Did Discord trick Celestia during Twilight's Kingdom?

Wait a minute, you mean that they are possessed by the tree as a Hive Mind? Sound's scary. But they act independent of each other so, wait a minute, are those rainbows in those eyes transmissions from the tree? What if the tree decides when, it can possess anyone. THE TREE OF HARMONY IS BORG!!!

Yup. And it's continuing into the new season. Instead of rainbow eyes, they've got 'pager butts' to tell them when the Tree/Table/Spirit of Magic/Whatever has a task for them to do.

They must destroy it then, it's controlling their lives? I dunno. Sounds wierd to me.

The only victim in graffiti is the architect. Graffiti is not a crime.

Interesting theory, but I do agree with most other posters on this topic.  I don't think that the plot is that complicated.  It is, after all, also for kids.  I don't think that they would have made a plot line that entirely complicated.  Definitely an interesting theory, though! :)

These days, the world has a tendency of taking itself much too seriously.

It is my intention to not follow suit.

No, he was originally going to capture Tirek as planned-only to be played the same way Discord had manipulated others in the past to work with him (in a twist of dramatic irony), so he could have friendship AND still do whatever he wanted without the consequence of losing said friendship.

He also flat out says that he didn't see the betrayal coming and occasionally showed guilt for his actions-as he was devastated when he realized that he lost everything due to his selfishness.

Besides, it would actually make the Princesses look just as bad as him if they risked countless innocent lives on such a gambit rather than straight up sending Tirek back to Tartarus before he could hurt anyone and gain more power just for the sake of 'teaching Twilight a lesson'-especially, when it's made clear that he hates all equines with a passion and has no qualms about killing them given the library scene.

There was also no way of knowing that Tirek's amulet would turn out to be a key.
