request 8-bit Dancing OC?

Bronyance

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I run a channel called Bronyance in which I create 8-bit music. If it's at all possible, I'd absolutely love a looping GIF or something of my Ponysona or OC, the guy in my avatar, dancing in a style a bit like this guy: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-goTeHXuZeEg/Tp06Rbo2SaI/AAAAAAAAakM/f5JrOJihsLA/s1600/8-bitvanillaice.gif

An example of my work for ya:

where did you get the software to make 8 bit music?

I use samples in FL Studio, but try to keep to the limitations of real NES-style music, using only the space on a chip that I would be able to in, for example, a game like Super Mario Bros.

ive seen people use way to many chanels in there 8 bit music thay should have just used 16  bit genisis insteed props for staying true

I use at most 4 channels to give music depth, like near the end of that mashup - but usually just 2.

What do you really mean by 8-bit though? I'm going to assume you're talking about working within the Nintendo NES limitations. Your color palette will be VERY limited. The console can only render 54 colors (technicalities aside). The source will take you to the color palette. [source]

Alright, so those are the colors available, only 3 colors may be used on a sprite + the "transparent color" that'll show up both inside and outside the sprite at any given time.

Just making sure...

As for size, the gif you posted has a resolution of roughly 64 by 64 pixels. I'd personally recommend considering making the dancing sprite 48 by 48 pixels as it would leave 16 pixels both in width and length for movement.

So yeah, please provide people the necessary resources to make it. It would be very helpful to give the audience the 4-color color palette that they would be using at the very least. Other guidelines will also be helpful.

Okay, thanks. The colours I'd use would probably be palette 0, #BCBCBC for the body in general, #7C7C7C for the back legs, and the cutie mark if it fits, and palette 1, #0000BC for the mane and tail's outer part and #0000FC for the inner parts, and A, #00A844 for the eyes (did I get that right?). And I was hoping a moonwalk, some jumps or something, leg kicks, bucks, I don't know, but as long as it loops after around 5 seconds at 8-12 FPS (or so), I'm fine with it.

Well, no... The thing about sprite images is that you have the sprite itself + the background that tends to be transparent if it's a GIF image. Yes, that's included as a 4th color. So for the complete body -- mane, coat, eyes, everything -- you are limited to just 3 colors.

If I can make a recommendation, if it's really important to have a color for the back legs, it may be best to make a compromise and give the eyes and cutie mark the same color as the mane and tail.
