Steel Accord 6,660 November 5, 2014 Share November 5, 2014 Maybe so. But there's nothing saying Derpy is a genius either. There's nothing either way. However, she has shown dumbness for her screen time in the Last Roundup. As for Pinkie being down to earth, I should be saying she doesn't over think things Right but again, that's how you know you have a character. They exist in some capacity even when they are not being depicted. For instance, look at goombas. They have character traits as low level minions, but goomba A doesn't effect anything differently than goomba B whether either or shows up on screen. BUT! We can assume that each individual goomba actually does have a personality as they are not established to have a hive mind. And lo and behold Nintendo makes two of them party members in the Paper Mario games and each has a distinct personality. You could depict Slenderman mowing the lawn as a joke. But why is that a joke? Why is depicting this nebulously created character doing mundane things any less out of character than having him stalking people? Because characters can, and indeed do, arise spontaneously, but still have internal consistency. Derpy is such an example. It's irony With Derpy, I never note her presence. I can see her obviously, but I can see plenty of other side characters and they have no presence. The final product wasn't anything deep or complex but it had a defined personality and wasn't out of place with the setting's usual zany characters. So depicting Derpy as anything other than a klutzy, well meaning, muffin loving, mail delivering, mother of Dinky is not technically breaking canon no, but it's definitely that writer's interpretation of the character. 1 My ponysona: http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/steel-accord-r1970 My AMA thread: http://mlpforums.com/topic/76698-as-steel-me-andor-oc/

Well that's just bad exposure, not your fault but certainly not hers. You should read shorter comics that feature her, as per your astute observation, brevity is the soul of wit and where the character truly shines. To answer your question though, Derpy was seen in the same scene with the Doctor a couple of times and as per the rule of the other source material, the Doctor needs a companion. So Derpy was sometimes depicted as being the Doctor's companion and it just stuck. I don't know any where she's a Timelord though, usually she's just a companion of the Doctor and that's it. AnonBrony 1,468 November 5, 2014 Share November 5, 2014 (edited) You guys have not been around since the beginning of the fandom. I'll tell you all really why she is so special. She was essentially our mascot back in the day. She was practically the first background pony that got fanon. And compared to the crowds of Lyras, Berrys, and Golden Harvests, she was different. Mainly cuz of the eye thing but still she was different from all the others. And because of that, we spotted her out and she continued to have those eyes. In a way she was our creation. For if we didn't notice her she wouldn't be like how she is today. So eventually she was like a mascot for the fandom; a pony that represented us. Even though nowadays she may not seem all that special cuz of 100 of other background pones, but back then she was one of a kind and something the fandom could all love mutually. She also became a way the show creators could acknowledge us and give us a nice wink at. That is why many were up in arms during that period in 2012. Cuz our pony, our creation, our mascot, the pony that the storyboard artists and the writers liked putting in to acknowledge us, was changed. The pony that the whole fandom loved for who she was, was censored. And even if she technically wasn't our pony or our creation, it did feel that way, and she was still our mascot. And you know... she still sorta is. Edited November 5, 2014 by AnonBrony
