Planet of the Ponies? - a theory

 Do you suppose that the World of Equestria is in fact, the remains of what used to be our own planet Earth? And the MLP timeline is our post-apocylysptic distant future? Where humans have died out, and evolved talking ponies are the main-mane sentient lifeforms. Well, one of them.

 

 I view My Little Pony to be like Planet of The Apes, but with equines.

No. It's another universe.

 

If humans were turned into ponies it may fuel the fire for more terrible misanthropic stories about humans becoming ponies.

I suppose it's possible.  The more usual explanation is a parallel universe.  EQ Girls + My Little Ponies Pony Tails confirm this -if you accept either.

 

If it is the far distant future, you have the problem of "What happened to human artifacts?"  Aluminum, glass & plastic, radioactive waste & other things will last geological eras, not to mention the continents being vastly different.

I think it is most probably another dimension running in parallel with the one we live in. At least that is what Equestria Girls suggests and that stuff is fully canon.

It could also be another planet in a far off galaxy.
