Cherry Sparklepuff 9 March 30, 2012 Share March 30, 2012 the early generations of ponies? I'm not into the new ones so much.
Jokuc 8,174 March 30, 2012 Share March 30, 2012 I just like the 4th gen myself, but I'm sure I've seen atleast two here who likes the earlier generations too.
Swordfishtrombone 384 March 30, 2012 Share March 30, 2012 Eh, its not really based on those. Theres a few though. I'd guess theres better forums on the internet for that kind of stuff. But hey man, the fields wide open here, talk of what you want in the appropriate sections.
Arylett Charnoa 4,919 March 30, 2012 Share March 30, 2012 Though this forum is made for all sorts of fans of My Little Pony, it mostly caters to G4 fans. As such, most of the fans attracted to it, including myself, were introduced to MLP in the fourth generation. Though you can feel free to talk about previous generations, there aren't going to be as many people with interest in it as say, G4. 1 Aether Velvet is the name of the OC in my avatar. Drawn by me. Magnus 69 March 30, 2012 Share March 30, 2012 I grew up when g1 was airing, and it was boring, really boring. Cool villains though if I remember correctly. Doesnt matter what generation of pony you prefer as you long as you enjoy it! On a sidenote, my sister liked it, so we used to have eternia(my he-man toys)declare war on ponyville with regular intervals Now that I think of it, I think my sister usually had'(she had some he-man figures aswell) the he-man baddies on her team, meaning skeletor and his crew were...bronies
Page.Turner 940 March 30, 2012 Share March 30, 2012 (edited) I grew up with the first, second, and third generations. I was born in 1990 but it didn't stop my mother from popping in various MLP tapes in the VCR! CX Though I will admit, generation 1 will forever be better than generation 3. :U I strongly dislike generation 3. G4 has to be my favourite, though. Songs, adorable art, large fanbase I can relate and befriend, and many other positive aspects! Edited March 30, 2012 by SkySong ...
Street Comedy 327 March 30, 2012 Share March 30, 2012 I watched Gen. 4 only. I've SEEN the opening songs of the previous generations, and I'm not surprised why no one likes them.
Halfblood 364 March 30, 2012 Share March 30, 2012 (edited) skeletor and his crew were...bronies Skeletor, founding brony! Anyways, I've tried getting into the earlier generations, but I couldn't get past the dated animation and the personalities of the characters. Though, some characters like Knight Shade (G1 or G2, I don't know which) do have interesting backgrounds and origins that I certainly can dig. Other than that though, I prefer G4, but like everyone else has been saying, you're free to enjoy all the gens here! Edited March 30, 2012 by Halfbreed 1 If you wanna see, go on and tear it outta me! Inky Milk 78 March 30, 2012 Share March 30, 2012 I'm not here because of the earlier generations, but I only started watching G4 because I loved G1 one so much (so...I guess that means I am here because of them?). I still do adore G1 even if I'm not a huge fan of G3, so you got one fellow lover of the earlier ponies at your side who won't be bashing it
Queen Cassie 3,057 March 30, 2012 Share March 30, 2012 I watched Gen. 4 only. I've SEEN the opening songs of the previous generations, and I'm not surprised why no one likes them. You say that as if the opening song to FIM is all that much better. Consider, for example, if the intro were all you ever saw of the show. Would you think much of it from that intro? Honestly, comparing the intro of FIM to the intro of the previous generations, there's not that much difference. Now, I like the intro to FIM, but I had to learn to like it, as I assume most pony fans did. I like it because I like the show it's for. But would I like it if it had been all I had seen of the show? The answer is most certainly no. Incidentally I'm not trying to defend the previous generations here. I consider them unwatchable. I just felt I had to point out that the intro to FIM isn't as different as you might think. Used to be known on here as Kyronea. Want to read psychological analyses of the Mane Six? Start here. All the other ones SHOW you that this is for little girls, and FiM's has this "it's for everyone" kind of thing.

Remove yourself from the context of the quality of the show and just consider the intro itself, and frankly the intro smacks of the same sort of silliness that all other MLP intros do. It's not that much better and it only becomes tolerable/likable as a result of the show it's associated with. When I first started watching the show, I had to skip past the intro because it made me want to rip my ears off. It took a long time for me to learn to like it and appreciate it. And in appreciating it I can tell you that it's not really any different from any previous MLP intro. It just feels better because you like the show that's associated with it.
