GTX 970 is also a good option if you want a 3.5GB+512MB card Ud95ohi.png

What about that vram controversy, though?

Or is that over with?

It's died down. People still go like "lol 3.5GB+512MB card" from time to time but things have died down.

Were people actually complaining about 1/2 a gig of ram?

Yeah, because nVIDIA lied about the spec.

Oh my god, half a gigabyte of vram, that's so bad! Nvidia should refund everyone!

Haha, no. Lied or not, that's kind of petty.

For a intended to be a gaming PC, how much RAM would I really need? I know more RAM is better, but 128 GB sounds a little overkill.

128 RAM....nobody needs that much. 8gig of ram should do you for just gaming. That being said, if you can afford it go for 16 gig.

From what I've seen, 2GB is still good right now for most games, though, if you want to future-proof your build, than they have some good cards with 4GB. You could honestly get something like an R9 280x with 3GB, or if you're willing to spend a bit more, the 290x is a good option with 4GB

I have never dealt with AMD cards; I'm very unfamiliar with their naming scheme and features AMD cards have vs Nvidia cards.

And yes, I'm aware of the GTX 970 controversy.

I'd suggest going for an A88X motherboard instead of an A58 one. Newer chipset.

It is a good idea, but there would be compatibility issues with that board.

I might try another build, but with a different speccing approach. I did this one with the case first, but I'll try to get the internals first, then worry about the case.

Compatibility issues? How so?

It says that case doesn't have front panel USB 3.0 ports, but I could just swap out the case. The other issue "some AMD A88X chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Kaveri CPUs". Edited by HayaBROsa

Oh. Yeah, just swap out the case for one that does. As for that second issue, ask the retailer. Some motherboards allow you to flash newer BIOSes without even having a CPU installed. I believe they end with the -PRO suffix. Not 100% sure, I don't have an A88X system.

I couId do that, but I'd rather not have to bother with that, so I decided to swap out the board (still A88X as per your recommendation), the CPU for one that includes a cooler, and a different case (needed to).

Here is the updated list. Slightly more expensive, but I'm still good for it.

Minecraft has done gotten broken in the last few updates.

Forge and Optifine are barley stable, and I can't get any "core mods" for shaders to work at all(and yes, I did back-up my personal files and do a clean install of MC along with nabbed the latest Magic Launcher)

Might be a problem with Java, make I'll see about updating it.

Hmm, both are completely stable on my end, and I get around 40-50 fps with shaders, with everything maxed and render distance at 8 chunks.

What version?

I'm attempting to use 1.8 and 1.7 was pretty unstable as well.

I'm using 1.8+ Are you getting low fps?

No, just crashing(Optifine crashed just changing a setting once) and the game no starting at all with the shader mod.
