Are Twilight and Pinkie even friends?

I mean really, think about it. Virtually every time they interact, Twilight just treats Pinkie as someone who stops by from time to time, and that she has to deal with despite never wanting to. They never do things together, not like friends anyway. They don't really do anything that friends do. Has Pinkie ever taught Twilight something about friendship? Have they ever shared a single friendly moment together? Heck, even when they're specifically talking about friendship, the interactions are generally strained and are hardly indicative of a good friendship (Griffon the Brush Off, A Friend in Deed, Pinkie Pride). If they didn't constantly say what good friends they are, I'd honestly have no idea that they're supposed to be close. I'm not even asking for really best friend stuff, but just anything that shows that Twilight thinks of Pinkie as an actual friend. I'm aware that Twilight certainly knows Pinkie is a kind, well-intentioned, and outgoing pony, but I don't recall ever once seeing them connect on a personal level like... well, actual friends.

Yes, in Swarm of the Century. Unfortunately, this remains the only time the mane five have ever learned something from Pinkie. I think that Pinkie really needs another episode in which she saves the day/comes up with a solution so that the mane five can be reminded of why they tolerate her antics and still consider her a friend. Because otherwise, they really don't have any reason to tolerate it, especially in episodes like Filli Vanilli where it's used in a negative way.

I remembered that, but wasn't sure if it should be included. It was pretty clear that while they did learn something, Pinkie didn't really know anything about it...

What about "Feeling Pinkie Keen"

What about Feeling Pinkie Keen?

there was Feeling Pinkie Keen

What about Feeling Pinkie Keen?

Pinkie is the wild card of the group. She dosen't seem to be particularly close to anyone. She is everyone's friend or no one's friend, thanks to her bipolar personality.

But that's not true, she's had very personal interactions with Dash, Fluttershy, even quite a few minor characters. But when it comes to Twilight...

Anyone remember lesson Zero? Near the end, when they all think Twilight's going to get sent away, that little moment where Pinkie walks over and sorta pushes her head against Twilight's in a sort of comforting gesture? That's probably my favorite moment between the two in the entire show, and they didn't even say a word to each other in that little scene.

If you just showed me that little moment, I could easily believe Twilight and Pinkie are friends. I will agree though, they do need some more time together. Even if it's just some more little moments like that one.

This is true. I really don't think any of the mane five would consider her a *best* friend.

Yeah, that was quite adorable. I love how ponies show affection.

well they are friends, otherwise the EoH wouldn't work but we see very little interaction between them other than Twi being serious and studying while Pinkie is being loud and a little annoying.

I kinda want an episode where Pinkie tries to be like Twi and gets some books and falls in love with fantasy books (except in Equestria would that count as history?) anyway... Twi recently losing all her books is desperate for books and Pinkie is overcome with a little bit of greed and has to struggle with herself whether to keep her books or give them to Twi.

I think it was at the very beginning of season 1, but their friendship level has gone down as the seasons went on. Yes, they share laughs sometimes, but their friendship level? That would be debatable.

I guess a more apt thread title would be "Does Twillight even like Pinkie?"

Hmm, I had totally forgotten, but I actually had an idea years ago for an episode where Twilight gets sick, and Pinkie has to care for her.

Wait, does Luna Eclipsed count? I'm still not really sure what the idea behind that episode's lesson was.
