To OC or not to OC. That is the question.

Somehow I feel that sooner or later everybody will have an OC(s). I can't draw that well let alone digitize any kind of drawing (though I am trying). It is needed in the roleplay world right? (or else how would you roleplay). Not that I like to roleplay though  :P . I am quite jealous (actually a lot) that everyone's/ponie's OCs are that amazing. Is OC compulsory now?

I would love to roleplay here after not having done it in so long, but everytime I gt the urge to try something really just makes me do a complete 180.

But I feel like that judgment is kind of harsh on my part and that's affecting nobody's enjoyment but my own. No, having an OC isn't necessary at all. People just tend to have Ponysonas because everyone else does and they seem to have lots of fun with them even if they don't roleplay with them. And you can go to the request shops here on the forums and ask someone to draw you an OC. First you'll want to get an image of one. Everyone tends to use this (http://generalzoi.deviantart.com/art/Pony-Creator-Full-Version-254295904) as a base to send into artists for a request. (You may want to give specifics as well since not everyone's desired manestyle or exact look is present in this pony creator)

That stuff is for if you want to make one. It's completely optional, but if you want to practice drawing you can use that as a base to get a feeling for what goes where and start experimenting.

Cheria (right) is a small town girl who was afflicted with a terrible sickness when she was very young. Meeting Sophie changed that however. She recovered almost instantly from her illness due to Sophie's magic and gained an undeniable talent with her own, and what does she do with this magic? She acts as a healer for her small town and helps the militia keep the hostile border safe. Seven years later, she's started a nation-wide relief organization after her adventure with Sophie and Friends, a great connection to the element of generosity.

Oh yeah, Adoptables exist don't they? Never thought about that. But Oc's can be used in fan fiction too. Really, like I said it's not mandatory but It's lots of fun.

And quite honestly you really don't just HAVE to have a drawn OC, if you have an idea that you think would make for a great OC that go head and right up his back story and describe how he/she looks and you're golden. You can always have it drawn up later. ^_^

I don't do roleplay, but I have OC's. -shrug-

if you can't draw, ask someone to draw them from you, if you have an idea of what you want them to look like.

or just buy adoptables and base your OC off that.

Asking someone to draw an OC for another sounds nice and professional but honestly, I think not drawing your own kinda takes away some originality of your own OC. Besides, not drawing one also means that it is not fully your OC. Some debate will happen on wether or not that OC is originally yours. True that its your idea but your not the one producing it. A lot of controversy might happen. It makes me sad

In the end, everyone has their own OC which is good. Although as you say, not mandatory, but you feel like you're missing out on the fandom fun.

Well, you are trying and you are learning. I can give you that.

It's not to the point where it's heresy to go without an OC, but it's very much encouraged if you do have one. The possibilities are endless as to how you can write and draw your OC, and people will get to know you by your OC if you use it well enough.

I fail to see how. If you're commissioning art of the OC and don't have a picture of the OC you drew yourself, but still had an idea od what you wanted the OC to look like, the OC would still be yours, as you'd be telling the artist precisely what the OC looks like, as you were the one who thought it all up to develop that character- more or less, you'd just technically be using a fanart piece of your own OC. Maybe not so  "Original" character if you buy someone's adoptable, on the other hand, and develop around that, but once you buy the piece of art, it becomes yours, though, after giving it a backstory and all, then maybe the 'original character' gets transferred over to the new owner. (since that's really what it's all about anyway- or should be)

I'm working on developing one at the moment, but while I get it right I decided just to put a big cloak over it until I'm ready to share, thus my avatar. I'm terrible with color pairing, but I think I might have come across something that works.

I'm not in a big rush, but I am slightly intrigued with rp right now.

An OC is not compulsory, but it is a great deal of fun.

Some people just make themselves into an OC and call it a "Ponysona." what you would look like as a pony.

I have two OC's, the newest is in my sig below. I'm partial to unicorns, and I had no end of fun coming up with bizarre spells to give him.

If you do make an OC list him/her in the character database. The database is also a good read, you can get a lot of ideas there.

You don't need an OC to be a brony, and anyone who says otherwise is probably spouting some nonsense rubbish.

I've gone without an OC for the 2 or so years that I've been part of this fandom.

Just like you I don't usually like to role-play, but I've never really felt the need to make one either.

It's not like you're going to need an OC if you don't want one.

But when it all comes down to it, it's just personal preference and plus!! Making them sure is a lot of fun!
