Chrono Trigger

Sorry... games you can't have...

how about... Bios- oh wait, the console version's better.

I'm having a tough time with Pc ga- BALDURS GATE! YES!

Dude, if you're just here to be edgy and go like "OH LOOK AT ALL THESE GAMES YOU CAN'T HAVE" (as apparently exclusives mean EVERYTHING) or saying a game is "better" on consoles without giving any reason why instead of actually contributing anything, then please. Just stop. It just comes off as very cringeworthy to us.

Okay.

Oh, that isn't a quote button? Huh. Mobile skin is confusing.

Anyway, Nuke, I've heard mixed things towards Star Citizen, with people daring Elite: Dangerous is better, while others say Star Citizen is better. Can't really give much input myself as I've only played SC once, but I like what I'm seeing from both.

So... I've been thinking about holding off on any upgrades until Star Citizen comes out. That game is killing my PC as it is, and if anything will make me upgrade, it's gonna be that.

I think it's mostly a CPU bottleneck, at the moment. The frame rate doesn't really change whether I have the settings at min or max. It'd be great if I could get my hooves on an unlocked hex-core 14nm CPU. Something like that would have more cores, better performance per core, and lower power consumption than my aging 955BE. That aught to whoop Star Citizen right in the ass.

Chrono Trigger looks and runs absolutely wonderful in BSNES (now Higan, I suppose).

Yes, I own the original cartridge as well. It's just easier to fire up a game without having to break out the old control deck and then realize it'd look terrifying on a modern LED TV.

With the proper rig you can emulate everything from Atari-2600 to Gamecube/PS2/Wii and with the right know-how run any game ever made for Windows or Mac(or even Linux)

On topic, will any of shit work in my new build(yes, I know the floppies are outdated but DOSbox and I'm weird like that)

The multi-card reader, yes, but the floppy drives require IDE and modern motherboards do not support IDE. There are USB floppy drives, however.

The last board I owned with a floppy controller was probably my old A64 build...

I know they do(I have a couple I got cheap and sales), I was just hoping.

Mind telling what the hell connection that card reader is? That wire is the only kind of hook-up on the thing(and no ports in the back). It came out of a computer I got for  $1 from a school that was liquidating their old PCs.

Probably a USB 2.0 header? I dunno, looks like one.

How many of those does a board have? I have to hook up the front ports on the case as well.

Pretty sure Daring is right, it looks like a USB 2.0 header.

Be careful (it shouldn't hurt but still), audio connectors also use this type of pin arrangement. Look for AUDIO or something silkscreened on the board.

Usually 1 - 2 headers. USB 3.0 is still at one though.

Yeah, looking at my board there are two USB 2.0 headers.

How odd, on the M5A97 R2.0 there are three USB 2.0 headers according to the user manual. Normally I see 1 or 2.

Thanks, all.

Do I need to by thermal paste for the CPU?

If the cooler has no thermal paste pre-applied, yes. Otherwise, the stock thermal paste will do fine. Stock AMD and Intel coolers come with thermal paste pre-applied, but high-end coolers such as the Noctua NH-D14 do not.

On a side note I checked those old boards over I got from the school and they had:

A Pentium4

A Pentium Dual-Core(1.63GHz)

A Random 1.3GHz Intel I with no CPU-type listed on it.

None(not kidding, I discovered on of the smart-asses stole the CPU off on the board when they were setting the sale up)

Not complaining because I paid like $1 per machine(including mice and keyboards for all of them)

It feels like Christmas(still waiting for my other two SATA data cables and my monitor so no building yet)

I was talking to someone on Youtube, and I guess a patch was released for Evil Within that lets you turn off the borders and the frame-lock right in the options menu.

Yeah, there was a patch to do that.

On a side not, my monitor made it over the border from Canada safely and is now in Kansas according to UPS tracking.

I was looking at the box and it turns out my motherboard has two USB 2.0 slots AND two USB 3.0 slots.

Well, at least you have plenty of USB headers for stuff.

I think so, anyway.

I'm confused because the on-site diagram doesn't mark anything but the SATA connectors:

Check the motherboard manual, it should say how many USB headers are on the board.

I found it and to paraphase the list: "a shitload".

It supports like six additional ports of each type(three of each in the middle of the board, and three more of each by back ports). The thing also has like six SATA ports and a power port for the CPU if you want to OC it.

I'm kinda not regretting buying the most expensive variant of the board now.

It also came with two SATA cables and I bought three, so I should be good on wiring now.

Anyone know any tricks to Jerry-rig a full-size DVD/CD drive bay to fit something like a floppy-drive? My card-reader is that size but there's only full-sized ports on my PC. I tought of putting black-cardboard around it or something.
