Celestia is getting to old for this.

I can't believe people are liking the idea of Celestia dying!

First of all, it's a kids show. At best, Celestia would just disappear. And I don't know how they'd pull that off without ever addressing it or making it a big deal. Not to mention all the traumatized kids and angry parents reacting to it...

Secondly, shame on you for wishing death on someone?

I know it's just a fictional character we're talking about it, but even so, I feel like people should be ashamed of themselves for EVER thinking that killing someone is a good idea. If it was necessary to happen for the sake of the plot or the characters or whatever, that's fine. But let the writers and creators of the show decide that. That's not for us to decide. I know there are head canons, fanfics, etc. I'm not trying to censor anyone! But I feel like most people who make that stuff aren't trying to push an agenda or anything. They are just doing it because they want to, but they know fans like those characters, so they wouldn't try to change the show or anything.

Also, there are still fans of Celestia out there, so I doubt killing Celestia off would make them happy.

Luna has come back, and from I can tell, the two of them share in their duties again. Celestia doesn't have to face the hard work of being a princess alone anymore. :)

If Celestia dies. I'd make a bit after the credits that shows us it was a fake created by the Mirror Pool.

Now that the populace think she is dead, she can go burn the changling kingdom to ashes with impunity.... Hail Dark Celestia! XD

Simmer down sugarcube no need to get all riled up. I want you to know that I actually like Celestia as a character and I am sure many commenters here do. However there is such a thing as death in childrens fiction and it serves its purpose.

Are you angered at disney for killing every main characters parents ever? Maybe you boycotted Harry Potter after a few characters were killed off? These characters were not bad and people liked them and yet they passed on. Its reality and something even magical Alicorns face.

I understand your confusion but it is episodes like these that would make Mlp all the greater and more meaningful.

I'm not angry, at the shows or anything. Just understand that talking about death is one of my sensitive triggers. I don't like death. It's a sad thing. Good things don't come from it. We grieve, move on, and get stronger only because we have to, not because we want to.

And I'm not angry at the shows either. Like I said, if the creators of it want to do that, fine. It's their show, let them tell the stories they want to tell, let them build up the characters however they want to. All I am saying is, it's their show, not ours. It's nice that they acknowledge us and maybe give us fanservice sometimes, but it's still their show.

The answer to her troubles is the New Lunar Republic.

It's simple; she hands over all control of Equestria to Luna, and she'll revolutionize all of the land for the greater good!

In reality, perhaps. Celestia stepping down could definitely bring us a good storyline (but it'll likely make Twilight the new ruler then, which would somewhat.....welp, I can't see that. It was hard enough at first for people to accept her as an alicorn). But then what would happen to Celestia?

I don't think Celestia is getting too old for this... well, if she is, I don't know who would be a better replacement. Luna could likely manage raising the sun, but probably not leading Equestria...

I think having 4 princesses, with Twilight as the Princess of Friendship (reestablishing that her friends will help her) lessons Celestia's role. She's not alone anymore and the burden is not her's alone. The question is really what do the writers think? We don't know, but we can extrapolate from what they've done so far and it appears that they like the idea of all four princesses being vital.

Princess Twilight Sparkle: Princess of Friendship

Princess Luna: Princess of the Night

I don't think Celestia looks too old. Maybe equivalent to a human woman in her 40s at most. Besides, who would take over then? Twilight is the newest princess, so as far as seniority goes, she's still behind the others. Luna's Micro Series issue is proof that she isn't quite up to the job. Maybe Cadence would be an ideal successor, but she would be apart from Shining Armor even more than she already is. I do kind of picture Celestia as a Dumbledore type character, but I don't think she should be killed off. A flashback of Applejack's parents might be a better idea for a death episode.

She's probably not too far from dying. I mean, how many thousands of years does she have?

Only one.

I believe she's over 1000 years old.

I am pretty convinced that she is immortal. So old, and yet ,she looks so young.

She does not seem tired at all. What the OP said about her failures was not due to age but pure incompetence.

The reason for that being that she is not the main character of the show and therefore, it's up to the main characters to save the day and not to Princess Celestia (although, they could have made that less obvious).

In fact, Princess Celestia highly annoys me for that matter. She is portrayed as a super powerful Alicorn and yet, everytime Equestria is threatened, she either

1) Sits back and enjoys the show.

2) Tries to do something and then fails.

(A bit like the wonderbolts, I should  say).

I hate this.

But it's true.

I don't think that it's intentional though. I have the feeling that the writers in the show just don't know what to do with her. She went from an awesome benevolent autocrat to an useless piece of uselessness in the span of these four seasons, when she can't defeat an important foe, doesn't seem to know what is happening in her lands, doesn't even serve as a quest-giver anymore, and trusts the wrong individuals with important tasks.

Spoiler for next season...

It gets worse if you see the animatics for next season opener

The fan interpretations of her are a lot better than what the writers even try to do with her.

I know that she is given an actual reason for her continued existence in the Journal of the Two Sisters, but I don't see it in the show. I'm not asking for much. Just something that shows that she is at least intelligent and concerned about her subjects. Luna at least is taking care of their dreams.

For dumb, self-important fics about mythology, ponies and fascist griffons that can't figure friendship out.

And I'm just getting started.
