gaming I don't get how someone can get away with selling remakes or why people buy it

I saw "Zelda Wind Waker" WiiU version in the store, and it costed just like a new game. I bet you can get this game cheap if you buy the Gamecube version now from e-bay or something.

But the fact that an old game can cost something like a new game on the WiiU just kinda baffles me..

I mean its basically the same game years ago.

But its still weird how people love the idea of buying a polished game, that they played years ago, instead of another game that's new. Like usually the original scores better due to the charm of it being like that years ago. Which they can go back too if they wanna try the game again :D.

It really depends on how they remake. There are 5 types of remakes I see

1) The remake that changes so much of the original game that it's pretty much a classifies as a reboot(Example - Starfox 64, it was considered a remake of the original game, but there was so much changes to it that it pretty much re-establishes itself as the official canon)

2) The remake that is mostly the same as the original, but makes enough changes that it feels like a new game regardless(Examples include the Resident Evil REmake, the Megaman/X PSP games, FireRed/LeafGreen/HeartGold/SoulSilver/OmegaRuby/AlphaSapphire, Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes, etc)

3) The remake where the only noticeable change is a graphic update(personally that just makes them remasters instead), something that Nintendo is somewhat notorious for(unlike the Pokemon remakes, some of the other "remakes", notably Starfox 643D and Ocarina of Time 3D are more or less overpriced remasters). Sometimes they are justified by releasing the remasters as collections(MGS HD, Master Chief Collection, the SNES release of Super Mario All-Stars, etc) or they try to make improvements on the game(Halo Anniversary or Windwaker HD), but sometimes they feel like overpriced re-releases(SF643D, OoT 3D, and for some WWHD and Last of Us Remastered)

4) The new Sports game each year that feels like a mere roster update(mainly if it's EA behind the game)

5) And lastly there's the "Super Ultra ______ Turbo Game of the Year Arcade Edition HD" you see a lot, usually regurgitated by Capcom

Personally I have no issues with remakes as long as it's under the first two circumstances(or sometimes the 3rd)

I have no issues with remakes especially ones that are better than the original version, such as "Resident Evil 4 Ultimate HD Edition" on Steam/PC (which is agreed to be the best version). A lot of people love remakes of their favorite games and there's nothing wrong with that especially when it was a weak year for games (like this year honestly). Also when the Wii U version of Wind Waker came out, the Gamecube version was around the same price.

It depends on what type of game it is imo, such as if it is a remake of an older game that I once had on another platform, I will buy it just to have it on my main platform being PC. Or if it is a remake that can have superior visuals such as lets say the the new Halo MC collection(I don't own an Xbox one so I can't get it), but if that was on PC I would buy it in a heartbeat despite playing those countless times for too many hours for me to recall. As for ones like sports games, I'll pick up the newer versions every 2-3 versions as many count them as remakes just with a higher number lol

I got the Halo MC Collection and I am not disappointed, i haven't touched my 360 at all since getting the Xbox one. Depending on how they remastered Wind Waker, another reason for getting it on the WiiU is less work (if any) if you want to play it on your GameCube (if you still have it). Playing all Halo's on one console without switching CD's helps a lot on time (I'm saying it like it takes forever to switch from one game to another). But as I was saying another reason for you to get this new version of it is you'll still be playing on your WiiU.

Not everyone has a Gamecube, N64, PS2, etc. This is just a way for people who didn't grow up with the original to get a chance to play the older games.

Unfortunately, some ports and remakes are poorly done, and give a terrible first impression to new players. I'm still waiting on a good Silent Hill 2 port.

Although this probably could've been avoided if companies made their systems backwards compatible.

As others have said a lot of it has to do with platform convenience if it's from an older game and sometimes people will buy it again if there are different features.

Some remakes offer more features than higher resolution graphics such as; game modes, items, costumes, etc.

Then there is the lack of backwards compatibility on newer generation consoles, so people will sell or throw out the ones that the original game could have been played on, or they stop working-which depends on how much time has passed since the original game and the console came out.

There are some games that people buy again because of both nostalgia and the fact that they really enjoyed playing those games in the first place and they might not be able to play the originals now for whatever reason.

In cases like The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, the original came out over a decade ago-and that was at least two console generations ago, so it seems reasonable that not as many people still have a Nintendo Gamecube from back then, if they even had one to begin with-not to mention newer, younger fans who may not have been able to experience the game yet, due to that limitation.

And while, yes-there are remakes that are blatantly lazy cash-grabs, but there are others that have actual effort put into them.

Mnnope. It goes for $40-$50 here, because it's a classic. Same with Super Smash Bros Melee and Pikmen.

People buy remakes because, usually, they're better. Wind Waker looks AMAZING in HD and WWHD tweaks the game in several ways for the better. Considering the game is $50, that's $10 for all the improvements. Totally worth it.

Or how about the remake of Metal Gear Solid? Or the remake of Kirby's Adventure as Nightmare in Dreamland? There are tons of reasons to get a remake of an old game.

Depends on the remake... If it's like The Wind Waker HD or other HD "Remakes" (remasters) or Ocarina of Time 3D/Majora's Mask 3D, then yeah, I can't understand either. However, then there are remakes like Pokemon or Kingdom Hearts RE: Chain of Memories. These remakes are not only graphically updated, but they are rebuilt from the ground up and reimagined. I can't really say much for RE:CoM because I never liked that game, remake or not, but Pokemon remakes are well worth my time and money! "HD Remakes" and OOT3D/MM3D remakes? Not so much.

Nevertheless, the 'remakes' that are obviously given much less loving and care can still have value in providing the experience of the games to younger/newer fans in a format that won't feel so dated to them compared to the newer games they're used to playing. Although, really, these 'remakes' should be automatically reduced in price no matter what, I agree.

I still haven't played many games from the PS1 and PS2 era so games being remade, whether it's just a remaster or a full remake, makes them easier to obtain.

Not to mention when they're given trophy/achievement support so I can add to my Gamerscore.

They get away with it because people will buy it.

Besides, who would want a white layout either way :). Reminds me too much of Apple.
