to see them support some of their fans. 1 http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/vera-yeoman-r5921Muh pleb tier OC .http://mlpforums.com/blog/1663/entry-12477-pony-waifu-wedding-13-maiq-x-fleetfoot/ MLP forum's #1 Fleetfoot fan also married to fleetfoot <
The Crimson Cross 7,532 July 21, 2014 Share July 21, 2014 Well this is certainly interesting, I daresay it opens up a whole new dimension to MLP Fanart. Hasbro isn't as bad as a lot of people claim the company to actually be, in truth from what it seems they are just doing what they must to protect their intellectual property. I think it'd be a good thing if Hasbro and the MLP fans have a mutual exchange where on one side we make fan art, and the other is that MLP is more promoted. It's a win-win situation if you ask me. But enough of that seriousness, I'm looking forward to some of the other works of art! Now with more added tea leaves! Wind Chaser 4,768 July 21, 2014 Share July 21, 2014 The article calling Rainbow Dash "Rainbow Dragon". But that doesn't discount that this is awesome news, however. I'm glad to see Hasbro being on the side of progress for once.
