movies/tv Star Wars Rebels

So, Disney starts releasing something on its own.

Star Wars Rebels is an animated series made by Lucasfilm and LucasArts animation. It takes place 14 years after Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and 5 years before Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Also, judging by wikipedia it will be about Galactic Empire hunting down remaining jedi knights and about beginning of rebellion known from old trilogy.

That also means that both The Force Unleashed games will now be non-canon. So - no Starkiller anymore. He never existed. Bye bye.

Animation style from that show definitely reminds of the one in Clone Wars, so here we won't be seeing anything new at all :P

Another interesting fact from little information we have about this show is that Obi Wan Kenobi shall be included along with C-3PO and... Lando. Other characters... who the hell are You, people/aliens?

For more details (no point in copying them)

So... what is Your opinion about it? Disney made first step now, is it good or bad? Do You think the show will be good or expect a disaster? Or maybe just average show? Do You actually want to watch it?

I hope it proves to the more critical star wars fans that Disney is capable of carrying a franchise. I love Disney and Star Wars, but hate all the negativity given from angry Star Wars fans.

I am kinda devastated that Starkiller and The Force Unleashed are no longer canon.  I'd be waited with bated breath for the next one, and then I heard it would never happen, and that was pretty awful.

I'm looking forward to Rebels though.  If its half as good as The Clone Wars was, it'll be a fantastic series.

There will always be complaining fans just as there are bronies complaining about MLP, some people will never be satisfied, sometimes simply because they don't want to be satisfied in the first place. I personally think that this show will be decent. I am very interested in Lando's role in all those events.

It is sad, that it happened, but on the other hand worse things are no longer canon. Korriban gone. Darth Revan gone. All the Old Republic times gone actually. Starkiller was nice character, but honestly, he did not have much to offer with his personality, he just was devastating in combat IMO. But I understand why can someone be devastated about it so I'm really sorry.

Tbh I kinda expected people all raging on Disney, You guys gave me a pleasant suprise, keep it up

Well, lets hope he can bring some of the awesomeness from the clone wars movie (that had rather fun battle scenes) and hope we can avoid the "in your face " social commentary http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon_Kinberg this man has done with Elysium. As the social commentary in that movie was very, very, very in your face. Hopefully with the social issues that are no doubt going to be commented on (as the rebellion fighting against the all powerful empire) I only hope for more subtly than his previous works.

While I am somewhat saddened at the loss of StarKiller, at least this gives them an opportunity to create a more fleshed out character that has more attributes than amazing force powers/being the most op force user ever.

All in all, with the modern trend of cartoons I expect mediocrity, but hope for something that can be good enough to revitalize the star wars franchise.

Actually Starkiller was not most OP force user. In Old Republic times Nihilus outmatched him many times by wiping out entire planet by using the force only. xD

And I doubt it will come to this to be honest. Or at least try to doubt. It seems like this show is heavily based on style of Clone Wars and there was no such thing in that one. I personally hope that Disney will put Star Wars universe in good use after their very controversial decisions.

I would hope, but I do not expect it. The clone wars cartoon did carry some social commentary, but luckily it was fairly subtle. But with the writer for Elysium on board (and given his track record of very in your face obvious plots and commentary) I do carry some doubts about it.

But we do have 2 other people on board at the helm, so hopefully they can reign him in. I have hopes for this series, but as a skeptic I do not expect anything great.

I don't see exactly how that is going to nullify Starkiller as cannon but I would rather not think of cool things getting nuked from the cannon and even if that is the case it dosen't mean that the show won't be a good one. We will see where they go with this, Clone Wars was awesome so a good Star Wars series can be done so the ball is in Disney's court as to how to handle this. I am still pissed at them for the whole "expanded universe non cannon" thing but that still dosen't mean I won't give this show or the upcoming trilogy a chance.

I think I will try it due to it dives more

into the Star Wars history  a bit more

but with out the Luke and such etc

playing as the center part!  I'll be nice

to see some different cannons for once!

Starkiller was responsible for birth of rebellion in old canon. Here he is not even mentioned. And Disney already said that everything except for movies and Clone wars TV series is considered non canon. They even changed name of first sith homeworld from Korriban to Moraband, even messed around with its looks.

Just look up on wookiepedia. Almost entire articles gathered there are now non canon. From Old Republic only Darth Bane is confirmed as something that belongs to canon because of certain episode of Clone Wars.

They better not try to tone it down to make it more kiddy, Sith lore is some of the best stuff in the expanded universe and it is bad enough to make most of it non cannon but to try to water it down is a crime. I looked it up and found out it was because Lucas preferred the name Moraband which dosen't have the pizazz that Korriban does but so long as they don't butcher Sith lore too badly I can overlook it but I am still calling it Korriban damn it.

I don't think the problem was ever thinking Disney couldn't manage the franchise, look at how well they've done with Marvel. The problem goes back to Lucas refusing to ever acknowledge anything not created by him as cannon, they approved whatever they wanted but Lucas could always wave a hand and it was overwritten.

So from his point of view Starkiller was never cannon, Boba Fett never escaped the sarlaac, Han and Leia never got married and Luke never trained new jedi, none of the games or books or extended universe that wasn't tv or movie released was not cannon. Fan's hated him for this and his rewrites for a long time, funny thing was that the hate bugged him but he never seemed to understand why fans thought he was a dick. You mentioned Korriban becoming Moraband that was just because Lucas liked the name better for the Clone Wars cartoon and since it's TV and from his mouth it was cannon. I blame his fetish for taking descriptive words and barely changing them to make names: http://i.word.com/idictionary/moribund

Disney picked up where he left off, and used the fact Lucas had never admitted anything as cannon to give freedom to their writers and avoid getting caught in the tangled mess of events that was the extended universe.

This is not to say everything is lost, deeply ingrained ideas like, Darth Bane, Boba Fett surviving, ect. will most likely be continued. The extended universe is supposedly put in the hands of their staff and told if you want something you can write your own version of it. So anything or one could survive the purge but the story will probably be a bit different.

I think Rebel sounds like a fantastic start for Disney, mostly because I've always thought Unleashed's plot was rather stupid. Don't get me wrong the gameplay was great and being able to abuse the force like that was fantastic, but Starkiller was a Garysue. While Nihilus and some other force users were stronger Starkiller was super strong for no reason, that makes him OP. The way the rebellion started in that was so sloppy, I'm sure Disney can do better.

I will be watching Rebels, I've got to judge how Disney might handle it.
