Hello everyone! Now i want to discuss something i feel is defended way to much. As this video states, Nintendo, who we all loved is taking action against youtubers who are actually helping them with ad revenue! Really Nintendo? Really? Your going to  do this now? Must be so nice to make enemies, huh?  :twi:

- Seems really silly for Joe to make this video as he already knew about Nintendo's Youtube Policies when he tried to upload a MK8 playthrough and the exact same thing happened

- As for my feelings about LP monetization in general, I'm one of those guys who consider gaming as a hobby and never really liked the monetization of Playthroughs/LPs(I don't buy the whole free advertising thing. To me if it was free advertising no money would be involved), and things like this show whether people do LPs and play games either because they truly enjoy it as a hobby or if they're just in it for the money(aka, moneywhores like DSP and PewDiePie). Reviews and coverage are a lot more different and I'd understand the rage a lot more if they went for things like that

-...THAT SAID, in the end of the day, I think Nintendo really just needs to stop with all of this nonsense/reform their internet policies as they're the really the only notable publishers doing this. In the end of the day this whole ad revenue thing benefits no one and is really just hurting them a lot more in a time where they really don't need it

Seems like Nintendo is pulling a SEGA now, almost on the same level with that bullshit SEGA pulled with Shining Force 3.

I have a somewhat love-hate relationship with Nintendo. I love the games but I despise the company and its practices.

Get real, Nintendo. Come on, man!

I have no idea what Nintendo is thinking. It seems that they are trying to dig the biggest grave they possibly can.

Lets Play videos give games publicity, when popular youtubers play it and give good feedback, it inspires others to buy the game for themselves. I think it's incredibly selfish and stupid that they are trying to make money off of Let's Plays. It just makes Lets Players not want to play their games at all, unless they are completely devoted to Nintendo Games and nothing else.

Showing a game through LP's is the best way to help them advertise, but it seems they got a stick up they're arse and can't think straight.

Exactly.

But not according to Nintendo.

Nintendo crossed the line for the last time. Now they're going to lose their own fans simply because they won't allow them to upload a gameplay footage of their own from a Nintendo game.

It's not even most people's fault at Nintendo, most of it goes back to the old CEOs and other higher ups in Japan. Hell, they even have had relations with the Yakuza so the older generations wont change their ways

The Yakuza have their claws in most big businesses in Japan.

Back when the SNES launched, Nintendo had have their drivers drive them out of the factories by night in order to be less of an obvious target by the Yakuza.

I don't really understand the people who absolutely despise YouTube content. I mean, the website is starting to really drive up sales of games with LP's, reviews, etc. Companies should really start taking advantage of this opportunity more rather than biting themselves in the ass with removing content. It may slow down sales, and lose fans.

Anyone else find the arrogance in this video painful to listen to? I respect Joe for at least challenging Nintendo's bs policy and spreading awareness how bs it really is(right now people know of it but are just going with it).

Well, this is very greedy of them to do this. They're not allowing anyone to upload any content Nintendo doesn't approve of just to make more ad revenue of it.

Also, this could be bad for the future, as other publishers and developers see this, they're going to want to do the same thing. All other Let's Players will be affected.

Nintendo has some of the most greediest business practices out their.

Electronic Arts are greedy as well, yet they don't steal users' videos playing their games. At least they're smart enough about this.

Moves like this is why so many people complain about Smash 4 not having an actual Story mode, and Nintendo actually said the reason being people putting the Brawl FMVs on YT. Epic Fail Nintendo.

People tend to spoils the story.

Going to take Nintendo side.

Here is something I had just looking up on something research. http://metro.co.uk/2015/02/08/in-defence-of-nintendos-creators-program-readers-feature-5053017/  and youtube to got a policy on use of videogame footage. Let Plays do infringe on copyright since they're just playing game fro start to finish for long periods of time.

Nintendo is trying to protect their copyright, they're giving youtubers permission to is use their contents with Creator program and sharing the profit to the creator and yet they still complain because they're not going to much off ad revenue.

Microsoft and Ubisoft allow youtube to use video game footage if they follow their conditions. People who don't have permission find ways to avoid copyrights, by reviewing limited gameplay footage and use them for educational purposes.

You're kidding right? Please, please tell me you're kidding.

People don't need to watch of they don't want spoilers.

Let's Plays give exposure. This brings in MORE money to the company who's game it is. By nor allowing this Nintendo is screwing themselves AND their customers. Plus any potential customers who would find out about the game, but don't.

You missed the entire point of the video in the OP, or didn't watch it.

How are Let's Play giving money to the company? The profit is going to the creator of the let's play NOT the company.  I did mention the Nintendo creator Program.

Really? Someone sees a game being played. Wants to buy that game. That's advertising for the company. Makes them money.

Most don't even monetize their Let's Play videos. I sure don't. Completely free advertising which makes the company money.

Are you just arguing for the sake of arguing, or are you that ignorant?

Its really not hurting the company at all, they're ignorance is really astounding.  :okiedokielokie:

I know EA are greedy as well. It's good that they want to promote their content and allow users to upload their content without filing for copyright claims. Unfortunately i've seen people signing up to this Nintendo programme where you can only upload content which they approve of and even defending this decision. I have a bad feeling that other publishers and developers will follow suite if this succeeds, as they're going to want to make money of this as well.

And then they'll be faced with numerous lawsuits from other users and when they refuse to upload videos on YouTube and move elsewhere like Twitch or UStream, that's where YouTube will begin to lose popularity.

I wouldn't want that to happen but if it gets to the worst of the worst, i can see a lot of people moving over to Twitch and broadcasting their gameplay over their. It's already a big feature for PS4. You just need to press the Share button to upload your gameplay to Twitch. It's also much easier than YouTube, as you need to buy capture cards for that.

  • 2 weeks later...

It obvious that Angry Joe is just attempting to gain views, his Mario Party 10 video wouldn't be taken down if he haven't monetised it.

So you y'all don't think that they're harming the company, tell that to that developers and the company. There's more to a supporting a company than just showing yourself playing a game.  Y'all might to read this  https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/138161?hl=en

What can I monetize?

Video game content may be monetized depending on the commercial use rights granted to you by licenses of video game publishers. Some video game publishers allow you to use all video game content for commercial use and state that in their license agreements. Likewise, videos showing software user interface may be monetized only if you have a contract with the publisher or you have paid a licensing fee.

What can't I monetize?

Without the appropriate license from the publisher, use of video game or software user interface must be minimal. Video game content may be monetized if the associated step-by-step commentary is strictly tied to the live action being shown and provides instructional or educational value.

Videos simply showing a user playing a video game or the use of software for extended periods of time may not be accepted for monetization.

Some Youtubers have permission or allow to from the company to use videogame content if they follow their conditions such using they let's play for promotional purposing .
