Dulset Tarn 441 February 23, 2015 Share February 23, 2015 I would suppose it's a matter of perspective, preference, and opinion. In any case, I wasn't totally impressed by Discord as a villain, and while his 'reformation' during S3 was rushed thanks to time constraints, I thought he was handled competently through S4. We;ll just have to agree to disagree on the princesses. Or we could, you know, actually discuss it here on the discussion board. Would be nice, for once. Prince Firemane 309 February 23, 2015 Share February 23, 2015 I don't know, as much as we haven't seen Discord's full scope of good, as his true change of heart happened in the most recent episode, I don't think we ever saw his full scope of evil as well. We saw him as goofy and mischevious, but not really outright evil. I believe that's because he was only active for a short time as opposed to when Celestia and Luna originally dealt with him. We've seen that he's got quite the sadistic streak as he was the only villain to actually break the Mane Six's friendship by breaking their minds so completely that even Twilight was willing to give up on it. That's pretty evil. Not to mention that wen Celestia was briefing them at the beginning of The Return of Harmony, she showed them a window depicting Discord playing puppeteer to miserable ponies by dangling them over a pit of flames. Not to mention that as she was speaking, the sounds of ponies screaming in agony could be heard in the background. That shows a capability for pretty horrific evil that was never shown on the show proper, for obvious reasons. Ever since Discord's change of heart, I've been wondering how that would play out with him being the spirit of chaos and all. But at the same time, by definition there are no rules that say that he has to spread chaos and disorder on a grand scale, or at all for that matter. Sure, he very easily could, but there's no reason why he must. I think he'll continue to mess with the Mane Six, but playfully instead out of apathy and disdain. After all, when he was originally "reformed", Discord made no attempt to hide the fact that he was only playing along out of self-preservation. Concordantly, the Mane Six; sans Fluttershy, made no attempt to hide the fact that they didn't like him, nor did they care to. But now they all seem to legitimately like each other. But as to whether or not I like him better as a villain... I don't know. I like him as both good and evil.
sweetolebob18 728 February 23, 2015 Share February 23, 2015 The Return of Harmony Discord was, by far, the best major villain because he was the only one w a 3 digit IQ & a plan that made some sense (considering that his plan was to show how superior he was to Twilight more than just conquering the place (a given in his mind)). He only failed by overconfidence -he did not expect Twilight to be able to fix the Elements of Harmony. I swear, every appearance since then he's gotten lamer. Dawning Demon 952 February 23, 2015 Share February 23, 2015 I think Discord's awesome either way but his evil side can sometimes out do his good side.
Arctofire 227 February 23, 2015 Share February 23, 2015 (edited) Discord, here's a tricky topic, and one I am willing to discuss. I think, that like Twilicorn, Discord's reformation on a conceptional level was not the best move. However, with both of these decisions, they have executed them well enough for them to get a solid thumbs up from me. Discord's reformation I feel was the most carefully put together, fun, and realistic of all 3 redemption arcs in the show. Discord's reformation certainly allows him to have more screen time which is always a good thing, but the original point of Discord I feel was that he was a compassionless, insane, tyrant who had no feelings for human life, and instead just regarded ponies as toys. Now that he's more of a character of his own instead of a freaky force of nature, it deprives from the original concept that Faust and Larson put together. However I do think that they made this choice because the staff, like us, really loved Discord, and what better way to give him more screen time then to give him a long reformation arc in S4. Nowadays, I'm really happy the choice was made , because of all those great moments and episodes we've had with him. He's also very likable, and I think can easily work as a good guy, maybe even having as much screen time as the CMC. PoisonClaw 8,172 February 23, 2015 Share February 23, 2015 Oh, definitely. When Discord was a villain, he was all over the place and was hilariously terrifying (if that's even possible). Reformed though...he's a bit too restrained if that makes any sense. It feels like he's less of a character now and more of a go-ahead for the writers and animators to throw in even more pop-culture references and just be wacky and zany. Granted, his inclusion in Twilight's Kingdom was well done but Three's a Crowd...not so much. His "Glass of Water" song gave me a headache. 1 MLPForums "Self-Proclaimed" Kamen Rider NutNow, count up your sins!I do Traditional commissions, by the way! See them HERE! Conred 274 February 23, 2015 Share February 23, 2015 I doubt he will become antagonist again. Not after that Tirek episode. At one point he will probably use his powers for the first time to help the ponies out of his free will. Maybe save Fluttershy or something. With every season he will become the tamed good guy like Vegeta was in Dragon Ball Z
silvadel 1,393 February 23, 2015 Share February 23, 2015 Who ever said he was ever truly reformed. He has already shown that he will even sacrifice Fluttershy at the drop of a hat with the Tirek episode. Any thought that he a tamed draconequus is premature. Silvadel, the Pegasus of Insight. He has already shown that he will even sacrifice Fluttershy at the drop of a hat with the Tirek episode. Any thought that he a tamed draconequus is premature. Tamed and reformed are can be rather different. After he betrayed Fluttershy and the others, he was shown to be wracked with guilt and acted surprised when Twilight still considered him a friend. The medallion he gave her even became the final key they used to unlock the Rainbow Power and defeat Tirek. His reformation is all but solid at this point. As for tamed... well, I think he'll still be messing with them as he was before, but more out of a playfulness than before.
MysticShine 529 February 24, 2015 Share February 24, 2015 Discord was a really good villain, and I think his overall motives could have been expanded upon. I mean come on, he is the embodiment of Chaos for God's sake! If anything he should have been the driving force behind every main conflict in the show. Castle Bleck 19,401 February 24, 2015 Share February 24, 2015 Him being a villain was the best way to introduce him, whereas him being an antihero is the best way to keep him around, IMO. 1 By @Emerald Heart.↑
ArcheoPony 76 February 27, 2015 Share February 27, 2015 I rather prefer the idea of keeping him "reformed" in that it allows for interesting character development and dynamics. But I'm not happy with how he has been handled though, his character was kind of butchered in the finale. And as someone mentioned above, he is nothing more than a bag of pop culture gags. It's sad.
