Most REAL trolls nowadays just do it for the laughs, or at least with my opinion. For example, Remi Gaillard is a pretty good troll. So's the Mega64 group. Of course, all in my opinion. The troll is hoping for the "victims" reaction to be something like: "Oh you got me!" or something Asshole Trolling: Usually people trying to hurt others feelings.
