World of Final Fantasy looks pretty interesting. It could go very, very wrong but the graphics remind me of 3D Dot Game Heroes.

To be honest, I'm more enthusiastic about World of Final Fantasy rather than FFVII's remake  :sunny:

I got Final Fantasy Type-0 and played it for a couple hours. Not sure what to think yet. Feels like it could be great but it could also end up with "too many characters" syndrome. I guess it could go a long ways with customized playstyle though.

I will reserve judgment until I play further. I can say I like the darker, more realistic tone this game has compared to other FF titles though.

Nobuo Uematsu is overrated shit. His music is uninteresting and the only game he did a good job in was FFIX.

You don't go there man, you just don't :P

Wow that remake trailer looks amazing...

In honour, me and my bro are doing a playthrough together of FFVII. I remember we got to the Northern Cave, did all that, and failed on Safer Sephiroth. This time we will finish it xD. We're just at the Temple of the Ancients right now... so many doors to go through...

I play loads of Rocket League and GRID 2 on PC if you want to join me at some time. Account is linked in the pic above.

If you want to play Halo: Reach, Forza 6 or GTAV  with me on Xbox One, hit me up with a friend request at 'Yeloooh'

Now that the long-awaited remake (or retelling) of FFVII is actually happening, I'm honestly a little worried.  For me, it needs to retain the feel of the original game.  And if game play is changed too completely, it won't be the remake I've been waiting for.  My interest in Final Fantasy has been slowly waning since around VIII; an FFVII remake I don't want to play would probably snuff it out altogether.

But, then again, maybe it will be awesome. xD  I don't know.  I'd like it to be.

I do! I've always thought it strange that he was so popular even before I got to the internet.

I don't know why it's so hard for people to accept that not everyone thinks Uematsu is a god of music. He's actually part of the reason I feel RPG and video game music is generally as shitty and generic as it is...because everyone wants to follow his example.

I don't think Uematsu is a "god of music," but I don't think he's shit, either.  Your pointing to his popularity and using the word "overrated" makes it sound as though you dislike him on principle; he's too widely known and celebrated to like.  You're fonder of the later FF games...  Have you played the earlier titles that Uematsu composed for?  How much of his music have you listened to in-game?  Sometimes one's appreciation for a particular track in a video game comes, in part, from the gaming experience they were having when they first heard the music.  Like when you first wake up on The Veldt in FFVI and hear the drumbeat for the "Wild West" tune.  After all, video game music is composed in such a way that it, ideally, fits what's going on in the game.  Helps create an atmosphere.  My favorite game soundtrack ever is from Mother 2 (Earthbound).  I don't know what the hell I'd have thought had I not been playing the game when first I heard those wacky, eclectic tunes. xD

No. I don't dislike him because of his popularity. I don't get his popularity because I have never liked his music for the most part.

And of course I've played the other games he's made the music for. That's the only reason I know why he exists and exactly why I don't care for his music. From Blue Dragon to Final Fantasy and Lost Odyssey his music has always been really bland and forgettable to me. Never enhancing the situation and at times it's like there's not even music. He has a few tracks that stand out but generally speaking it mixes with all the other generic RPG music I've ever heard.

I'm not some delusional hipster who doesn't like something purely because it's popular. I'd go so far as to say that if music has to rely on context to be good then it's worthless as music.

Call me crazy, I enjoyed every one of them, minus 11 and 14.

Fourteen especially pissed me off when they shitcanned it, to make a realm reborn. I never got my damn 60 bucks back.

  • 3 months later...

My favorites are V, VII, and IX. But honestly, each game is good in its own way. IV and VI are really good too, but the three I mentioned are my favorites.

And FFVII remake has been announced! I can't wait for that, as well as the third Dissidia game for PS4. They confirmed Bartz (who is my main for both games), so I can't wait to play as him again. X3
