@Swinton: You may start by making your character fall asleep and enter a dream. Other ponies will enter dreams the same way, probably meet up, and Luna comes to give them a message. Just because the ponies are in the same dream doesn't mean the dreams are the same, if that makes sense. Like, one pony could be dreaming about a chocolate world while the other is in a field of flowers, but all the ponies appear to the others.

And Flash may certainly stay in the dungeon.

After reading the plot, I think that my character could be your cousin who moved to far northern Equestria, where the permanent snow had melted in the increased heat, to escape worse conditions in the south. My character could go to Ponyville after not hearing from Rain for some time, to find the group, and explain doubts of whether their mission is possible.
